Yes, she said that she had to record it over and over because she cried so much! I think it might be one og her most personal songs as she said that to be able to make the album she had to fix a big wound in herself that she didn't know she had and that it was hard to face that she had a wound herself❤ I cry to the song all the time.

Starvation, The Blade were the biggest surprises on the album for me. I never thought we would get a German Techno track, and a rock song from Aurora. Obviously, she loves both genres, but I didn't think she would ever put songs like this on an album. The entire album is amazing, but the second half is utterly mind blowing. I love all of the experimentation on this record. And there is something about Aurora screaming "FEEL THE RAGE" that is so cathartic. She continues to explore all of the facets of her own humanity, and vocal ability. Also, in Invisible wounds, she is crying. She had a very hard time recording the song, and she said that was the only take that was usable. She cries when she sings it live as well.

Even after a ton of listens, I can't choose a favorite... it's a no skip album, straight through, every time. There are a few songs I strongly connect to and if I need a good cry, they are my go to. Overall, I see the album as a journey of trying to be a good human and processing the hard things in an often scary and harsh world, and at the end coming to terms with the fact that we cannot fix others no matter how much we love and support them. It's a beautiful work of art.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite of her albums. She really pushed herself creatively. It doesn't feel like variety for variety sake, there does feel like a central theme. I enjoyed your analysis, and surprised responses to these songs. I'm really looking forward to what she does next.🤘😜

I'm amazed by the diversity of music Aurora has given us in her still young career. Acoustic to EDM, sparse to complex, make you cry, make you dance...and I love it all! She's talked about making a metal album. I'm not even that much of a metal fan...but something tells me I'll love her version of it! Thanks for another great breakdown. Much like Aurora...your smile brightens my day!

The second half of this record is so intense and unrelenting that I had to take a small break from it on my first listen. By the time I eventually got to Invisible Wounds I just broke down completely it was beautiful. Aurora is, without a doubt, by favorite artist. She’s so new and unique, nobody does what she does and I love that.

Thanks, that was awesome! I really think this is a special album. It is so diverse, but yet, so consistently good across the many different styles. The production is crazy throughout, with so many layers that somehow all manage to blend together. She has always been a master of background vocals (using her own voice), but I think she took that to a whole new level on this album. Same with using her voice as an instrument. Not just vocalizations, but actually sounding like an instrument. There are times that at first you think you're hearing a synth or a sax, for example, but it's actually her voice. She must have had so much fun producing this. I would be very interested in knowing your favorites as you become more familiar with the album. Here are mine (roughly): "The Conflict of the Mind," "Starvation," "The Essence," "The Blade" and "A Soul with No King."

I consider 'A Soul With No King" to be rather special ... Composed by Aurora and Fredrik, produced by Aurora and Fredrik, recorded by Fredrik, Aurora on piano and percussion, Fredrik on Mandola with a guest, Håkon Aase on fiddle. A further demonstration of their versatility and talent 😍 Nina, have you watched "AURORA - A Soul With No King (Live Performance) | Vevo" yet? ... you brought me an unexpected working break, thanks for that. i really like each of these songs, maybe not the studio version but there are so many versions of these songs already. that's what i really like about her art, a song is never finished, she always find new ways to interpret it. always on the hunt for a perfect version. would be nice to see you reacting to other variations of her songs, like the vevo live sessions or concert recordings (glastonbury isn't the best audio quality, the dublin concert has a better recording). thanks for your efforts.

Thanks for another great reaction Nina🥰 This is the AOTY imo, her best so far😍😍 She’s not capable of making bad songs. I love every song😍 Aurora plays a lot more instruments in this album than she usually does. Like in for example “A soul with no King” she plays piano and percussion😍 I highly recommend checking out her live performance of this song at Vevp, a stripped down version. Also the remix featuring NATURE❤️🦋 Tom Rowlands from Chemical Brothers co-produced “My name”, and co-wrote “My body is not mine”

Amazing album. This and last albums are very different each other and different then previous ones - but always amazing and quality music. It is very impressive how versatile her music is even if she wrote her songs (but cooperating with different artist in last album which can also help with this different vibes). You should check live Vevo version of Soul with no King (stunning!) and also compare this version with album version and Remix version :), Ut could be in one reaction at last live and Remix :). As always great reaction. I love these comments, just music joy and general very interesting and enjoying your reactions. Ps. She cried in last song - good catch :). Sh said she could not sing/record it without crying.

