Mariah has been a great singer in the 90s but now she lost a lot of her vocal abilities and she just doesn't sound always great. She just hasn't been able to maintain the same vocal control through her 30s and 40s. On the other hand Celine has just gotten better and better over time

Mariah doesn’t oversing. When she uses her runs, she does to compliment the style of the song. And it’s pleasant. Celine doesn’t have half the amount of musicality that Mariah has plus Mariah sounds better overall.

Mariah has the gift of musicality. She uses runs as embellishments, to fill in gaps, to keep the listener's attention, wow factor ect. Her doing runs in every song is not oversinging. Celine belt's every single song but I don't see you saying anything about that? Celine's belts are her wow factor and Mariah's whistles runs and riffs are her wow factors. I wouldn't say either overusing. They're just highlighting their strengths.

Honest technical analysis: Insane resonance and natural reverberation. Amazing control of her dynamics. Perfect control of her vibrato's speed. Perfect transition between her registers. Incredible power. Her diction is really great (and she's not even a native English speaker - Ariana, if you hear me...). Slight rasp sometimes on her belts which adds a more dramatic / out of this world effect. Even though she wasn't particularly mean on the technical aspect (how can she, as a vocal coach and knows damn well Celine has a crazy technique with a very unique sound), her lack of enthusiasm is quite telling

I literally don't know what she's saying! No idea! Well, she was speaking French so. Celine doesn't show off every time. I Can't Help Falling In Love With You isn't her song. Can't help falling in love was not over riffed. You would need to watch the full performance to see that. She has just integrated her style to it. This video you watched is about vocals that 'had me shook' . you are supposed to be analyzing the vocals. You have not watched the whole performance of it so you cannot judge it the way you just did. Im just so confused. Nevertheless nice video . What do you mean you don't know why she's ' holding all the notes'? These aren't full performance clips. Its supposed to be a few seconds of vocals that are amazing. Of course she is either going to sustain notes with amazing resonance or she is going to riff something. What were you expecting? Same goes for that Phelps video you mentioned. Of course he would hold notes. Thats literally the title of the video? resonant high notes... ufffff

The riffinf in falling in love with you didnt work for you maybe but it worked for the rest of the world! Your comments sometimes makes me question your authenticity as a vocal coach and also sometimes come off as jelous or envious cause you cant hit the samenotes or are as technical as the singers you are reviewing! IT seems you only give good feedback on singers or styles that you like and can do for yourself! If the style is out of your repertoire or singing range or genre than you automatically dislike it! The run celine did in falling in love is worldwide extremely famous and known and then you go and say you didnt like itè You are all alone in this satement! And bytw you need to learn to keep your own personal feelings to yourself as vocal coach! People come to ypou for proff advice and technique not singing tastes!!!!!! You should be giving as objective as possible adivce and feedback! You seem to dsilikeanything that is pwoerful, belted, high or whistle or long notes or passionate growling! I think you should also know that the low quality sound has a huge effect to the voice we’re hearing on this video. Like it sounded so mono. By watching you react. I think you like the wider sound like in “Je Sais Pas 2008” part where it was shot by a fancam the sounds were more open/wide which we can hear more resonance because of the arena reverb effect. A vocal coach should react to the sound quality if it's bad don't react to that performance (vocal coaches should know that) because.... Bad sound quality = bad reaction

Watched her for the first time when she reviewed and scored the "Vocal Trinity", Celine, Mariah and Whitney. Although all 3 of these ladies are my fav all time singers i was surprised at tue scoring of some of the notes. Some notes where Celine lost out to Mariah and Whitney and vice-a -versa. I found it odd as on some of those notes i would have either given it to Celine but it went to one of the other 2. Now watching THIS review, i am convinced that her findings are subjective and she just does not like Celine's singing style, compared to maybe Whitney or Mariah. But its okay. Celine is not sweating it! Still selling out sold out shows accross the world....

I think one of my comments was deleted so I will post it again.. I actually do like your reactions.. you're not afraid to call something out when you find it not on par. But I do feel you let your tastes sometimes decide what is good instead of focusing on what they are doing right. I never heard you mention Celine's agility, power, pitch-perfect way to hold and sustain notes without a wobble.. Maybe you don't like that but other people do so you can always give your view but also bring the technical side of what she is doing right... I can't help falling in love that's up to taste... I understand what you're saying as it is a very sweet song... But for the version, she made a bluesier rock version the runs etc where great... But I understand your point.. just keep reacting.

