It's heart breaking to know that Amjad Sabri did not live to see this epic performance went on air. This particular piece of music was 1st sung together by Rahat's unlce (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan) and Amjad's father and uncle (Ghulam Farid Sabri and Maqbool Sabri respectively) nearly 40 years before this coke studio production.

I've spent the past 28 years - almost the entirety of my adult life - with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Michael Brooks' 1995 album 'Night Song' as one of my top 5 albums OF ALL TIME, and I'm SO EXCITED to find that you're lending your knowledge of the human voice to include music from around the world on your channel. I don't even have to close my eyes to hear Nusrat's singing from that album (and others I found afterwards) and it's so exciting to me to run across someone showcasing the unbelievable talent of his nephew. edit: I'm not even 10min into your reaction yet, and I already know that the minute it's over, I'm going to re-watch it immediately.

24:46 Yes, it’s the tone of the word and how it’s said that may change meaning. Urdu language in itself is a very lyrical language and is suitable for the nuances you mentioned. Simply put, the poetry and what it means, changes the tone, dictating the understanding of the verse being said. Some parts of this very original poem may actually have a somber meaning if sung differently.

Thanks for shining a light on this music. I personally never listen much to the lyrics of any song but more to the sounds. Much of the time lyrics are largely irrelevant to music other than giving a clue what its about. Same with this,.. the music speaks for itself.

My 2 cents several Pakistani Coke Studio performances you’ve reacted to are modern renditions of “Qawwali”a type of Islamic devotional or “Sufi” compositions. These have a trance-like quality to them, just what you need in a devotional setting like a Dargah / Shrine

Your comments are priceless. It is good thing you know music otherwise, this kind of music pass over the heads of most. I must say sweetie you are infectious in a joyous way. Remember, the URDU language is one of the most beautiful language for poetry along with Persian and Arabic. This particular rendition is in very old Urdu, which is not spoken now. Written 750 years ago by a very famous Poet Amir Khusro of legendry reputation. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to the lyrics not just the signing. As the Singing goes, I am sure I don't have to say to mention to you, these two are rendering a masterclass, which you understand better than I do. Keep the good work going. Your smile is worth millions, like their singing is. Priceless.