Picked out 5 favourites from the album to put on my playlist. They are are all from this second half. Probably not a coincident. Something about the intensity and diversity, maybe.? A soul with no king (play it load!!), dreams, starvation, the blade, my body is not mine. "A soul.." is kind of three songs in one with nordic, celtic and afrikan influences; remind me a little of Senegalese/Celtic Baka Beoynd...

I find it interesting that you got so swept up in the 'concept' of the album and songs that you seemed to miss, or just didnt mention, the more clear meanings in the lyrics. 'i feel rage' 'soft hearts need protection' 'ceasefire now!' this second half, when i listened to it for the first time, seemed very pointed. Aurora to me clearly angry, an emotion she doesn't show so much in her songs, and seemingly on other people's behalf. Knowing how passionate she is about human rights, i quickly suspected i knew what she was angry about (well, one of the many things). And The video for 'Starvation' confirmed it when i gave it a watch. I love Aurora. We need more compassion like hers.

A soul with no king… Maybe one would rather say, «a king with no soul»..? I imagine (probably some reactor gave me the idea) the song is told from the perspective of the soul (the consciousness/the conscience). That is my favourite song, ieven though I love many of them. I have heard many reactions, you said Tennessee and Irish/celtic vibe. Others have also said Celtic or Nordic vibe. One reactor said Tibetan, I have thought MiddleEastern. One said Native American. I think someone said «viking». And one reactor said medieval… And of course there Are some modern sounds.. So it’s like a timeless music with inspirasjon from all over the world, from a soul with no king, how brilliant is that?! Aurora has said that after she learned that deaf people like her music, she always tries to do something interesting with the rythms for them to feel… I Wonder how many artists think about that… Thank you for your interesting analysis. I have waited for this💕

What surprises me is how Aurora uses religion or religious references in her writing. Many fans say she uses nature...which is true, but I...even as an Athiest, appreciate how she uses Religion or spiritual beliefs and uses them to question or amplify a point of view. Like the Hymm of the Pearl line........ I do believe this is her most personal, or maybe reflective album of hers...and I believe it is honest. She's angry, frustrated, scared at times. She's sad and disappointed at others. She's questioning....what happened to not just her heart, but humanity itself. I love many of the " chances" she took musically on this album. She had to know some fans of hers only want her to sing in higher tones....but she chose to do most of the album in as she put it...." in deeper tones". She said. You can give up on me, but never give up on love"...... I can see how she felt she needed to address the issues she addressed on this album. It's natural growth as an adult. You only truly start to understand and question some things with age. She's always questioned humanity in her past work, but from a more optimistic and encouraging or positive perspective. But I believe with the State of our planet....global warming, the wars, the rise of far Right politics, the disconnect because of technology, etc etc....she is ...let's say not happy. I'm a big Pink Floyd fan...this is her Animals album. If your a fan you will understand the comparison......just an Artist who is screaming out in frustration at society

Liked to listen to your thoughts. Aurora is always interesting and surprising. Not easy to get into because she changes all the time. I was annoyed by the album production for several weeks, especially the voice effects and compressed/distorted feel in the first half. Effects are less annoying in the second half, fit the music better. Had some problems getting used to the rave parts, I guess I think of it as drug music. I started to like most of the songs when hearing different live recordings. The Vevo live recordings of STOS and ASWNK are another level even for Aurora. Also the live of WTDDL from Roskilde is a good quality live (for being non-studio). Starvation from Glastonbury is OK quality, but the lower register instruments weren't recorded properly, but it is what it is.

Sorry, wouldn't it be more pleasant to listen to the song and then analyze it than to stop in Konstand. No criticism, I think your analyzes are good and since many of us know the songs, we can follow you too. But somehow it is misleading. I found it extreme, especially with Starvation. Of course it's a reaction video and of course you have to expect interruptions.... but give the songs a 1 minute change. I like your reaction videos, only this one irritates me... but it's a matter of taste. 😀 I know you can't please everyone 😉

@@ninaschofield Yes, it's a problem with YT. What I meant, however, was, you start the song, 5 seconds later the first analysis comes, then you continue playing the song, 15 seconds later the next analysis and so on. Give the song a minute to listen to, maybe something will happen in that minute that can/would influence your first analysis. As I said, not a criticism (or at least a little) more of a suggestion.❤
