I have watched other 'child prodigies' start with amazing performances for their ages, and Angelina has certainly always been in that category. Most, almost all of them seem to 'plateau' at some point and don't improve much afterward. However, Angelina is pretty much alone not only in that she keeps adding to her huge abilities, but by how MUCH she keeps improving. She is a once-in-a-century talent by all measures.

Thanks for your reaction, for me this arrangement has Bossa Nova influences, and Bossa Nova influenced jazz specially by the hand of Quincy Jones and Frank Sinatra. It's seems very natural to Angelina engage on it, it's "Fly Me To The Moon" precursor.

I believe the mic is a Neumann TLM 102 specifically designed for home studio and professional use. It's especially good for vocals and high dynamic range. There is so much that can be said about how Angelina performs the covers she sings. Without further delving into the nuances of her technique and presentation I think it is important to keep our opinions in perspective. First and foremost, we must remember and appreciate how young Angelina is and that she is still physically growing and developing. What can not be denied is that Angelina had the incredible self awareness at two years of age that she wanted to sing. When watching her 6, 7, 8 and 9 year old performances the thing that stands out the most to me is her unusual level of maturity and professionalism. Watching her perform, “I’m going to put a spell on you” is an example of her uncanny level of maturity and professionalism. I don’t remember ever seeing a nine year old singer conduct themselves with the level of maturity and professionalism that Angelina does. Her performances are completely devoid of the behavior and conduct one comes to expect from someone so young. It’s quite evident that Angelina knows who she is, what she wants and what it is going to take to achieve her goal of super stardom. Now that she and her parents have signed a recording deal with Republic records Angelina about to realize her dream. That is a win-win scenario. It’s a win for Angelina and a win for her fans.

Angelina is probably the only young singer in the age group 10/14 years old who has a faithful fan base made up of adults 30 clear up to late 80's. The only other singer to qualify for that honor was maybe JUDY GARLAND.

Angelina received this Neumann mike (expensive) for her 12th birthday. Shortly after, she performed 3 songs with Ivan Mendez on the guitar within a month or so. You react very nice to her performances! The overall inpression and the details. Just want to invite you to pay attention to her timing too! For instance in this Xmas-song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m52lZplohtOimKs (8 years old, right after an interview). Her timing and dynamics (and even tonebending) add to the swing. Many adult singers will not be able to do that so jazzy, combined with a latin rhythm! (voice is a bit hoarse there because of a cold) Her timing plays a big role in many of her performances!

I expect you to take me down but do you know of anyone else who can sing either Baritone or Tenor and has switched for the last note of Old Man River. I sang my Old in an open mic. The next performer said he listened to Robeson 3 times because he liked it so much but I was better. I keep asking for feedback but I get very little.

Only critique I could come up with was some of the tempo choices she made during parts of the song. She lagged behind the tempo just a little too much in spots.

I've watched all of Angelina's performances, some of them many times over with different reactors, it would be an understatement to call me an avid fan. But, and I'm probably going to get flack for this from her fans, but I am not that impressed with this performance. First of all, could someone tell Angelina to put the camera at an angle so her mouth is not totally covered by the mic? It just looks weird. And the over the top breathiness is not my cup of tea. She is capable of doing a much stronger cover of this song, it's right up her alley.

I like her a lot. But, she doesn't compare to the Great Frankie Valli on this song. Too much air on the higher notes. Frankie didn't need to whistle to hit those high notes. But of course there's only one Frankie Valli.

A matter of taste. The Great Frankie Valli was 34 when he recorded it. The Great Angelina Jordan, 12 years old here, at home with a karaoke soundtrack, still has over 20 years to refine it. I'm pretty sure she can. No problem.

Sometimes I feel let down by Angelina - but no one else here seems to hear what I hear. I thought her dynamics and rhythm were uneven in many places on this track, which made it a choppy experience for me. And, can we get over the fact that she's 'cute'? That's a given. I appreciate 'vocal coach' reactions because I expect them to be (let me not say critical...heaven forbid) able to analyze the vocal performance. Or is this just an opportunity to say sweet things and make each other feel better?

The unevenness you describe is in the nature of the Jazz genre, that's what makes it "Jazz". You do know Angelina is basically a Jazz singer, right?

Some people do not know ,understand , appreciate or like jazz style inflections in a song cover, quite understandable. but to hint others are overlooking something you claim is not right is very short sided and self serving for a lack of appreciation for Angelina's jazzy enhancements to a lot of her covers. You want a traditional cover, there are other cookie cutter imitation singers that will give you what you want to hear. Cheers!!

Let me just say I understand what you mean, Deborah. However, I think Michal was on point here, she also mentioned her change of dynamics in this video. For me this is not Angelinas best work, for the same reason you describe, but it is still very, very good. However (again), this genre, jazz, is definitely open for change of dynamics and rhythm like we heard here, and I think her interpretation of this song was in fact well done.

This makes sense since I'm not very familiar with jazz, as you and David seem to be. I love a lot of Angelina's work, but this one & one other I can think of is not as good in my mind, that's all.
