I'm always amazed by people who say that Billie Eilish doesn't touch them. How can a beating heart listen to this song especially - and not start bleeding? I am 60 years old and I started to listen actively to music in 1971. Billie Eilish is on par with the greats from that era who are now classics.

Active listening is something that a lot of people can't understand. I'm not a huge fan of her music but it's mostly because the emotion she shares with us is too powerful for me. I think we are all drawn to singers who who help us feel what we need to. So, I don't listen to Billie Eilish not because she's a bad singer but because she's too good.

I discovered Billie Eilish a couple of years ago. At that time, her name was all over the place, but I thought it might just another one of those younger female pop singers with a good but “standardized” voice singing catchy but dull pop songs. However, then I listen to one of her songs for the first time, and I instantly liked it. What makes her quality for me is that she is so good at what she does, and she does what she likes, and not what the music industry demands at the moment. This combination of quality and authenticity and passion is what makes artists great for me.

People criticize the singing all the time but it's one of those, "if ya know, ya know". She is really good about not being a "pop artist". She knows what she is doing. It takes a lot of control to do what she does.

@@gearjammer5499 Ive seen people comment how bad singer she is, but she actually didn’t use to sing like that. I believe she did voice classes since a kid, because her parents put her into a lot of this artistic things. She pretty much built something no one have ever done before and probably will not achieve after her… there’s many and many singers that are average like Selena, Taylor, olivia Rodrigo. But billie doesn’t just wanna sing some stupid song, she sings her soul and that’s what makes her amazing

Thanks for breaking this down. I've really liked your videos in the past. :) Billie Eilish is not a great singer from a trained technical perspective, but she more than makes up for it through a really strong intuitive musical sense. I feel like she probably spent a lot more time listening and copying techniques from her favourite singers and figuring out her own style intuitively than practicing scales or doing physical vocal exercises. Training really helps you sustain your voice and achieve what you want as a singer more easily, which is why it's good to practice these kinds of technical exercises. But what I think Billie Eilish understands is that music is about connecting with people emotionally, and her ability to do that (and I mean REALLY do that) separates her from most technically proficient singers. I could pick Billie Eilish out a group of 100 female vocalists, even those trying to clone her. When that uniqueness is combined with also being an unusually subtle and effective songwriter, you really have something.

I started a comment and it disappeared! I am enamored with Billie - I love her voice, their songs, and I am a true, diehard fan - but when I listen to Haley Reinhart sing "Creep" for (PMJ) that blows me way, or Ariana Grande with Abel singing "Save Your Tears" - her voice is beautiful; I want Billie to do more than 1 big note "die" in "No Time to Die", but even so she captivates me - I know the word is overused - but some of it is authenticity ( you get what you see - she is truly sharing a deep part of herself ). Just a Reminder, FINNEAS wrote this song (and Ocean Eyes ). Here's one to think about [ partly because of the song and partly because she is Telly Savalas's daughter. ] PMJ, featuring Ariana Savalas doing Billie's "Bad Guy" in a Tango style. I think it's wonderful #BillieEilish #BadGuy #Cover

I did comment 9 months ago, but I watched this again and I really like your review/analysis. This is a recommendation - Tristan Parades did a very nice review of Billie singing Danny Elfmans "Sallys Song" from "The Nightmare before Christmas" - it presents a different and - I believe - very impressive example of Billie's singing and versatility. It's from October 29, 2021 - Tristan added another song, only 1 minute long where she sings with Danny Elfman [ one channel is "lucid" ]. I would love to see you react to/review it. But even if you didn't, I believe you would really enjoy it. Billie's stage presence is something special for that show. [As you know, several other famous artists covered that song - Amy Lee, Catherine O'Hara and Helena Bonham Carter. I loved Billie's. P.S. I'm 68 and haven't been to a concert in over 40 years - on March 15, 2022 I went to Billie's concert at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN - it was fantastic; often moving this grown man to tears.

If we went back to the 90's when granmys were still given to the best artist of that time period. How is it that a heavily effects imbued billie ellish or Olivia Rodrigo have a grammy period? Just because they are popular? When Brittney spears first came out with “baby one more time.” It was phenomenon, even larger then “bad guy”. But she wasn't given a grammy for her popularity. How is it that Mariah and Celine dion have only 5 grammys. But billie already has 8 of them in her 3rd year. It is because of it being rigged. How does Beyonce have more grammys then Whitney Houston? Hell even Blue Ivy has one. Thetr are legendary artists who havent won a single grammy. It really is a fix, the younger fans won't ever see it. But if we award artists based on complete and utter talent. Billie may get a few MTV awards. But a grammy sweep? It comes down to her manager campaigning for her. If everyone around the world voted on who gets what. We would see a lot of talented singers not known to the current generation. Coming out of nowhere to claim the wins. I do not much care for her music. I believe most anyone reading this comment can sing like her with proper training. Just get you a vocal coach and priducer/ song writer and you are there. Mainstream does not equate to talent. This is harsh I know. A lot of stans will not like this assessment. But I implore you to explore the past in musical history. How can a masterpiece like stairway to heaven or bohemian rhapsody compare to “all I ever wanted” or “drivers license”? From a vocalist stand point. If you strip away all the effects and instrumentals. Those with a very keen ear would wonder what is so special about this cookie cutter artist. Olivia and Billie are very popular and came from wealth. Their experiences are inauthentic and it is the crazed fans acting like they are greater than the Beatles or Michael Jackson.
