I totally agree about Operation MINDCRIME. Back when it first came out I wasn't much of a Queensryche fan as they were too...I don't know, 'cheesy' for my thrash and hardcore punk loving self. Operation MINDCRIME was one of those albums that transcended those narrow tastes of mine with how excellent it was. It definitely should be experienced in it's entirety the first time.

You can check my (profile on fb) background and who and where I've been musically. I mean nothing compared to super stars like this but never the less plagued with some of the same problems . I did shows for months and there were some members of the band ya couldn't even approach and never said 2 words to. I'm sure I was a grouchy ass all the same . Then your will (I think Bad co. Spartan . I respect the fact we don't have the same views. If we all thought the same about music therewould be only one band .... I also didn't think much of Metallica before the Black lp. Don't care much for the Beatles, absolutely hate Nirvana. Love or hate or indifferent about me is an individual judgement call. I just happen to think , I would have missed out if not ever hearing the Operation Mindcrime lp. Genius. But it took all of them to write it . I haven't heard the news on present day Queensryche. But like , when I stumbled on to them when I was a kid, it was word of mouth . I some what take your word for it . Just knowing you have an opinion is enough for me . Thank you kind sir . And peace my brother....

The song is about lucid dreaming...the ability to recognize that you are dreaming without waking, which then allows you to control your dream. In the song, he’s telling a (his perhaps?) child that he doesn’t need to fear his nightmares, and that behind his fears lies an amazing realm of magic and possibility. “Even in your dreams, I can love you, protect you, and care for you. Let me show you how...” From my own experience, I can assure you that lucid dreaming is real. It’s an extraordinary experience, and when you think about it, occurs only in an extremely unusual state of mind. Glad you enjoyed the song.! It’s one of my favorites. :)

I always get "allergic" when something becomes immediately popular no matter how good it is(i just don't see it at the time), gotta give it some time before the appreciation comes(IF it comes..). I had this experience for example with Metallica's black album, it took hella decades before i got into it :D Not THAT great of an album as a whole though IMO(compared to ALL their previous records), but still very solid & amazing sound considering when it was produced.

"Someone you love leaving the game (of life)." Guitarist Chris DeGarmo wrote this song and plays the acoustic guitar at the beginning of the video, then Michael Wilton plays the acoustic guitar while Chris plays that heart wrenching solo on the double neck guitar, and then Chris winds up back on acoustic guitar at the end. The late great conductor/arranger Michael Kamen was responsible for the beautiful orchestration here as well. Still brings the tears for me. Touches my heart.

So, Geoff had bullied the songwriting into a large garbage patch. He even dictated an unfortunate sequel to Operation: Mindcrime. After another 6 years of really bad albums and some Tate Family skulduggery, the band chucked him out. His former son-in-law is now a guitarist and the new singer, Todd LaTorre, can sing all the things Tate no longer can. Queensryche’s last three Geoff-Tate-less albums are absolutely fantastic!

It is assumed to be based on the subject of lucid dreaming. During the middle eight, a distorted voice even explains a method for this: "Visualize your dream. Record it in the present tense. Put it into a permanent form. If you persist in your efforts, you can achieve dream control." [4] The song was recorded with sweeping orchestrations. Often the orchestra is not relegated to the background but instead is very prominent such as during the second half of the instrumental section (timestamp 3:16 - 3:51). At the end of the song (5:26), a cello or double bass plays the theme from the traditional Brahms' Lullaby - the typical English translation words being "Lullaby, and good night, go to sleep little baby".

I’ve actually done this. Of right before you go to bed and close your eyes, try to look down and visualize looking at your hands, any jewelry and wristbands you should pay close attention to their configuration. One time I thought I had my rings on and in the dream all i had was black rings over where my rings would have been but before I really wasn’t wearing any to bed and only thought it did they appeared “blacked out” I woke up and didn’t have them on after all. My brain made them up, and also mine always start off on a path with a brick wall with vines and draping leaves cascading for what seams like forever into the distance. Point is I can remember the dream when I wake up and if I stay lucid can go right back in where it left off after I’d awoken.

