Went back and had a good look and I'm absolutely sure there's no lip syncing going on here. What we're seeing is more than one take of Floor singing, shot with a single camera (in colour on a tripod, B&W handheld) and then the clips are laid over a single audio track that was recorded from the mic. Hannes would be on the camera so this is very much a home production as it looks like they're in their own studio where Hannes keeps his drum kit. If they're using something like iMovie for the post production, then any syncing of the tracks is done by eye and ear. Final Cut Pro X has multicam capability which offers multiple methods of syncing and would permit a more precise syncing of the clips to the main audio track. Ideally for a shoot like this we would use multiple cameras, choose the best take, then sync the cameras using their audio tracks in post, to the master audio track. Then we could easily cut between the clips as needed. That method ensures perfect syncing. I've done this with as many as five cameras and it's not really a big deal to assemble and edit. When I shoot video outdoors with multiple cameras, I have to record a master audio track on a Zoom recorder as the audio from the cameras, even with external or wireless mics, is often crappy. It's not hard to do.

One thing about Floor, no matter where she is at in her range it is never off putting. Her tone is always warm and inviting. I cannot listen to Tarja her predecessor at Nightwish without the twinge in my ear for the tone she sings in. No problem with Floor.

I don't think she is lip syncing, rather there's two cameras going here and the one shooting the B&W footage is not perfectly synced to the audio. Watch the colour track and her vibrato matches her slight chin wobble perfectly, but when we're seeing the B&W angle, that camera is slightly out of sync, plus there's also some rolling shutter on that camera as well. One other possibility for this result, they used a single camera and shot one take on a tripod in colour then a second take handheld in B&W and used the audio track from the colour take. That is the most likely scenario to explain what we're seeing here.

I agree with you that she isn't lip syncing. I'm hard of hearing and like to think I'm a pro at lip reading. I can definitely tell when a singer is lip syncing and Floor isn't doing it in this video.

It also could be that it is a mixed and mastered Studio Version( wich i would think because of all the layers and so on), and when they filmed the Video for it she sang it too, they just didn't Take that sound. Or this was filmed while recording the main Vocals. And don't forget: lip syncing isn't bad or wrong for a Video and it is not an isult, everybody does it that way. Stay happy and healthy.

Floor is obviously singing in the video, but it makes sense that what we are hearing is a recording from a controlled studio. For the video the studio recording is likely playing, and Floor is singing to duplicate it.

Metal meets Disney: Tuomas Holopainen - Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge. Not metal, but music composed by the guy that is known for metal, Tuomas from Nightwish. Inspired by Scrooge McDuck comics by Don Rosa. A fantastic album, beautiful vocals by Tuomas' wife, Johanna Kurkela. For your own enjoyment I recommend the song "Glasgow 1877", for obvious reasons. For reactions "A Lifetime of Adventure", because of the music video.

What you said about certain frequencies jarring your ear is exactly what I mean when I say that I can appreciate certain singers being good but that I can't stand their singing/voice (Whitney is a perfect example, because besides not really being into her songs her voice grates on my ears. Yet she was a good singer. I really like Floor and she can sing certain songs in a way that makes me appreciate them even though I don't like them as much in their original form I simply enjoy her voice more.

If you've not heard Disney meets metal before, you need to check out Jonathan Young. I'd say his Prince of Egypt stuff is best but he has done a version of Let It Go, which seems to have more texture to it than Floor's rendition.

Floor recorded "the fight goes on" for a documentary called War Child in her own home. the song is in dutch. one version is the raw recording and the other is an overlay of multiple recordings. you can see that she did not lip sync. she doesn't need it :)

Lighting tip: the background lights are flickering a bit. That flicker reduces the resulting image quality because video compression algorithm wastes bits to reproduce the flickering. In addition, the flickering obviously doesn't look that good anyway.

Wonderful and interesting reaction! I absolutely agree with you style-wise. I don't like the original way of singing the highest notes in the original either. (Headache-y to me personally... Technically great ofc, but just... not for me.) Thanks, this is the best technical reaction I have seen yet. One question for you: as with other commenters below (Salt Efan and ChrisCrashNow), and a large number of other reviewers, they said the mix was bad and Floors voice was too low. I really don't notice it and I see you didn't mention it in your review either. I have two thoughts: 1) They may have been intentionally marketing it as a METAL version, and kept the background instruments (drums, etc.) high to emphasize this approach, and 2) I haven't heard what Floor's relationship to the musicians is, but even if she is paying them it can't be much. If you ask someone to help you record a song with their input, its kind of hard to then also say "Oh, and by the way, this is a song about vocals, so your part is going to be turned way down while my singing is going to be turned way up". But it sounded about the same mix to me that her voice is in her Nightwish songs. Do you think this is correct?

I also hated Let It Go but I had a professor that swore the Arabic version of the song was best and she was soo right. I would recommend a listen to it even if you don't understand it lol To be fair they do have a version with translation, transliteration, and arabic subs on them but worth a listen for sure. First and foremost, I accept your apology. At least you didn't break out into the American patriotic song "Over There." One of my favorite things about this video is that Floor isn't afraid to be a 39/40yr old on camera, and she looks lovely. Wish the mix was better. I'm sure she had a hand in it since it's her own release. Floor is the draw, I don't see why we have to search for her voice in parts of this. And since it's my own particular... um... (Idiom, sir?) Yes! Idiom! We need to talk about you hiding the plant behind the video... ;-)

I my personal opinion, the sound mixing could use a very minor toning down of the instrumental. Floor's voice is occationally toned down in the mixing, which I personally disagree with. The singing itself is of course, as always, impeccable!
