he wasn't lipsyncing he actually said it himself that he didn't want to have the background voice when they told him that he could, referring to those high note parts. He is actually hitting those high notes live but there are his background vocals where he is singing in his deeper voice obviously for the effect of the song. In the recorded version of the song when the high note comes, there is also him singing his part too at the same time which he obviously can't do at the same time live. So in the live version, he does the high note while his voice is singing in the background. There are some parts of their songs where they are part of the background track like at 5:54 where he's just using his regular 'talking voice'. There isn't background track for the entire song but some parts have it like at 5:54 or 8:41 and 10:12 "are you calling me a sinner?". and he knows this as a singer so he purposefully doesn't even sing over those parts sometimes. He legit removes the mic from his mouth at those parts of the song and does his performance acting for the effects of it. You can tell the difference too because when he is not singing over those parts it sounds more in the 'background' but right after that when he starts to sing it you can hear the shift in the volume and it sounds much louder and clearer showing that it is his voice that's singing it live now.

i really don’t see what the problem is with having back up vocals in this performance. You can literally hear him singing over them. You can hear the sibilants/sibilance on his mic. I don’t mind him cutting out from singing (and frankly I don’t think he was even trying to hide it) because he only did that when he was preparing to do those really big high notes at the end. I think he did that to have enough air and vocal strength to pull those notes off live. So no he wasn’t lip syncing. I thought you’d be able to pick that up since you’re a vocal couch but oh well. @breea34264 жыл бұрын
He does have backup vocals. This is only a clip from a 3 hour long concert, and the rest of the songs (before and after) require extremely difficult choreography. I think he’s excused the backup vocals. At this point, however, I don’t know if this is your intention or not, but it just feels like you’re trying to have your “Aha!” moment. And that last note, when he pulls off the high note-that’s just him. And we know this because this particular concert is one of the last, if not the last, that they had before the tour ended. In all the previous concerts, we actually see him struggling to pull off the note, from his very first performance where he struggled to hit it, each time getting better and better until this moment. I understand that your opinion is only based on the particular video you see, but I hope you understand where we come from on OUR opinions, since we’ve been seeing them perform for seven years and can tell their voices apart from the backup vocals easily.

The original studio version has multiple layers at some parts of the songs. When you go live you obviously can't sing the same part of the song in your high range and low range, and you can't sing the main lyrics and the background vocals at the same time. He's only ONE person. So he made a choice, In the first part of the song, the backtrack was mostly his talking parts. In the second part of the song he chose to go for the background highnotes live and let the vocal part of the song in the background. Which in my opinion is a clever choice because of how rare it is for us fans to see him do high notes in BTS OT7 songs. When you go on stage you have to do artistic choice and background vocals are part of that choice, they support the singer in his art. Which is really different than lipsynching.
@sophiam.krager38154 жыл бұрын

from beginning to end you only seek backing vocals and your assessment of the quality of the vocals and songs is only as a complement. I don't know, but as long as I see a number of vocal coaches, they have never had an issue with BTS using backing vocals. Have you ever done a concert by singing 20 more songs while dancing and 65,000 audiences? and I also don't like the look on your face that seems to underestimate singers who use backing vocals. Sorry, this is the last time I visited your channel. Good luck

This is quite the emotional song. He was quite nervous about performing this song live as it's quite demanding/challeging especially after multiple high choreo songs. He was therefore way more focust on putting out vocals then taking care of facial expressions etc like he (they) usually do. Which is noticeably when you know. About the lipsync part. I did here a sound change twice so I believe he sung the first few words and than later picked up again. I also think it was to give him a breather in advance of the high notes. The backup vocals there are present for the effect of it. K-pop isn't just about vocals, it's about the full picture, clothes, makeup, dance, face, hair etc.

I've just seen him perform other songs so much stronger. If he needed a longer break after dance songs then they should have backup dancers come out for a minute or two to perform and make a scene transition rather than he him go directly into singing the next song and just turning up his backup vocals. He's a strong singer that really doesn't need that loud of backing vocals. I didn't think he was lip syncing but I also feel that he wasn't singing very loud either on parts ( or they sure turned down his mic for some odd reason)
@pieceofhope82644 жыл бұрын
@@SongsFromASuitcase there sure are many ways to deal with these kinda things but this was his first time performing this particular song live and beside the fact that he was very nervous about it a first time is always a bit of a tryout on what does and doesn't work for the song. Besides that I don't think a 2 minute break is gonna help much. Their concerts are extremely demanding too the point were staff is waiting backstage with oxygen to give every time they comeback stage to change outfits. In some of the documentary parts we see how they get backstage, get oxygen, nearly or completely collapse on the ground and the second that they get back on stage none of that exhaustion is showed and that keeps going for 2-3 hours. These concert they really give their all and they feel regrets for even the slightest of mistakes.

