Mariah is to music, what Serena is to tennis. Hear me out. They both started with nothing, became world famous in their teens. Both hold records and achievements others can only dream of. For them the standards are set way higher then the rest. They are expected to be the best in everything they do. When they fall, the world takes a gasp and the haters are ready like hungry Hyenas. I love them both so much. Thank you for the time you put into these reactions. Thank you so much.

The song at the beginning is called Angels (The Prelude) from her 2010 album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. Her speaking voice is quite deep too. That's why she does not consider herself a soprano. The only performance you're missing a d dying too see what you say is her 2006 Grammy performance of We Belong together and Fly like a bird. You will see mistakes there but then she soars

So to your point about the EQ sound engineering, Mariah is famous for noting how temperamental her voice is. Mariah has stated before that live singing is unpredictable because of the various oil-based smokes used to pick up lighting - when she sings, the smoke interferes with her vocal chords. She has talked extensively about the kinds of microphones used for recording that pick up the breathy, husky textures of her voice better than others. And during her Rainbow era, she was on record saying how some recording mics do a better job picking up the harmonics of her voice - its very subtle in her chest register. But when she goes into her whistle register there are times when you can pick apart 2 or 3 notes. Lalah Hathaway does a really good job of demonstrating it because she has developed that technique. But for Mariah, its a coincidence to the sound she makes in a specific register.
@LesageSinging3 жыл бұрын
I think folks don't understand how the artists who did recordings in the 90s have a far deeper understanding of microphones. Quality sound going in was so important when any post production involved the cutting of literal tape. I'm not surprised to hear, on more than one occasion, to learn how diverse Mariah's knowledge of audio recording is.
@mycenth223 жыл бұрын
@@LesageSinging I wholeheartedly agree with your comment. Many singers from pre-millenium have a better understanding of the singing that is recorded versus the singing that is live. Also technology like pro-tools wasn't a thing - so every take was recorded and used without having to adjust pitch and volume to some extent. Elton John talked about this when recording Captain Fantastic (or it might have been Queen - Freddie Mercury - I can't remember) But I value the depth of your video analyses. Keep up the good work. Would love to see a video of you doing an MTV Unplugged performance from Mariah. Either Can't Let Go or Emotions. Both are stellar. Kelly Price (her former back up singer in the 90s and now a solo singer/R&B star stated the Can't Let Go version was a literal on the spot addition to the taping of MTV unplugged).
