Challenge for everyone. I heard this before the radio did. I've met them. They used to be my favorite group. The challenge is, listen to this again, hear everything, but pay extra special attention to the strings, especially during the instrument break. If you don't feel the build up, feel the strength, and shed some tears at the peak, your not human. I'm 52 and still do

Major shame DeGarmo pretty much retired very long ago, dude is a kickass musician and songwriter. Only time I ever see him pop up these days is occasionally like playing additional guitar for an AIC song or playing with Chris Cornell’s daughter at the Alice In Chains tribute show. Pretty sure the last time he toured was for Jerry Cantrell’s boggy depot record which came out 25 years ago. Good on him for just living the quiet live with his family tho but I wish he stayed active as a musician because he’s so talented

Another song that really exemplies Geoff's voice is Roads to Madness from the album "The Warning". Sadly, not many people have reacted to it even though it is one of the best male vocal performances ever. I definitely recommend it! I've seen Tate with his own band live in concert as well as Queensryche multiple times over the past few years.

I'm glad people are steering you to great rock songs and groups. I think this is a really good composition, coming back to the opening theme in the middle and at the end, and an effective use of a string ensemble. The cellos, violins, violas, and the acoustic guitar at the end are just wonderful.

Loved Queensryche when I was in high school. Great song and I learned to play it on guitar. Beautiful. Would love, love, to see your reaction to Portishead, specifically, "Portishead Glory Box Live At Roseland NY ( Best Audio)". That band (Portishead) were so popular and made amazing music and that live recording was from 1998. I learned recently the lead singer Beth Gibbons performed Symphony No. 3 by Henryk Górecki a few years ago. That is one of my favorites (Gorecki).

This is one of my all time favorite songs. I understand how you could feel like listening to it before you go to sleep. This came out when I was about 14 and I could only afford the single (cassette, haha) on the money from my after-school job, but that is exactly what I would do-I’d lay in bed and listen to it over and over on my Walkman. Eventually I listened to it so much the actual tape part of the cassette got worn out and snapped. I’m glad you liked it!

And yes, indeed, here is one of the best and most beautiful power ballads of all time, in my view and for many other music fans. You definitely picked up on just what a well-composed song it is- all of the varied instrumentation and arrangements. And Geoff is very much singing lower and more restrained, but of course that fits the song. I felt pretty sure you would enjoy and like it. Given how incredible it is, it’s so easy to be moved by its overall beauty.

Sweet reaction. Another thing about this song is the timing in dynamics, when he sings the lyrics "come tumbling down and a new world will begin" the drummer adds a drum fill descending from high to low mimicking something collapsing, perhaps relative to the walls in the fore mentioned line "the walls you built within".

Geoff Tate (vocals) of Queensryche recorded his best vocal performances between 1983 and 1999... 'Silent lucidity' was their big hit single from their 1990 album 'Empire'... Another ballad from the record w/ Tate's powerful vocals was 'Anybody listening?' (full audio version). Former Queensryche guitarist/ songwriter Chris DeGarmo wrote 'Silent lucidity' about dreams to his young daughter... They had an orchestra on the track, conducted by (the late) classical composer Michael Kamen, who would later work w/ Metallica on their single 'Nothing else matters' in 1991 and conducted their 1999 'S&M' live performance w/ a full classical symphony orchestra. Another ballad on which Queensryche added orchestral strings was the 1993 song 'Real world' (for a movie soundtrack). Although established in the 80's as a hard rock/ heavy metal band... Queensryche opted to progress their music in the 90's... their 1994 album 'Promised Land' was a mostly acoustic record ... w/ Geoff Tate singing his most heartbreaking songs ('Promised land'... 'Bridge'... 'Someone else'... 'Lady Jane'...)

QUEENSRYCHE: SILENT LUCIDITY: What I love about true artists is that you can’t fit them into one clear box. I love when people discover that the same group that brought you Into the Eyes of a Stranger also can switch it up entirely and level you with Silent Lucidity. That’s the power and palette of an incredible artist such as Queensryche and the vocal performance of Geoff Tate in particular! Enjoy!

Great track, their biggest FM hit though much more chill than much of what they produced with the original lineup in the 80s & 90s. They were equal measures hard rock, prog and metal and were one of the most impressive and polished bands of that genre. Their Masterpiece is Operation Mindcrime, a concept album that should be heard in a single sitting, it is up their with Pink Floyd and the WHO for great, Ikonic concept albums. For another stand alone epic, try On the Roads to Madness from their great debut album, Warning. Another fine album is Empire, try Jet City Woman, a hit and a banger for sure. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶

I'd love to see her reaction to the whole "Operation: Mindcrime" album (the first one, obviously). That might be a bit much to hope for, that's a deep dive few reactors are up to. The nice thing about it is real first time using a blue room and screen and having each band member come in and record all rhe way sepetately and like a film editor putting together the best shots for the music video. Scott Rockinfield started the band the drummer his Tama kit here i had mine when i was tourning drummer i has his spek measurnments and set up copied so i could set mine up very similiarly. Queensryche was a progrock band progressive rock which along Rush and Pink Floyd and they formed out of that Seattle Washington area. They had several albums in the 80s and really peaked here with Building Empires album i was a fan from Queen of the Ryche up til Empire album not so much after.

You need to hear Heart & Jason Bonham perform "Stairway to Heaven" from the Kennedy Center Honors. It's is THE best live performance I have ever heard.

Reaction recommendation: Queensryche “Suite Sister Mary” from Operation Livecrime. It’s got a background choir and a duet. I’d love to know what you think!

Although you will not find another voice as good as Geoff Tate, Have you listened it to Skid Row yet? Sebastian Bach also has an amazing voice. And he was pretty easy on the eyes as well.. Oh and also! Janie Layne of Warrant. "Uncle toms cabin" is fun! And ""I saw red" is beautiful.

To me, this is Queensryches best song. It was really a breakthrough for them. I always thought that they were strongly influenced by Pink Floyd. If you haven`t gone down that rabbit hole, I highly recommend it. The title track, Echos, from the album Echos is one of my favorite pieces from Floyd. But it is over 20 minutes long, so it would be a long reaction. Hahaha. But any song ,or all of their album Dark Side of the Moon is a great place to start. The album was released in 1973 and is STILL on the charts today. More than worth a listen.

One song I would really suggest you check out, is Heart’s version of Stairway To Heaven, which is done live, at the Kennedy Center Honors, honoring Led Zeppelin. Heart is comprised of two sisters, Ann and Nancy Wilson. Ann is considered to be probably the best female rock singer ever. Their version is so good, at one point, Robert Plant (the singer of Led Zeppelin) begins to cry. It should not be missed.

Geoff, pronounced Jeff...Love seeing your reaction to Mr. Tate...One of the best. Saw Queensryche in Vancouver BC, many moons ago, promoting Operation Mindcrime. Wicked concert. A reaction to Operation Livecrime, the live version of the album would be spectacular. You won't believe how fantastic his vocals are, live.