Songs From A Suitcase im sorry but you need to calm down. You are new to bts and probably new to kpop THAT IS NOT HOW THEIR CONCERTS WORK. They have a couple of minutes in between, they play a VCR. They barely have time to change outfits. The moment they leave the stage the staff brings oxygen inhalers because they are about to pass out and need recovery for the next section because of the hard choreo. They do not bring any other artist to perform besides themselves and literally i’ve seen no one complain this much about them. You don’t know what goes on behind the scenes as we do. You don’t know the kpop industry as WE do so sit down Your reply doesn’t sit right with me AT ALL. You are not about to tell people how to do their job Each of them has a solo in the wings album so the order the songs go is the order they use for the concert with other songs in between with hard choreo so... first educate yourself and then comment on it

Gosh the hours and hours I (we) spent watching their performances and you think you need to explain and point out exactly when and where and how much they use backup vocals. Most of your target audience inhale their videos and know everything about their sound (even if we are not vocal coaches and don't know where exactly the sound comes from etc [which I do find very interesting!]). But you point out certain parts as if you caught them doing something scandalous. The point is, even if you applaud them for certain things and explain other stuff too, your negative attitude just gives this a sour taste for me. And I really don't mean that I think they are perfect in everything they do and don't deserve criticism - I rather mean that you don't consider aspects like 3hrs of concerts, touring weeks and weeks and weeks and that these facts just make it necessary to use i.e. backup vocals and that these don't (!!!) lower the quality of the performance but ensure that the fans are satisfied and the artist don't suffer even more from the extreme pressure they put on themselves on a daily basis. I understand that you want to react to these videos in an insulated kind of style but that's just simply unfair to the legacy of the artist and you'll get a lot of hate for this. I personally would suggest to stop doing bts reactions because i don't think you can satisfy your audience with those. I won't come back here again, good luck tho. You're surely very skilled as a vocal coach in real life, but maybe not so much for these kind of vids, no offense at all. He stopped at 5:23 allowing the backup vocal to take over to prepare for the highlight of the song which is his high notes.... Please observe the jaws, cheeks, and lips when they stop moving... It's actually easy to identify when he stop and when he sang in a song.... But it's understandable cuz you're not really that deep into them... Also, I love how you compliment his voice.... Other don't really pay attention to his voice unless it's requested.... 💜💜💜

It's not stereotyping, it's human anatomy. Yea I was comparing to US standards. I meant it more in the fact that larger structure bodies ( within the world) have thicker larger vocal cords and therefore sing lower, where smaller bodies have smaller thinner vocal cords and sing higher. High notes are made with smaller thinner vibration and lower notes are made with shorter thicker vibration.

1. Yes there are back up vocals for the overall ambient of the song. 2. BTS don't lip sync 3. You know it will be great if you react to the recorded version that way you will clearly see the diference of when they're singing live.

As for the apparent lip synching. I went to a studio with my Uncle back in 1974. There was a woman there who recorded 4 harmony parts right then and there, one right after the other. The play back was astounding, it was perfect. She did 4 part harmony with 1 take each. So here's my theory. I think they do some of their own backup vocals. Live performances, in Korea, can not have lip synching. They'd be crucified.

And do not be afraid or discouraged to voice your opinions real army will support you

Yes he does have backing vocal. Another thing to notice is that at certain parts have backing vocals louder. From what I have observed When they practice for concerts they have set portions where they would want to rest and would want backing vocals louder. This makes sense to me because they do a 3hr show with LOT of dancing and running around the stage. In this song there is no dancing but this song comes right in middle of their setlist meaning there is certain amount of exhaustion from previous performances and he also needs to make sure he is not strained at till the very end. So yeah they do have backing vocals which are louder at some parts but otherwise they go for live vocals as much as possible

