Hello Singderellos,
In this video, I react for the first time to Soch The Band and Hadiya Hashmi performing ‘Bol Hu’ at Nescafé Basement. In this video, I analyse their amazing performance, explain and demonstrate their vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. This performance left me absolutely speechless as their delivery, passion, musicality and soul was deeply moving. This is one of the very best performances I have come across in my channel so far and makes me want to dive deeper into eastern music and singing. Please feel free to suggest more artists from Pakistan, India and other eastern/asian countries!
Original video link: • Bol Hu - Soch the Band...
For lessons, workshops and video submissions please check out my website www.thefairyvoicemother.com
I'm so excited to be a part of your singing journey, It's one that truly never ends.
Love you forever,
The Fairy Voice Mother x

The explanation you gave for the word "Hu" mentioned in the song was actually related to the Almighty ALLAH, from his 99 names, "Hu" is also one of them. So this song was actually asking you to "Call the Almighty or take his name (in every situation of your life)

"Why are all the Pakistani Vocal performances sponsored by various beverages?" In the 90's Pepsi came out with a show Pepsi Tops of the Pops which was the first show doing a top 10 of the Pakistani music scene. With investment in music shows and cricket, Pepsi came to dominate the beverage market throughout the 90s. Coke responded in the mid and late 2000s by investing sponsoring Coke Studio. It worked, and Coke name became a more household name gained back some share. Nescafe seeing this, also, believes a similar strategy could work for it. You asked -.-

Wanna get a real answer? It's because in this society, this day and age, being famous by singing is not about having a good voice, it's about writing songs that resonate with people. You can have the most amazing voice ever but if you can't write a good song to save your life then you're not gonna make it.... UNLESS you have a team of people writing songs for you, or unless you go the reverse technique and write songs so bad that everyone wants to see just to come and shit talk (watch Rebecca Black's story). And you also need image. Not necessarily being a sex symbol like Minaj or K Perry, just being able to transform yourself using fashion. And the other way is to have a sad story or a cute story to make the audience go AWWWW (check reality shows and specially those with kids singing).

What I was interested to hear was how the girl slid through pitches, at times, extremely dissonant, then floated back to (what's the opposite of dissonant) in-tune tones. Even in jazz, using instruments that can produce dissonant tones such as the trombone, you don't hear this degree of dissonance. Amazing musicality this girl has.

Dammit girl... I'm gobsmacked by the depth and breadth of your knowledge and the passion which you radiate when talking about what is obviously your calling in life. I'm likewise bowled over by your ability to reproduce flawless examples of what you so eloquently describe during your analysis of the music. Finally, I'm slightly ashamed to admit that my lifelong passion for music has focused only on the western variety (Heptatonic scale, not Country and Western; although I do like a little bluegrass now and then). Your appreciation for this brilliant blend of east and west is infectious and will likely cause me to investigate the genre more fully.

Thank you so much for this reaction! Really loved your heartfelt comments but as always your vocal lessons are just on point. Please react to Tu Jhoom, from Coke Studio. I would love love love your take on it, because it's really hard to sing, maybe you could make it easier.

I love your reaction. I saw many reactions for this song. You did it best ....as well the song is awesome this is all o can say. Both singers are great and do not think they have a trainer. They did this a a job. The girl she is gifted and many other kids are.

Loved this one, another rabbit hole to go down, I have an enormous burrow already 😂😂😂 She was just remarkable, most strange to see you stuck for words 😂 I would love you to watch The Warning, there are 2 versions of Enter Sandman, one when they were 9, 11 and 13 and one last year which was the First track on Metallica’s Blacklist album with Alissia Cara, both are amazingly good!

I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel, I've discovered so many godly performances like this one. I can't stop tears coming out when the little girl starts her piece, so much emotion coming out of such a small package, I wanna hug her. And you aswell, I haven't really met someone as passionate about anything, let alone music. You exude warmth, kindness, dorkiness, happiness, you're amazing to be honest. Wish I could've had that coffee you mentioned with you, would've been amazing to pick your brain in person. And hope you eventually get a human baby of your own, he/she would be a very lucky kid. I hope this doesn't give out stalker vibes. I mean, I am subbed, but I think that doesn't qualify.

I must admit that I was completely blown away by Hadiya's performance. Probably even more than you 🙂 I found out that the dissonant, non-lyric singing is called Sargam and the way of assigning syllables to pitches is called Svara or Swara. Now I know what to search for to find other performances like this one.
