Interestingly enough, I think Mariah's voice changed with age the way most women do. She gained power and lots of it. The fact that she can still sing her high flying rep while also having that increase in vocal power is a testament to her abilities. Kirsten Flagstad is one of the biggest voices to ever sing Wagner and her voice changed as a result of her pregnancy. Many share that transformation after child birth and many cannot sing what they sang before. Mariah is just that good

@@LesageSinging Yeah, 1997-2001 were the years Mariah really overworked herself to the point where she would sleep 4 hours a week while travelling 2 European countries in a day. At that point in her career she was building herself as her own 'brand', to prove she could still have a successful career without 100% support Sony Music and her ex-husband Tommy Mottola. Her last album under Sony took only a few months to finish and she did to be free from Sony. Then Glitter came and she also overworked herself as a producer, actress and singer. It took a huge toll on her voice. So by 2003-2004 you could still hear remnant of vocal fatigue in her voice. By 2005 after releasing a hugely success album The Emancipation of Mimi, she once again overworked herself and it took another toll on voice in 2006-2008. By 2009, after years of touring and a miscarriage, the vocal damage really became so apparent and her voice really change both in tone and became less consistent. Nowadays, on a good day Mariah can outsing and put singers of this generation to shame, but more than vocal damage it's her self-confidence that has been really shot after years of public scrutiny.

Mariah, in this performance, was in very good vocal shape. All of the whispery breathy vocals were done by choice. Mariah likes that style she finds it to be more personal and intimate because Mariah is very introspective in her music and likes to display vulnerability and intimacy in her vocals. Her belts are supernatural to me and most other fans(Lambs) because we really don't understand how she can be so precise and fluid in her upper register were most artist struggle to achieve that mastery. Mariah is beyond comprehension she is phenomenal she is a legend. Please react to her performance of Emotions MTV Unplugged 1992. Vintage Mariah is another kind of animal and I love your vocal analyses.
