About the dancing: I’ve commented this under so many videos, the girl was on tour performing, grinding nonstop for god knows how long to get her career going and people nitpicked that one singular performance to shreds. I’ve seen her live early on and she was great back then already. Don’t get me wrong, she still improved nonetheless, but this so called „lack of stage presence“ never existed in my opinion.
@vesa874 Жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. Saw her very early on in her career and she had GREAT stage presence and her dancing was fine. I think after ‘one kiss’ they got her a choreographer and that’s when the ‘awkward’ dancing started because the dances were too stiff and before that she just went with the flow.
@becca-dn4vs Жыл бұрын
Yeah they always criticise women singers. Most male singers just stand there but no one ever dares to comment about their bad stage presence. The world hates women and nitpicks everything they do.

It's sure dance music. You got to be able to remember some melody, but then is something rare they used to call evergreen. Thank you!@@vesa874

I think she has stage presence but not in a way people wanted or expected with the disco album , Adele also has stage presence but it’s doesn’t translate to choreography, I see the same with dua , she has the presence but she can look stiff in a choreography based stage , she has such a statuesque and demanding energy but I personally don’t think it translates to choreography well

This song was also co-written and co-produced by Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. She has mentioned that the album overall is supposed to be a bit more experimental than her last works, and I think this was a good start. I would say that, in addition to the slight change in tone, the new hair, and the more of a focus on dance/movement, that she is indeed reinventing herself, at least a little bit! Can’t wait to hear this album!! 🖤

Honestly, sorry, but I think that this should’ve been a Feat. Tame Impala / Kevin. There’s just too much of his musical personality and identity there to just be mentioned at the back of the album. I’m not a huge pop person, yet I’ve grew up with Indie and loved Tame Impala for ages. And I can’t help but feel that I am so drawn to this song because of that touch, the indie, alternative Kevin touch. Also, after listening to Training Season - I’m just not so interested in it - and you can also not hear Kevin so much on it although he still produced it. So yeah, shout out to both, but Houdini should be Feat. ✌🏻 :)

I actually noticed the change in voice because of listening to her in interviews. Her lower and slightly pushier voice is not her natural voice, but rather her "singing" voice that she probably developed as to add character when she started off. Her voice in Houdini matches more to how she talks normally, so she is probably just getting comfortable singing in her own natural voice now.
@thesecondduck1 Жыл бұрын
She said she’s looking into more 70s/80s psychedelic rather than Future Nostalgia’s disco. But if you start playing the song and stop it before she starts singing, don’t you reckon it gives a little bit of Abba? A man after midnight kinda vibes?

to add onto your comment about how pop stars are expected to serve choreo 110% of time when it shouldn't be the measure of their talent as a performer, we have to address that male pop stars are not NEARLY as scrutinized as women in pop music when it comes to delivering iconic dances, looks, and dramatic reinventions with every era. i feel like so many dudes get away with putting out the same sound every album cycle and just walking around on stage, but if a female artist doesn't have multiple wardrobe changes, an elaborate stage setup, or tiktok-ready dance breakdowns, they get torn down on twitter. the double standards are double standarding fr

3;17 . "right" - This guy is great at characterising, he's amazing. I see, it's 2,56 "already". He's about the best "already" 🙂 Here's what this video made me bubble, than you for your "understanding", and space. This is great fun! The beginning reminds me of Madonna singing Holiday when nobody knew her name; the singing was so perfect and uniform in the "music" that personality did not matter. I think there is a world where perfectionism is a way to excel in uniform where all are equal and nothing really matters. Others who differ are apart, though shalt not mingle. BTW, Alcohol is the cultural drug that corresponds - just watched some other KZbin movie on 50 famous Hollywood stars dying of booze. So what 2:44 is might be "slurring" the speech. "We could be heroes" - just for a day? You will fall. Any star will fall (there is some etymology in time and situation - times of wartimes, war may hiddenly be boring, if not it's because it's sad if really being perfect doesn't help from being killed. ) if he is no longer perfect because being perfect all the time - seems boring. It's not entertaining. A slur might be more interesting, or some fall. "too bad", you better be bad, Sam Smith comes to my mind, here, he's do or die. --- 8:17 "there's a not there" - well said, sounds like some quote from a wise musician: if you knew which note, which one, got to be there you needn't rate the singing, sorry, if that note there would have really made it I had gone there but it did not so what... Maybe you want to say (maybe): if the song as a song is too simple in its melody lines you got to really out-perform, be it by virtuous range. I carry a saying from Tina Turner: "I think I can do it", when she was handed a song. Hopefully, Dua Lipa will pass this examen, it's important. I hope for the best and watch through. Thank you for this space, in advance. Never mind!
