Excellence! We grew up with him, such colorful voice. Unique artist. I finally got to see him in April this year live. His best years were in the 2000s and this Jose Jose tribute. But still he is just awesome live. Great lyrics, great interpretations. He definitely knows how to project the emotions to the lyrics of the songs. He said it himself "my songs are full of drama." If he had been an actor his genre for sure would be drama. But he has fun songs too.

Cristian Castro recorded José José album to honor him. He tried to make them as close to the originals with his voice. That's why he sounds like he is mimicking José. He uses the same inflexions and vocal transitions among other characteristics and technical skills.

Hi Beth. I’m a fan of yours. In this song Cristian is really emulating Jose Jose, who made this song famous. You didn’t get the pop/rock vibe because he is paying tribute to someone he really respects. You should look into other Cristian songs suggested in the comments. You’ll probably find he sings generally about an octave higher than he did in this song, and he typically stays more in his mixed voice rather than chest like he did here.
