The band members have spent 8 long weeks performing all the songs in private wear these special suits that they can then create the ‘younger abba’ digitally. I think they are referred to as ‘avatars’. They’re even building a brand new arena in London especially to put on the show. It’s gonna b like going to an actual concert with half the audience seated & half standing, so plenty of room for dancing!!! It actually sounds like it’s gonna be a real experience but I suppose nobody really knows because it’s never been done before. I am a massive ABBA fan since 1974 in Brighton & I knew this would be happening, albeit delayed because of the pandemic, & obviously looking forward to some new music but when yesterday actually arrived & the first 2 songs were released, I even surprised myself by how excited I was & I actually got goosebumps when I heard the girls voices. Plus, after hearing lots about it, we saw the 1st glimpse of the ‘avatars’. I expected the new stuff & the upcoming concerts to be great, I mean they always do good things, they don’t need to do it for the money, so they only have to do things they are happy with. When ‘mamma mia’ first came to the stage people were saying it was ‘cheesy & gimmicky etc’ but look at how many people all over the world saw it & then the unbelievable success of the film which when released on DVD smashed all records. It seems now that it’s ok to admit you love ABBA, with many famous musicians,in all genre’s, admitting their appreciation of abba’s music, which hasn’t always been the case & I feel this time that they’re just gonna be embraced openly by everybody as well as all those new fans, people/kids that have grown up loving mamma Mia but weren’t actually around when ABBA were in their pomp the 1st time around. I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEW ALBUM & THE NEW SHOW ( a great way to help get over the last 18 mths we’ve experienced!!)

It is motion capture of their own performances with de-aged digital avitars performing new songs (and in the concerts some classics). They did the motion capture peformances in a private studio with 100+ cameras monitoring their moves from different angles. They used loads of staff from ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) the famous special effects company. I don't mind saying as a 51yr old man, that I cried when I saw digital Frida from the 70's singing a new song. Her voice still sounds so rich & emotional. The 2nd song with Agnetha singing the main focals is from the point of view of the avitars, "in this new form", "I've been reloaded" and all that. It's like a digital new life for them.

Both songs are fabulous. One more catchy, another more theatrical. I will never understand why Frida is the least valued and everyone goes with Agnetha. Any true ABBA fan, who has listened to the entire discography, knows that, objectively, many of the best songs are precisely sung by Frida. "I wonder", "Like an angel passing through my room", "The visitors", "I let the music speak", "Fernando", among others, are masterpieces sung by Frida. Her voice is magical and captivating. I love them both equally, the songs and the performers, but it always gives me a weird feeling when Frida is not given all the credit she deserves. A lot of singers today would like to achieve Frida's low tones. Fortunately for them, there is the autotune. Frida ❤️
@Miranda-od2mq3 жыл бұрын
Agree totally with you! Fridas warmth in her voice, velvetness and the deepness of low tones and still she's able to go very high, she just doesn't get the opportunity often enough. Thank you for mentioning how we can hear the richness and age in Frida's voice, but not making it a negative thing. Clearly, she still has enormous control and technique--I mean, the vibrato, yes, but her range as well. Those are some Karen Carpenter level alto notes she's pulling off. And Agentha's phrasing during "Don't Shut Me Down" is SO her--she was always an excellent storyteller and loved to emote. She's still got it. "I Still Have Faith In You" is Abba's love song to each other. "Don't Shut Me Down" is their love song to us, the fans. Forty+ years later, "I'm begging you have an open mind". Maybe they missed us, too.

I‘m so in love with their new music! I can’t wait for the album to come out. I‘ve been a massive ABBA fan my whole life, even though they‘ve split long before I was born. Throughout my childhood I‘ve always dreamed of going to an ABBA concert, but my parents told me that this was never gonna happen. So here we are now 2021… seems like dreams do come true sometimes ☺️

I've been cumulating emotions since the moment the songs were released and I don't know why, but it happened while watching your reaction: I bursted into tears. Your reaction was sweet. They recorded the songs, they recorded the movements all done up in leotards and bobbles attached on a green screen, they recorded the faces with marks on and they eyes. All done by ILM who do Star Wars, etc. It’s really them, just youngified. It let them spread it over weeks instead of hours, edit it, shoot from any angle, add effects, light, etc. It’s not perfect but you need to think it will be seen at a distance and they will use light to blend the artificial and the real. It should look ok in real life, plus it will be 3D. I love the music, one slower track, the other a complete bop! So exciting and very moving.

