Hey everyone! Just a little note to thank you all for watching the video, I had a lot of fun with this one, discovering an old song from Nightwish brought to life! Thanks for suggesting it to me! I always apreciate your requests and suggestions! As a side note, I’ve wanted to react to Slaying the Dreamer (which is one of my very favorite, I actually have a cover of it on my channel) but it came out too late and I was already exhausted, so it’ll probably have to be only when I come back from Canada in mid-december! Next song I have planned is Somewhere feat. Anneke which will be out on Tuesday!!! See you guys there!!

Yep, my "Oceanborn" favourites were always "Stargazers", "Gethsemane", "Sacrament Of Wilderness", "Moondance" [Instrumental], "The Riddler", "Walking In The Air" [Best Cover ever of that song]....I don't know, I was caught by those songs from the very first listening session. But this Live-version of "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" is catching me better than the album-version.

It's not only you ... I didn't care so much for this song until I heard it performed live by Floor for the first time in Paris. I was just blown away by her performance, stage presence, using her voice in so many different ways. She litteraly owns this song !
@somedigitalist76815 жыл бұрын
Floor's interpretation of this song is fascinating because she uses sooooo many vocal colour changes so close together. At several points in the song she is shifting tone placements every couple of words, most noticeably in her first two verses. It's one of the most interesting tools she's added to her vocal arsenal in the last couple of years. Also, once you mentioned it, I totally get the Phantom analogy with this song, structurally.
@elanoir32714 жыл бұрын
I agree! After all these years I have just finally realized that I love this song! I have never paid really attention to it because I found it to "noisy" and difficult to follow... but Floor just raised it to another level. This is theatrical music.

It's not just you Elvann. I feel it as well. I love when Marco does the masculine evil entity and Floor does the feminine oppressed or defiant part. It gives a feeling of musical theater to the song which once again brings it to life and gives it an epic quality. Floor is donning her Valkyrie /Wonder Woman outfit and at the end when the lights project from the floor in a V pattern, it looks like she is about to take to flight. Arms outstretched and hands in a fist. Beautiful and powerful charisma and stage presence all at the same time. She really understands imagery and body positioning. Just as you stated during the long vocal sequence. Floor really accentuates and owns the moment! You gotta love it! I know I do! Thanks for the song. I will check it out and give you some feedback later. Again beautifully done lovely Elvann.

Hello Elvann! At first i would say i like all of your Nightwish reactions, i also like most of your NW covers , you are also a very good singer! Respect! I think this song "Devil & the deep dark ozean" is one of the most difficult songs to sing and play live! But Floor, Marko and also whole band make e great job like ever! All two great singers, but Floor is out from this World, for me she is at our time the best and most skilled and trained female singer with an inctedible range, abilitys, and her voice! I love her voice si much! I don't hear "Ghost Love Score" maybe about 1-2-3 Months and if i heard that song than again i got goosebumps, i became tears in my eyes and i feel if i heared that song my first time! I don't know what it is, i think it's at most her voice, i love her voice! Here i have 2 songs from Nightwish for you to react if you want: "Wy Walden" and "Weak Fantasy", this two songs are from the "Tampere Conzert" in 2015! I hope you see and read that, and i also hope i see 1 or all 2 rections from you about that 2 songs! The best wishes to you and Greetings from Vienna🇦🇹Austria! 🖤 Stay safe! Classic Nightwish. I suggest you take a deep dive into the "Oceanborn" album, because that is where that 'classic nightwish' sound was first established, then further built upon in "Once". I really love how you say that the song is much clearer; I wholeheartedly agree. It's less messy, and the dynamics stand out more prominently. I really like the song by itself, but I don't listen to it that very often. The song has always been very emotional, but the confusing mixture and veil over the song from the studio version never did it justice. I also see your point about the Phantom of the Opera vibe, I have never thought about it, but it's there for sure. The dark, male (devil) voice/character tempting the innocent, female voice culminating in her refusal of the devil ("Leave me be, leave me be."). A great catch! :)

What you said makes a lot of sense about being able to understand the song being a central focal point of your ability to enjoy it. It's like with any other form of art legibility is very much required. If I look at a painting and I can't "read" it, or it doesn't speak to me some way, how can I like it? I've been a huge Nightwish fan for about 16 years now, and Oceanborn is one of my favorite albums, but I also agree that hearing this version gives this song a new clarity. It's like the difference in seeing a video on VHS, then seeing it in 4K bluray.

Marko in a funny set up, had just gotten through dryly talking about a "love story." He then offers them "this nice little piece." Tuomas chose songs for "Decades" that he felt represented the essence of the band during the different time periods. So it was more of a "retrospective" as opposed to a Greatest Hits collection. Plus I'm sure he wanted to have really great video versions of many of these songs.

the original version of this song terrified me the first time i heard it. i've only listened to few newer Nightwish songs at that point (DPP and Once), and going from new to old was really something. I thought it was black metal at first haha. but yea the old version had this very low, almost growly male vocal which sounded terrifying (i was not exposed to death metal at that point), coupled with tarja's high pitched "wailing".. man i remember not including this song in my playlists lol. years later after listening to a lot of tristania and trail of tears, this song became one of my favourite nightwish songs. when floor first joined the band this song and slaying the dreamer were the two songs that i really wanted to hear her sing. i love anette but she butchered slaying the dreamer lol. was really hoping floor would growl the male parts, that would be so epic. but yea there are overlapping parts so i guess that wont work
