Trey is awesome, isn't he? He's been Mariah's backing vocal for nearly 30 years until today (they've been working together since her first album's promo tour). He tried going solo right after the time of this performance and Mariah gave support by writing songs for him and even singing backing vocals for one of his songs. You can see they really love each other.

I remember hearing, "Vision of Love", on the radio for the first time. It blew me away. When I heard Mariah's voice for the first time, it was as if I'd waited my whole life to hear her voice. Almost 30 years later now and I still feel the exact same way. Mariah is an extraordinary talent. Vintage Mariah was second to none. And her songwriting skills are among the best in the world. Been a fan from day 1. Enjoyed Mr. Henny's analysis of her performance.

Do you think that anyone could sing like Mariah? Or is there like a genetic link or predisposition? For example, I think it's 40% anatomical stuff (VC, larynx,...), 30% technique, 30% musicality and, in the case of Mariah) the bonus of being a gifted genious who can be the melody itself. What percentage would you say?
@revolutionishere5 жыл бұрын
Nobody can answer that question. However, her voice wouldn't be anything without her technique and musicality. Many people can sing, very few can sing healthily.

Daniel Nieto Gonzalez Nobody can sound EXACTLY like Mariah due to a phenomenon called a person’s idiodialect - the way they individually use language and speech. This is the reason why members of the same family may share some speech patterns and although they likely have very similar vocal tracts, they don’t sound perfectly alike. Many people like Katrina Velarde can get pretty close in terms of tone and ability. Anyone with vocal cords can sing to some degree, and you can hone those skills to become a great singer. Mariah is famous because she has such an incredible voice and is more talented than anyone attempting to emulate her. Short answer is yes, many people can do the same things with their voice that Mariah does, but nobody will do it exactly the same way. That’s what makes everyone’s voice so special.

Question: her F5's and E5's sound to me chestier than other singers. It doesn't sound mixed. I think that's why we do not hear her belting A5's and higher. Is it because she doesn't use mixing technique? Do you think the same?
@JohnHennyVocalStudio5 жыл бұрын
Mariah sings on slightly more open vowels, which creates a chestier resonance. Mix tends towards slightly more closed vowels, which can make higher notes easier. However, Mariah does a great job of not over-muscling this chesty belt.

I don't think so honestly. I also think a large part of why her voice deteriorated a bit was her pregnancy, lack of rest, her overall social habits. Same with Whitney actually. Really sad. Mariah should start taking care of her voice and take a longer vocal rest.

Pop Land I think it’s a side effect/coping mechanism because of her nodules. Most people with nodules have a very breathy raspy voice like her. She can go breathy very easily and she credits the ease of her whistle register to the nodules.

i'm not a singer but enjoyed your reaction. this really is a superb release - i just wish it was longer than 7 songs! it's a shame she doesn't (can't?) sing like this anymore, but i guess that's humanly impossible 25+ years down the line? she set the bar so high in the 90s, that much of her recent music is pretty disappointing in comparison. she still has a beautiful sounding voice, but it's very one-dimensional the manner in which she uses it now. a performance like this showcases all her different techniques and textures.