Aerosmith, Motley and Bon Jovi used the same studio. The mixing console and mic pre amps were absolutely amazing. The Vancouver studio was on par with Sound City and the Sunset Sound. Also, the production and engineering was also top notch. What you have here are several elements all coming together. They caught lightening in a bottle.

This isn't a Rock Ballad; It's a Timeless Rock Lullaby. 7:01 The reason why that part was so soothing to you is because it's quite similar to the notes used in the "Lullaby" song. It was a very soft and touching end and a nod to all those who have ever sung a lullaby to a precious child.

Hopefully this doesn't get lost in the comments. But let me tell you I truly love the way you break down the vocals in music. I'm so sick, and yes I'll get flak for it, all the autotune out there helping people. I so love the music that was around before autotune because you could hear the artists natural voice. Even if it wasn't perfect live, it was "their" voice you heard. Subbed and will continue watching your new and older vids.

Even though this song was hugely overplayed in 1990 on (E)M(P)TV, it still remains a beautiful song to this day. Better than what we're being subjected to these days in the mainstream, for damned sure. Positive and lovely/loving lyrics, too, another thing we don't hear enough of. Geoff in his prime could do no wrong, for sure.

Not to get too corny..but.. This is one of my favorite songs ever. I just turned 51 years old so I can say that after having heard a few. It's been almost impossible for me to listen to it because of the lyrics for almost eight years now. My first granddaughter passed away from a birth defect, fifteen months after she was born. Watching this with you let me listen to it again without descending very deeply into sadness. Thank you for doing this video.

Pamela Moore is an awesome addition to the song. Her and Geoff honed in their styles from none other, David Kyle. Both have great chemistry in this song and had literally given me shivers the first time I heard it. So much that I had to rewind the tape at least 15 to 20 times. Not only for the storyline, but the melody is so haunting that you can't just listen to it once and then off to the next song. It had me that hooked. Good song choice.

This album defined my senior year in high school. Got me through couple rough patches culminating in the live show in May of 1991 in Madison, WI where they filmed the show for Operation: Livecrime ... watch Suite Sister Mary from that show. Also, Michael Kamen wrote the orchestration for this. He also wrote orchestration for Metallica and the score for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

If you ever have 60-80 minutes to kill, the entire Operation Mindcrime album is just a masterpiece. It's probably the greatest theme album ever recorded with a very compelling story about political intrigue, drug addiction, murder and loss. It is astonishing on a musical level and the highs and lows from song to song (telling an amazing story) will leave you completely wrung out by the end. Better than most movies you'll see.

Ahhh….in my family, I'm the one who put my nephews and nieces down for the night because I was the only one who could get them to sleep. My secret was singing this song to them ;) A few useless facts about Geoff and this song: - When it first came out, people would call radio stations asking to hear the new Pink Floyd song, not knowing it (who) was Queensryche - Geoff, I'm sure someone has mentioned to you here at some point, was classically trained. Unfortunately, because he was (is?) a smoker, he's since lost much of that vocal magic - This video was nominated for 5 MTV VMA's in 1991. They lost 4 out of the 5 awards, but ironically the one award they DID win was the Viewer's Choice Award for Best Video - That night, they performed Silent Lucidity live for the first time with the actual orchestra who recorded the studio version. You can find the performance here on KZbin - Michael Kamen, who would go on to lead the National Philharmonic, conducted the orchestration for the album version of the song - The final cello notes that close out the song are actually taken from Brahms 'Lullaby' - Queensryche performed on MTV's Unplugged in 1992, and it was one of their best performances ever. They did 'Silent Lucidity' among others, but my favorite performance of the night was the stripped down acoustic version of 'The Killing Words.' If you ever want to hear a great example of Geoff's vocal range live, I HIGHLY recommend you look up this performance. They did 6 songs total, 5 making the final edit. The one that got cut was an interesting version of 'Scarborough Faire' LOVE your vids! Keep it up :)
