Hello Gorgeous!
In this video, I react for the first time to South Korean beatboxer BigMan performing a solo for the Asian Beatbox Championship. In this video, I analyse his amazing performance, explain and demonstrate his vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great.
This is my second vocal reaction and analysis of a beatbox artist (after ShowGo) and - you guessed it - beatbox just keeps blowing my mind!
Original video link: • Bigman | Asia Beatbox ...
For lessons, workshops and video submissions please check out my website www.thefairyvoicemother.com
I'm so excited to be a part of your singing journey, It's one that truly never ends.
Love you forever,
The Fairy Voice Mother x

The fact that this is 5 years old and despite how quick the beatboxscene has evolved is still a crazy good performance is mad

That's because the scene only ever goes down different avenues and doesnt really evolved to a new level in style it's already been in. It may cycle back on its self one day. I hope technicality gets hype again.

@@wishtheyunderstoodme Not really true, take an Alem fast tech video from 5 years ago and compare it to Zero and Kohey now and you'll see a difference. The reason it can feel this way is because every elite level beatboxer has their own unique style, and it's very different to improve and evolve once you're already elite. It's what makes beatboxers like River, Colaps and Dlow stand out.

Omg so true !!! In 5 years the skill level has increased tenfold . Beatboxing has exploded during lockdowns I reckon .lots of time alone and the internet just not being enough anymore . Gotta feel the expression in real time . That's the feeling of beatbox. It's the power you need to feel when you feel powerless at the tip of your tongue.

The truth is that beatboxers are a world apart. I have no idea how many hours these people spend practicing to make different sounds, and on the other hand, the sense of rhythm they have to have is, for someone as clumsy as me, almost inhuman. Once again I have to thank you for the joy you bring us... you're great, a big hug.
@bleeditoutrox
@bleeditoutrox Жыл бұрын
@@main3182 To get to the highest level, its definitely thousands of hours and several years of consistent practice. I just find it so fascinating the act of starting out with a sound that is unclean and unpracticed then getting cleaner and cleaner by practicing it and spamming it for an extended period of time. You're right that anyone can get good at beatboxing, but you have to put the time in to actually get good just like any musical instrument you are trying to learn. (As you said)

After beatboxing for about 12 years now, music is like a language, things just seem not to too fit do. I think drill and hybrid styles come from beatbox. It sounds too much like beatbox trying to a produced piece.

The snare he’s doing is called the spit snare, no tongue needed. You basically mash your lips together and it makes this crunchy, loud snare. It’s sounds like weak farts when you first try to do it, but with lots of repetition, it’ll sound beefier, fuller and more like a clapping sound. Some people prefer to do this snare while having air trapped in their mouth somewhere i.e their lower lip area (BIGMAN’s position), upper lip area; a beatboxer called Young Recluse does his with the air on the side of his mouth. Others like to do it with little to no air in the mouth (this can be seen in beatboxers like Colaps and FootboxG). There’s also certain lip positions that people like over others i.e top lip over bottom lip (again, a part of BIGMAN’s position), bottom lip over top, neutral (which is neither), or in a puckered position like you’re going to kiss someone. This is all explained in a tutorial vid by beatboxer DLOW that he did a while back. There’s a beatboxer named MAX who does this snare with a particular lip position where he juts them out like he’s making a ducky face. Beatboxers like GENE and RIVER have very strong spit snares. COLAPS has a sharp spit snare. RIVER modified the snare and created a signature technique called the RIVER/pitched snare ( _SHOCKWAVE_ ). Regardless, it’s a technique that can create a powerful and loud snare. Plus, it’s very useful for breath control as it’s an ‘airless’ sound that is essentially the outward pressure generated by upper and lower lip pushing against each other really hard. That’s why you can see him overlay his singing and throat bass on top of the snare without any problems.

