This sentence, is one of the most hispter things for someone to say. You just say something without justification of arguments. I can say to you for example, that one moment in rock history that is greater, and maybe the greatest, is when Deep Purple where recording in Montreux and went to see playing live, Frank Zappa and the mothers, and the place went on fire and they got inspired for the anthem , Smoke on the water. Someone will say that this is a way to express your admiration for something. There are more edifying ways to express such things and not those that the main thing they do is to attract attention and likes.

I’m not an expert like Ken, but Axl’s voice is actually very well preserved. It’s just that Axl chooses not to full force and picks his spots nowadays. Perhaps because he feels he cannot go full force for entire show or tour anymore, I dont know. Check the AC/DC performances by Axl from 2016 to see how he sounds when he’s trying his hardest, it’s still amazing.

Axel likes to tell the story when Elton came to his room (by surprise) to discuss the song. As they began talking Elton was getting progressively tense...even kinda red in the face. Suddenly he kinda grabs the sofa and screams "I AM A GAY MEN!". Ax was like..."dude thats cool, so about the bridge" 😅. By then activists were causing havoc to keep Guns out of the tribute (acusations of homofobia and racism cause of One in a Million) so much that Axel called Brian and say they would not play cuz the press was focused on that instead of the tribute. Brian said no frking way and you enter more than once. Axel met freddy and the queen way before this gig, and kept in touch for a while cuz of freddy's illness always calling brian about new treatments. Their last call I think was 4 days before his passing and Axel was informed freddy would pass soon.

Regarding Brian's first guitar solo, I like to think that the reason the solo was quite thin on this occasion - was because of what he was feeling. I think you can almost hear the sadness in his tone more than ever in this concert. Bare in mind, he was not only coping with the death of Freddie, but also the death of his father whom he was very close to and the divorce from his then wife! He's spoken in interviews about feeling suicidal at this time.

Found this after watching a tribute to Freddie that was aired on UK BBC tv last night. A couple of things - as far as I am aware Queen always played the soundtrack of the middle bit of Bo Rhap during their live shows - and left the stage. Maybe they used it as a bathroom break! This whole performance screams monitor issues and no rehearsal. That being said, it was still pretty good. Queen, Elton and Axl are all veteran musicians who have spent many hours on stage. The issues like Elton’s dragging intro, May’s guitar tone and Axl’s pitch are all pretty classic cases of artists not being able to hear themselves. If I remember correctly, this was a pretty huge deal having Axl and Elton on the same stage together. Check out the Guns n Rose's part, they did two songs earlier in that evening.

you should definitely react to some of eltons early 70s live stuff when his vocals were at their best, like when he debuted some of his songs on live tv shows solo or with a 3 piece band. also 70s elton wouldve nailed queen songs so much better. same with when he sang the show must go on in this concert, he ditches even trying to hit the high notes, mainly on the "I'll face it with a grin im never giving in on with the show" line, once again his 70s voice would have nailed it (though maybe in falsetto not his chest voice like freddie could lol)

It's not Elton or Axles fault, Freddie can NOT be duplicated, not just vocally but charasmatically. When your original and the best at your craft it's best to leave it alone. That is why it was smart of Led Zep to call it a day in 1980. Ken your delivery is fantastic. I agree with your assessment of Brian Mays sound. Him and Tom Sholtz are amazing when it comes to technical and harmonics.

From what I've heard, they never rehearsed this song together, which makes it even more cool to watch.
