Fun fact: Bruno’s voice actor said himself that he had never sung before, at least for a movie/show. So this was his first time singing on recording. But producers and directors only said the reason they didn’t wanna try to find another actor was cause the inability to sing matched Bruno’s character perfectly. Tho this is the only song where he speaks due to that fact. But if I do say so myself, he did phenomenal. That “I’ll start look it” and “we need a door knob” just scratches that certain spot in my brain so well. I also find it funny the lin-Manuel was begging Disney to let him voice Bruno, like seriously, he said himself that he would not leave them alone about it he was dedicated. But sadly he gave up in fear they would scrap him from being the song writer/creator. Lin-Manuel is such a funny and chill guy, I would so go out an get a coffee with him

It's actually a repeating motif. The very first words in the movie are Abuela saying "Open your eyes" in both Spanish and English (the reverse of what she does here), and the line is used repeatedly throughout the movie both as a metaphor for receiving your gift and for the family understanding each other. In this case, it has finally tied all back together to the beginning and means BOTH - understanding your family AND recognizing your family IS the gift.

In fact, y'all, the whole movie does it throughout many things : Abuela & Mirabel say "ok ok ok" and "let's go" throughout various songs and dialog, and are the only 2 characters to address Casita. And in this song, each verse is a callback to each song (The Family Madrigal, in the constellations and stars and family verses...Bruno and Camillo call back to We Don't Talk About Bruno...etc...) and each character recites similar rhyme and rhythm to their own solo songs from this movie. I love how the whole movie is connected in plot and music with different styles.

The fact that when Augustin sings, "She takes after you", he has no bee stings anymore even though there's no magic healing food is supposed to be a hint that time is passing during the building of the new Casita - at least a few months. This is when they would actually do the hard work of starting to heal as a family.

Which can also lead to a potential "Encanto" tv series, like they did with "Tangled." In the few months it took them to rebuild Casita and get the magic back, there was still a big crack in the mountains that separated the town from the outside world. That's more than enough time for something from the outside to sneak in and get trapped after the magic is restored, leading to a new conflict. (And possibly new family members, if it takes place a few years later. At the very least, Dolores and Mariano's potential future child/children, and possibly maybe even Bruno getting married and having a child, even though he's in his 50s. (For some reason, in my head-canon, I imagine him eventually getting with the Fish Lady.)

I literally cried when I heard Mirabel's parents singing "Now see yourself in turn". It means that everyone in this family has recognized and acknowledged Mirabel's value, and it's time for her to embrace herself. I can relate so much. I've been trying very hard to get acknowledgement from my family, but still in vain.

I feel you, if it wasn't for my fiancé, I don't know where I'd be. He makes me feel so special, and after how I was treated and felt growing up, my self-esteem was almost non-existant, but he makes me see that I'm beautiful and unique. Also of note is that at 4:23, you hear Dolores get loud for the only time in the movie, since her hearing is at a normal human level at that point. Subtle detail, but amazing when you notice it.

I haven’t seen Hamilton yet but I really liked the semantics of shine vs. burn whether intentional or not. When things shine they reflect the light of something else, like everyone trying to be these personas that Abuela wants, versus something burning is emitting its own light, so by the end of Encanto the family members are being themselves and recognized for their own personalities.

My favorite fact about encanto is that in the Spanish version when Antonio talks about the door knob he says “it’s waiting here for you” to me that says that she all along was meant to have a door just casita or the magic wasn’t ready and knew Mirabel and the family had some growing to do before she could get her “door” I just really hope they make a sequel or something, I can’t get enough of encanto and I hope to see more of pepa’s side of the family in the future