V isn’t lipsyncing. He’s just that good a singer! His skill is immeasurable and incomparable!!!
@Ashes13434 жыл бұрын
Late to this, I own Memories of 2017, which is where this clip comes from. It’s strange because in the clip you’re watching, it doesn’t sound like his volume changes. Which I thought was weird, because we all know they utilize background vocals, but I didn’t remember ever thinking there was a time any member was actually faking singing... Not to mention that this performance clip is an official BigHit release. If he was attempting to lipsync and made a mistake there, wouldn’t they have cut to a crowd shot and then came back to him? So I pulled out my DVD set, and in the clip directly from the DVD, it’s very clear the audio drops notably for the last 5 or so syllables he sings, when he isn’t singing in this clip. There are backup vocals, but there’s a clear loss in volume in the official DVD, it’s obvious he’s not singing and preparing for the next verse. I’m not sure why it doesn’t sound that way in your clip. Like I said, it shocked me so much I got out my DVD just to watch it again. Lipsyncing is a thing the group gets accused of a lot, and it’s something that can be prevalent across the music industry. So sometimes as fans, we can be quick to jump in to defend them, I hope you don’t take anything personally. Your insight is appreciated, and to me that clip is deceiving. I’ve found that how much backing track varies a lot between award shows, tv performances, and tour performances. I’ve always found their tour performances to be really easy to hear the members voices over the backing track. I’m sure each venue has different standards that they might encourage a group to use. That being said, I’ve watched re-uploaded tour performances on KZbin where to me, it seems like the group is really relying on the backing track, and then I rewatch the performance on my blu-ray and it’s so obvious that they’re singing live. I honestly wonder if the audio compresses strangely or if the clips being reuploaded aren’t the best quality to begin with. I watched Jimin’s “Lie” on KZbin before I got my Memories of 2017 delivered, and based on the KZbin video, I legitimately thought he was lipsyncing the whole time. 1000% not the case, it’s so obvious when he drops his vocals and lets the backing track do the work, and you can hear the plosives and breathing so easily. I can honestly say it completely changed my thoughts on his vocal prowess. As far as I’ve seen, BTS is pretty obvious about when they stop singing and let the backing track pick up at the end of phrases. I’ve never seen them attempt to literally fake singing during a part. They make it very obvious that they’re just not singing and there’s a backing track. Also helps that they’re horrible at lip syncing. They had to do it on some variety shows (when they’re just showing the dancing) and it’s legitimately, hilarious bad 🤣 Omg and their music videos have some really great moments too 🤣 Anyway, hope you get to read this super long comment. If you ever get the chance to watch their tour performance from the official blu-ray, highly recommend. Memories of 2019 went on sale yesterday, in case you’re interested lolol

The reason a lot of people get upset about bringing up the backup vocals is because BTS has been accused of lip syncing a lot in the past, although they very, very rarely do lip sync. (It's only a handful of performances among the hundreds they've done, and it's pretty much always been for tv-shows, not concerts) I know you didn't accuse him of lip syncing, but the constant talk of backup vocals is a tired topic for us. We are all aware that they use them, and majority of their fans have no trouble hearing the difference. A lot of the time they've been accused of lip syncing have been when the backup vocals were too loud and ended up drowning out their live vocals, or their mics weren't working properly. I'm sorry some of the comments on here are a bit too far, but like I said. We are a fandom that constantly gets talked down to and are very rarely respected just because we like a certain artist and this kind of blurs together with that. It's okay to point out the backup vocals, but to constantly bring it up over and over again feels like mocking rather than being educational, even though I doubt that's how you meant it to come across. I hope this helps you to maybe understand us a bit better on this topic.

There was a part which Taehyung intentionally stopped singing so we can hear his backing vocal just before the high note. She looked so happy to have caught him with the backing track and replayed it again to prove to us that she was right. We already know that they sang over their own backing vocals during performances.
@Annaonesun4 жыл бұрын
@@emilyl1094 Yeah, I think she has this idea that we are naive enough to think they don’t use backup vocals at all, even though we all know it. And like she's said, there’s nothing wrong with using them, and yet she keeps hammering on about it, focusing more on that than the actual LIVE vocals. It really does feel like being talked down to.

I think it would've been better if you listened to the studio version of this song before listening to the live version because then it might've been easier to tell the difference between the backing vocals and live vocals. In the studio version, some of the lyrics he sings kind of merge in to each other so he obviously can't do that in live performances. The backup vocals are for support and he does not lip sync. You can really hear the difference of his live vocals and the backup vocals and the volume difference between the two. ARMY is not trying to offend or disrespect you in anyway.

