Hello Dereck, it was only Agnetha in the verses. She recorded two voices for the second verse which were blended in the final mix. Thanks to her great singing ability she was able to make herself sound slightly like a child in the second voice (which struck you).

No third voice. Just the girls managing to create a child-like quality to their vocals to fit the lyrics. As you may have noticed, this track slides into the next and last track with the start of the ticking clock on 'Like an angel passing through my room'.
@chrisblyth40724 жыл бұрын
Quite often Agnetha's voice was sampled to create the effect that there was 2 voices. If you listen very closely you can tell it's Agnetha's voice. Agnetha's ability to connect the emotion to the lyrics is something she has said in an interview that she does to bring the meaning of the song through. She was very connected to her children. She had a daughter first then a son with Bjorn.
@herrbonk36354 жыл бұрын

There's a live performance of this track on the Dick Cavett interviews ABBA. It's the band's last live performace on tv. The performance is more poignant and heartbreaking than the studio. Agnetha feels every words. Her eyes tells a whole lot of story.

The true genius of ABBA’s songs is how they captured the joy and tragedy in the everyday moments of ordinary people’s lives. The emotions of every mother raising a child in this song; the highlight of teenage fantasy in Dancing Queen; heartbreak in SOS; the hard work of marriage in One Man, One Woman; the tragedy of divorce in The Winner Takes It All; the monotony of loneliness in The Day Before You Came.

This is a very emotional, heart felt song with the lyrics by Bjorn about his daughter, Linda. They have a daughter and a son. If you ever read any books about ABBA you will find how many layers Frida and Agnetha (An-yetta) put in most of their songs. As Agnetha said they made a chorus out of their voices. There is no one but Frida and Agnetha singing. That is their magic.

there's splendid live version from the Dick Cavett Special in 1981... like that live version even better than the studio one... it never got me at the time, but when it became a center song in the musical Mamma Mia the beauty of the song struck me.... could have been a single as well...
@sLAPtHEcAT664 жыл бұрын
that live version is also interesting because during the verses, you get an alternative sound as Frida sings harmony - on the studio version (verses only) Agnetha does double-vocal tracks and sings harmony to herself, making it sound more fragile & vulnerable, Frida sings the harmony for the chorus

It’s really so heartwarming seeing your reactions to ABBA’s music because you don’t hold back in your recognition of the beauty of the songs as well as the complexity of the arrangements. I would venture to assume most of the comments are from people like myself who have grown up with the music of ABBA that it’s practically part of our DNA at this point. Since you are reviewing The Visitors album there is a track which was recorded during the sessions for The Visitors album which did not make the final cut but has subsequently been included on reissues of the album called “Should I Laugh or Cry” which I would suggest you do a reaction video for. Also from “The Visitors” album is the song “One of Us” which I highly recommend as well. Finally, this song is not on “The Visitors” album (it’s on the “Super Trouper”) but you really should do a reaction video for it “The Winner Takes It All”. I’d really love to see your reaction. Keep up these awesome reaction vids. I watched some of the Spanish artists reaction vids you have posted. Check my comment on Thalia’s “A Quien Le Importa”.

"Slipping through my fingers" (1981) is in my opinion the most testimonial and experiential song by ABBA This lyrics are very deep, about the growth of a son and how those moments of time go by day by day the guitarist Björn writes it about her 7/8 year old daughter and her mother Agnetha sings it Sometimes it is related to "The winner takes it all", because it has as protagonists Björn and Agnetha But there are differences between the two stories: 1) that is the figurative story about a divorce (although probably with parts of the reality that Agnetha and Björn lived), but this is a story inspired by the daily lives of parents another difference with 2) this does not arouse the morbidity of the leading couple, it is an intimate story of parents and children that generates tenderness and nostalgia 3) perhaps this one does not have the usual catchy refrains of ABBA or a powerful melody like that, here its melody is soft, cared for and intimate, it accompanies without invading the wonderful emotional interpretation of Agnetha, that always shines much more when the song asks to express the feelings In short, it's a beautiful song by melody and interpreter lyrics, it touches the most intimate fibers of emotion and nostalgia, in my Top 20 of all ABBA songs
