You are right, this IS her style. Her talent goes way beyond a chameleon. You nailed it, she has mastery of breath control. Jazz, and the related soulful Blues, and R & B, are her genres but has sung in other styles, in jazzy ways. She can sing pop, but her voice is meant for greater things, as heard here. She has many vocal gifts but only uses what best conveys the meaning and emotion of the song. She doesn't overdo the vocal gymnastics like many of the current pop divas.

Thank you for your genuine reaction. Here is an introduction to Angelina for you and your viewers who might not be familiar with her. Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. A year later she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and showed lot of interest in artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong. Angelina pestered her mother to enter her in “Simons Show” as she called it from the age of 3. Her mother relented and entered her in Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 where she auditioned with Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She went ahead to win the the big prize at the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. Angelina said she likes singing because she wants to bring joy and love to the whole world. One of her dreams from a very young age was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She accomplished that at the age of 8 singing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. After winning NGT, she was flooded with offers from major music labels as well as Disney but they were all turned down by her and her family in order for her to continue her education and to protect her artistic integrity. Her uncle/manager in an interview last year he talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down. Angelina is fluent in Norwegian as well as in English. She also speaks some Swedish which is very close to Norwegian and probably learned it from her father. She also speaks Farsi which she learned from her grandmother as well as some Japanese that she picked up from her grandfather as well as her mom and uncle who lived for a period of time in Japan. She actually performed a Japanese song at a concert in Japan. Most of her performances after NGT were for charitable children organizations where she helped to raise millions. At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities. Angelina Jordan has about 140 songs in her repertoire. Late last year she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her versatility is unmatched. FYI - She does her arrangements. I suggest see her in BEAST mode to get an idea of what your dealing with. I Put a spell on You, the black and white version, at 9 years old. Then all 4 songs, in order, on Norway's Got Talent 2014 at 7 and 8 years old. Some reactors do all 4 in 1 reaction, which works because you can see her progression from start to finish.

Thanks for the reaction, Jennifer. I'll give you a word of caution. You've fallen into a trap if you think this is her style. Angelina is incredibly versatile. She has many voices and many styles. While jazz is her first love, she's very comfortable and proficient singing jazz, blues, R&B, rock, pop, gospel, classical and even a bit of EDM. If you continue your Angelina Jordan journey, I'll just say, "Buckle up and enjoy the ride," because she will surprise and amaze you at every turn.

All voice coaches are blown away by her breath control, phrasing, tone, low notes, vibrato, vocal fry & emotive skills. She can sing any style or genre of music & she does all her own arrangements. She has covered over 130 iconic songs by former & current legends & most are as good or better than the originals, IMO. She has 7 original songs, 5 written by her & 2 written specifically for her to sing. She has an album of originals waiting to drop when she can promote it with concerts. She is a junior in High School now & her family wants her to graduate before they & her record label (Republic Records of UMG) let her blow up the record industry. All of her arrangements of her dozens of covers (and which covers!) And of her beautiful original songs are created by her, from the age of 6 she has the ability to absorb and reconstruct all kinds of songs and genres she likes. Angelina gas been singing since the age of 2 and has a strong jazz influenced background ! She won Norway's Got Talent at 8 and her 4 songs from that show were absolutely amazing ! She has done well over 130 covers of 75 different artists KZbin and has original songs that she now producing ! As you will see she manages to each cover her own with her unique style! I would hardily recommend her rendition of "I Put a Spell on You " black and white studio version at 9 yrs old that will blow your socks off ! Jennifer many thanks for reacting and analyzing Angelina Jordan's genius arrangement and performance of one of the world's most popular songs, Bohemian Rhapsody. Angelina is a true music prodigy but blessed with a set of skills unlike any before her. As talented as Angelina is, she is an even better human being, humble and filled with empathy. Please take the time to read the biography I compiled for my all time favorite musical artist. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on KZbin. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training starting around age 4. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 or 7 year old. Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on KZbin recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.” At age 8, (please refer to replies by erik to a comment I made on JHTreacts video on 6/7/21 who provides proof Angelina had already turned 8) Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. The next performance on NGT was her cover of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZbin went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. On June 27, 2018 Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. Angelina performed on America’s Got Talent The Champions which aired in January 2020. She earned the Golden Buzzer for her performance of her unique arrangement of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. She sang her cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in the Finals but didn’t make it into the final 5 contestants. There is much debate over how and why Angelina was eliminated. Angelina has covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, all of which are available on KZbin. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On KZbin, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as a fan put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. In August 2020, her manager and uncle Michael Astar announced Angelina has signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. On 11/6/20 her first single on Republic Records, Million Miles written by Angelina, was released. She dedicated it to anyone who has lost a loved one. Her 2nd single, 7th Heaven is a jazzy, upbeat, inspirational song and was also written by Angelina. Angelina’s family requested Republic Records to allow her to have as normal a childhood as possible. This is why Republic Records has not promoted her first two singles. Angelina Jordan is a humble, compassionate young lady of very few words when she is not singing. She is on videos saying she wants to sing for the entire world and also that she wants to improve the quality of life for all the children on Earth. She has helped to raise millions of dollars for children’s charities and environmental causes. Musicians who have worked with her have been quoted saying Angelina is among the most talented musicians they have worked with and she is the boss in the room when rehearsing. Remarkable for a girl of few words when not singing. For Angelina, it is all about the music and not her. Personally, I find Angelina’s voice the most soulful and emotional voice of my lifetime. Angelina as a person, inspires me to be a better person and live longer to listen to her sing for as long as I can.