@7:45 The higher notes in KPop is stylistic of the genre and your theory about higher notes because ‘Koreans are petite’ is a stereotype. There are allot of Korean men who are quite tall. Most Korean male KPop singers are actually average height-tall. BTS Members are from 5’8.5”-5’11”. V is 5’10.

The reason kpop music usually has male singers that hits higher notes is because the audience wants to hear singers that can high notes rather than singers that can't hit high notes so that's why in kpop, the industry tends to favor tenor singers rather than baritone or bass singers which is why there is a lot more tenor singers than baritone singers in the kpop industry and the theory that korean people are petite so that's why they can hit high notes is just absolute nonsense

Songs From A Suitcase this argument comparing to ‘western/us’ standards still doesn’t make sense either. The Weeknd, Charlie Puth, Sam Smith, Freddie Mercury, Adam Levine, Dimash, Axl Rose all these singers are tall 5’10” -6’3” and hit very very high notes too and a few have androgynous vocals as well so your theory about ‘petite Koreans’ is just ridiculous. They sing their songs with emotions according to what the song is about. They always tell a story and the back up vocals adds to the story telling. This is a sad song and that's why he sang it like that-not to sound sensual ,smoky, get the ladies. You may teach people how to sound like V, but probably not the sincerity in emotions which is what makes BTS different

Actually, he wasn't lipsyncing but we know that has some backup vocals there, BUT, one detail that explain why they put this backup vocals is that they were making 4 concerts in a row with near 4 hours of duration, this perfomance was from the third day, so I think is very commom and understandable they use this support for help them not losing their voice for the other days of concert. Even Taehyung said he was kind sick that day and his voice was not 100%, and he still show us this amazing perfomance with wonderfull vocals... Thanks for the sincere reaction, I'm just explaining the background history of why they use some backup vocals, and is necessary to reforce that even tough they use this, you can clearly hear their beautifull voice live.

There are clearly backing vocals (because how else would you get harmonies in a solo song lol) and there is a double for the main vocals I think, but you CAN hear when he is signing over it (especially if you've heard the studio version), and I believe that this is the way many songs are for bts when they're performing live. They don't lip sync but they do use backing vocals in 'almost' every song when performing live (there are a few exceptions I believe, but I'm not sure which ones specifically) But yeah you can tell when the members themselves are singing because of the small imperfections that occur when performing live

I like your review of his voice, I will say the use of background vocals is prevalent in their lives, but depending on the song and wherein the songs its either non-existent, minimal, or noticeable. They also purposefully place it higher in some areas depending on where they take breaks based on the behind the scene footage. Also, some of the vocalists use it more than others because of their vocal type or due to their choreography. Many mentioned they don't lip-sync because they're terrible which is SO true (watch their Christmas special and RM is hilariously bad, it's adorable), but if you watched enough of their live performances, though I'm not telling you to whatsoever, they change their vocals a lot. It's actually intriguing to see what they decide to try out in live performances because it can change the mood of the song and cause fans to be in shock at how incredible the change was, or it can flop sometimes (fans don't care). The times you hear the background vocals when you're not supposed to are funny, like in 'So What' the Final in Seoul, Jimin forgot to sing because he was having fun with V.

I'm going to try and say this respectfully like you asked... but I'm slightly confused. You were able to correctly identify the background vocals earlier in the song, sitting below his live vocals, but you can still clearly hear his live vocals. But you somehow missed that there was his vocals and background vocals, and then when he moved away from the mic, it was clearly just the background vocals? I have no training in music or vocals at all, and most of what you said about technique goes right over my head, but even I can hear the vocals go from full 2 "tracks or feeds" to 1 at that point. I would have initially guessed that maybe the oversight was because you were holding your dog and unintentionally had a split focus and missed it or because you are only wearing one earbud, but as I said before, you were able to pick out the background vs live feeds earlier. So I'm confused as why you couldn't tell that difference again, and instead acted like you had a gotcha moment that we somehow all missed... BTS always sings live and often used background vocal tracks to make the song "fuller" and add layers... however that translates to vocal speech. Soooo yeah. I hope you watch the original video again, maybe with better headphones and both in, and they I promise you, you can easily hear the difference.

ALL Idol music uses backing tracks. It's not usually for BTS to drop their mic and let the backing track sing a part if they need more air or doing a complicated dance move. They don't pretend to sing anything, they drop their mic so it's obvious to everyone when they are singing or not unless it's a headset of course.