Her accent is what makes her stand out and what we've known her for. The video title is "vocals that had me shook" not the "subtle intrinsic profoundly understated and subdued emotional lick that had me sob and gasp for air".... Its all about vocal show-off... Having said that I do agree that there are far better examples. But to say that she didn't really land on the note in a crazy crescendo performing live in her fifties after 35 years of active career is a bit of a nit picking don't you think? It's ok, she obviously is not your cup of tea, I get it. Really...it is not my intention to sound belittling or derogatory in any way but your recordings really don't sound all that vocally stern... I mean its all rather pitch accurate and dynamically cohesive, but still, rather vanilla... Simply ok. But nothing more. I advise that you lead by example and have your performances vocally criticized by a peer vocal coach? How about that? I think it's a wonderful idea. If you are interested I have a couple of very good and objective coaches to suggest. Keep up there! Best, Nihad.

Did she not say several times that these are definitely not Celine's best vocal clips? Her stating that shows an obvious defense and respect for Celine as an artist and vocalist. Subjectively she did just say if you're picking a song to show off on, pick a song that is made for vocal gymnastics and go all the way with it. If you're going to do a woeful ballad, do a woeful ballad. Don't half ass it. Sorry, but if I'm going to show off my vocals I'm not going to pick " The itsy bitsy spider " , pick something that fits.

@@iTeacupPanda Yes, you're defending the coach now. I disagree in that these are merely the climaxes of songs that otherwise simply build up to them... Its not as if the entire songs are revamped and desecrated only to serve the purpose of demonstrating vocal abilities... You can surely dislike the tonal quality and even musicality to an extent of an artistic preference... But such an underwhelming review of someone who can surely sing rather superbly and who nurtured their craft and an instrument is somehow meh... I wonder how come that her reviews of Mariah's performances, even the recent ones, are so favorable even when it's painfully obvious that thee voice is gone... I'm just saying that it doesn't seem professional to sound that much biased. Am I subjective? Sure... But then, I do not call myself a vocal coach who claims to be doing professional unbiased reviews of vocal performances... Or maybe it's just that her bar is set quite high for Celine as opposed to the other artists... :) Nah.... Not buying it :)

Terrible in so many ways. Your reaction and the clips were out of sync. You are reacting to "Vocals that had me shook" and talking about over singing and showing off too much? Really? Half of the clips you watched were in French. What accent improvement are you talking about? You didn't understand "Je sais pas"? I don't even speak French but that was crystal clear. You completely missed a lot of technically savage moments. Why? What's the point of the reaction then? To show your expressionless face? Edit: OMG! I just listened to your version of "This is me". Even though you ditched all the high parts you were still pitchy and anything that went out of your speaking range caused problems for you. And that was a prerecorded track you thought was good to record a video to! Unbelievable!

@@HonestVocalCoach Honesty? Your vowel modification is bad, your mouth shape and placement is poor. You don't know how to access your head voice. If I had to guess what's going on in your mouth, your soft palette isn't lifted, your tongue is placed back in your throat. That's because you keep spreading instead of dropping your jaw to produce artificial brightness like you encourage others to do in your "smile" video, and like I've seen multiple videos of your students do. This results in dulled flat tones, even if you are close to the pitch. It removes access to your natural resonators and over amplifies higher frequency tones at the cost of mid and low frequencies. This removes a lot of the natural depth and projection power from notes. You tend to wobble your jaw when you use vibrato, but I've never seen you use vibrato above your first bridge. This is likely because you have a poor mix. You need to work on your head voice. You need to work on your breath support(you tend to push from the throat to get more sound, but that dulls the tone and removes a lot of freedom-so no vibrato-and control of your voice), because you have limited vocal dynamics. Pick exercises that strengthen your diaphragm and that strengthen your head voice, and then work on mixing head and chest dynamically in your mid range(F4-F5 most likely). That should clear your tone, give you *natural* brightness and lightness, give you much more dynamic control, and deepen your resonance. Start with vowel/mouth shape (Ah, Eh, Ee, Oh, Oo) practice on a scale like they teach for basics, and go from there. Best of Luck.

I think that what people fail to notice is that singers don't only sing, but they also PERFORM, they tell a story. You cant judge a full song by only listening to the peak of the song. Celine is the Goddess of Ballades because she puts meaning and effort in all her songs and most of her songs has got low mellow starts and high ends . Also, pick one vocalist who can pull off what Celine does and then compare. The only thing I can fault Celine on is the fact that she makes it all look easy, try singing her songs holding all notes properly and changing between head voice and chest voice when she does, then judge. BTW your face when Celine belted out the note in "where does my heart beat now" is priceless.