It really is an amazing arrangement, which was done by Angelina herself. As mesmerizing as this performance is, it pales in comparison to her recording of I Put A Spell On You, done when she was nine years old. I highly recommend the black & white music video version, which visually suits her performance perfectly. Great reaction!

I envy your journey of discovery with Angelina. Gloomy Sunday NGT is a great starting place (if you are not familiar with Billie Holiday's version I recommend listening to that first as it will give you an insight as to how she went from an impressionist, my humble opinion, to a singer with her own feeling today). You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (135+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 7/8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday , Nancy Sinatra , and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Micheal Jackson to Etta James to Frank Sinatra to Amy Winehouse (and many others in between) and do them all justice! If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40 piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come. Wait until you find out why she performs barefooted. Great first reaction. I’m over two years now watching everything she does and still can’t get enough. I can hardly wait for each new cover, each new original, and each new reaction. Angelina has a largely adult/ older fan base currently due in part because of her song choices and delivery technics. She has however delved into quite a few newer songs with her own added “jazzy-pop” flavor. Please continue to respond to more of AJ’s performances in any order you choose. You can’t pick s bad one.

An important thing to remember about AJ is that she refused to sign for a record deal through AGT and they relented and invited her to sing anyway. 2. AJ is currently signed with Republic Records. 3. AJ began singing at 18 months. Her grandmother was a jazz/blues fan and played that genre of music for AJ. She fell in love with it very early on and has even arranged most if not all that she sings from age 8. What an incredible talent. 4. Currently in 2022 she is in her mid-teenage years, stands 6 foot tall and still performs barefoot. The backstory of her encounter with the homeless girl she met while she traveled with her family through Iran at age 6 includes the weather damaged bare feet of the child she gave her own shoes to. 5. The reason she performs barefoot is to bring awareness to her public of the children worldwide who can't afford shoes of their own. She has raised millions of dollars for clothing including shoes for those unfortunate children. 6. AJ sews her own clothes, (the cloth is designed by her grandmother). 7. We all hope to enjoy her performances for many years to come. 8. BTW I'm 80 and have been involved privately in music since my age of 7. 9. Great reaction, Jennifer. You talk about the "breathy" quality being her "signature style". While she does use this style to great effect, it was a choice she made for this performance. In earlier recordings, you will see that she has already shown proficiency in many different uses of her vocal instrument. She is truly a prodigy and has continued to expand and improve on an already amazing talent.

There are many conflicting estimates on her height (as on many things) on our content-wise shaky internet, but the more reliable sources seem to agree on her being a more normal (or indeed somewhat little) 162cm or 5'4" as per mid 2021 - certainly not 6'.

I think the word you might be looking for is “mesmerizing”. You said this song was her style. Yes, it is, but it’s not her only style. I’ve actively listened to music since the 1950’s. Angelina is, without any hesitation, the best singer I’ve ever heard-and that goes for many different genres. You’re getting an indication with the comments how devoted her fans are. To understand how uniquely talented Angelina is, my suggestion is to watch two songs: one at the absolute beginning of her career and one just recently. Watch her debut to the world at 7 singing Gloomy Sunday on Norway’s Got Talent. Then watch her very recent cover of Billie Jean. Then there’s over 100 other videos in between that you’ll need no urging to check out. Angelina is like no one else you’ve ever heard. It’s okay if you don’t believe that now, but you will.

I agree with efrat394's picks, but two of her songs that I find outstanding are "Shield", an original, and her cover of "Feeling Good". In Shield you'll hear Angelina's wonderful lower register and also you'll get a taste of her song writing at age 11 as well as her skills at music arranging. In Feeling Good you will get the full effect of her powerful voice and again see her incredible skill arranging a jazz orchestra.