I think you're gonna love Codfish - Swimming Like a Toad, Den - Moments i Had, Stitch - Stay With Me and Gene Shinozaki - Metamorphosis. These beatboxers are considered as musical beatboxers but then you have technical beatboxers like Colaps - Precision, Alexinho - GBB 21 Wildcard and Helium - Requiem For a Dream. They still do musical beats but primarily do technical stuff and then there are my favorite, beatboxers who are in between, they combine musicality and technicality perfectly River' - By Ourselves, D-Low - Hard Sometimes, King Inertia - Collard Greens and Zekka - Make you Change. I think you should also react to some Live Battles, mainly Grand Beatbox Battle. Here are some battles i recommend : River' vs Hiss GBB 21, King Inertia vs Helium GBB 21, Colaps vs Zekka GBB 21, D-Low vs B-Art GBB 19, Show-Go vs Bataco GBB 18, Hiss vs NaPoM GBB 17.

I just watched both of your beatboxing reaction videos back to back right now because I knew you'd have some interesting things to analyze and demonstrate as well as have delightful reactions. The fact that you go out of your way to try and reproduce the sounds that all different types of vocalists make-with your own voice/body-is what really gives your insights so much direct credibility and extra entertainment to any viewers who aren't very knowledgeable. (Plus, it shows us how skilled and passionate you are, but really, I think the bigger impact is that you're not simply stating facts; you're stating facts and backing them up with your own experimentation and demonstration)

@@main3182 I know your heart is in the right place. Personally, I'd like to see mixed competitions at the national and international levels, and I think that semantics will unfortunately get in the way of that for a long time still. Rethinking my own comments, they were in no way meant to take away from concentrated efforts to get more women interested in pursuing beatboxing; I was thinking more toward the recognition and celebration of the entire beatboxing community as a whole. Its certainly been my experience thus far that the community is welcome and inviting to all, without labels. I appreciate you explaining your take & your own first-hand experience. If I came in too hot it was unintentional, after reading your comments I think we're both on the right side of this wonderful thing we both care about. Peace and love.

Only just came across your channel, it's really interesting to hear all the anatomical and academical phrases for the sounds we've all just randomly been making! I love seeing how enthusiastic you are about Beatboxing :D

Another great beatbox analysis, you approach beatbox with so much enthusiasm and it's a joy to watch! I second all the recommendations for Stitch and Den, they have some truly unique sounds, but I have to throw in for one of my favorite battles - CODFISH vs D-LOW | Grand Beatbox SHOWCASE Battle 2018 | FINAL. You don't get to really see the lips like you have in the past two, but battles are something special. And I promise you'll never see a better stank face than at a beatbox battle.

Ayyy She's back!! Just as good as the Sho-go breakdown :D As you get into the scene (and a very happy welcome we love when folks from different disciplines come in and appreciate/educate us!!) I encourage you to start around the 2017/2018 era and work your way to modern stuff. As with any small scene what's popular, new techniques and callbacks to past performances I think will only enhance you appreciation for all the amazing performances by these artists :).

Really loved that you actually ARE interesting in learning and really understand what is going on, even without knowing the name of all those sounds, at least you use your knowledge to add some pretty interesting thoughts about what what you think they are doing. Welcome to the beatbox community, hope you enjoy the ride!

"DEN | 2nd Place Compilation" is something I think you should check out, it's from a recent competition called BBU... and Den is a great singer aswell as a producer and beatboxer. From this competition he got known for his impeccable pitch. BBU was a bit different in the way that you got more freedom to use effects like reverb, just to be able to make it sound as good as possible. But it had to be beatboxable by 1 person and everything had to come from the mouth. It was a really fun concept and Den nailed it :) Love your energy and the reactions! Keep up the good work :)

Welcome to the Beatbox rabbit hole! Alem, Ballzee, Reeps One, Colaps, River, Stitch and King Inertia are all beatboxers I'd recommend checking out in addition to more Shogo. You've stumbled into a whole new world of vocal wizardry and I'm excited to see your journey!

So.. what this is? Our freaked-out, (in a good way), Fairy Godmother, reverse engineering, quite literally, because it IS an engineering feat, with pure joy. What a blast to watch, lol.