I grew up with ABBA, so I'm very happy to hear them again. The sound is the same as the ABBA of the 70s and the 80s. I'm not sure how I feel about them "youngfying" themselves though; Every one knows and accepts that they've aged. All of their fans have aged. I think it would be better to present themselves in concert as their true selves.

It's called "motion capture". It's the same technology as was used to recreate Sir Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: Rogue One.

I've got tickets for me and my daughter .. this is going to be jaw dropping .. yes they are not performing live and they're not actually on stage in real life .. but in away I'm so happy that we will be seeing them in their prime .. just like being back in 1979 .. it's going to be an epic experience for sure .. the new songs are outstanding more than I ever dreamed they would be .. nearly 40 years since abba had a album out .. never ever thought I'd see this moment in time arrive .. proper music in this current world of absoloute drivel ..

ABBA were, are and will always be AMAZING! I LOVE the new songs and can't wait for the album. Just wish they had done this years ago so we could have even more music from them. Agnetha and Frida just have beautiful voices that don't need tweaking with modern technology. They can really sing and they blend together beautifully....they give me goosebumps with their magical voices.

I can't listen to I still have faith in you without crying, lifelong fan of Abba. This is a jewel in a rotten year. Bjorn said when he heard the melody with Benny that he knew it had to be about them. They used motion capture suits on and filmed their own body movements doing every song over five weeks. Agnetha had dreadful flying phobia and performance anxiety but it appears the lyrics are saying she can now handle doing a concert in this format. 'Ive learned to cope, in live and hope ..'

I love Don‘t Shut Me Down. It has all the elements of a classic ABBA song, like the catchy music and moment-in-time storytelling in the lyrics. What really caught my attention was how they‘ve used current expressions in the lyrics (i mean, people didn‘t say „fired up“ and „shut me down“ in the 70s, did they?). They were strange to hear in the ABBA context at first, but it has grown on me.

I LOVE ABBA!!! at 52 - I vaguely remeber them winning The European Song Contest in Birmingham '74, but with Arrival '76 I was hooked, and have been ever since. They have been singing every part of my life through their songs. When I found they were to release new songs - I was worried that they might use a DJ or trying to be something more and perhaps loosing the sound of ABBA - and I was concerned how the aging of the voices would affect the final result and quality of songs. BUT ......YES!!!!! they remained true to themselves and the original sound. SO NICE to have them back - at least for a while. I love it. I love how the voices have matured. THEY ARE BACK - and they're filling a huge gap in music that has been lost for a while. They still have IT

I don't think the fact it sounds like Lloyd Webber is a great compliment! He writes very obvious cliched music purposefully to appeal to huge audiences, but the quality is not great, and the result is often very bland.

I don't know - to me, the ABBAtars look like something out of Shrek. And, what is wrong with the way they look now? I am now 56, and started being a fan of theirs when I was 11 and first heard the radio singles from the Arrival album. I look differently now than I did in 1979 too...
@thomasa.2433 жыл бұрын
Yes, the technology is called Motion Capture or Performance Capture depending on whether you only look at the body or the body including the facial expressions. Quite an advanced technology that was used e.g. for Lord Voldemort, Gollum or Jar Jar Bings as well as in Polar Express. Interestingly enough, it can make the animation look more unrealistic compared to standard animation because you are close to the real human motion yet still far away in terms of the outcome from a real face (i.e. the animation is too perfect to be real 🙈).

I love ABBA!! I grew up to their music through out my whole childhood and adolescent life. I knew they would be back. But didn't expected these 2 songs be a hit already and not out to the World!! They are NOT forgotten. I think they think we have forgotten about them. When actually they are always present when the radio play their old songs. Just like it was yesterday. I am looking forward to see them on tour and hope to meet them. And maybe tell them my childhood memories from some of their old song. Welcome back ABBA!!

The very high backing vocals in Don‘t Shut Me Down are amazing. These ladies are in their seventies and yet they still manage to hit these notes and create this magical high pitched sound in a few places here as if no time had passed. You can hear they’ve aged when listening to the lead vocals. But the harmonies are 70s ABBA.
