I've seen Garbage live 20 years ago as part of a festival. They were due pretty late when everybody was drunk already (including some of the bands that had played that day) and there was a huge crowd. Maybe 1.5 football/soccer fields full of people right in front of the stage and easily as many in the surrounding area - not exactly the best conditions for them, right? Shirley stepped onto the stage and did nothing. She just stood there. She didn't say anything, She just stood there. Alone on the whole wide stage. And in merely seconds the huge drunken crowd calmed down and looked at her. I've never seen anything like it. The way the crowd reacted to Shirley Manson's presence alone was impressive. Thousands of people turned their heads and looked expectantly at her, waiting what she would do. Once that happened the whole band joined her. Needless to say that they stole the show and blew everybody else away, easily. She also was fantastic in The Sarah Connor Chronicles, as a tech company CEO with more than just a few secrets. Enigmatic and hypnotic performance

Great song. 😃 Written by and produced by Garbage. Sample of Don't Worry Baby, written by Brian Wilson and the late Roger Christian. BW was inspired by Be My Baby, sung by The Ronnettes, lead singer was the late Ronnie Spector. Take Me Home Tonight sung by the late Eddie Money has the late Ronnie Spector as a guest. RIP Ronnie Spector, Eddie Money and Roger Christian. Shirley Manson tweeted her eulogy.

Saw them live in the early 2000nd's in Köln (Cologne) too. Still remember her saying to the band "Stop, stop, stop..." as her band was going for the next song. She then added, "you guys have to know, we played all the different places all over the world, but I've never seen a waiter going with the tablet of beer through the dancing crowd... This can only happen in germany.... Rock on." Thank you Beth for this reaction and the memories. May I suggest a reaction to Chvrches and "The mother we share" or "clearest blue"?

The whole band were well known producers, except for Manson. That was the whole premise behind them. Get 3 producers that are fed up with the direction music is going, band them together to show the world and industry how it is supposed to run. Take the mickey out of the irony of the name Garbage and write every song to push all buttons that they can think of. They got lucky in finding Manson. She added to the whole idea and made it one perfect masterpiece.

Yes! One of my favourite bands ever, introduced to me by a friend right after the first album release. I have only heard them live once, on the night in 2016 when someone we won't mention entered office. Let's just say that you could slice Shirley's anger that night with a knife :D But they put on one hell of a performance for me and the 900 other people at the venue.

Great video! I just discovered your channel so I'm catching up on your wonderful vast knowledge. Shirley is one of my top favorite artist. But I listen to every genre of music. In 1995 · I guess I was 35 when I bought their debut album and had just moved from Memphis TN. to the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. "Vow" of course which hit big in other states got absolutely no radio play what so ever in that Bible Belt neck of the woods. If people only knew the song was written in reference to domestic abuse. That type of censorship is far more damaging in my opinion.Anyways ,when the lock downs started.I re- listened to every album, read and watched everything every interview concert or podcast Shirley Manson and Garbage I could find. Not only a fantastic artist in every sense of the word. But genually a very unique compassionate inspiring person.. Just all around good folk.. I just watched your video on Fleetwood Mac andAmy Lee. I so agree with you on her abilities. "My Immortal" has brought me to tears on several occasions.Incredible talent.

Butch Vig is from there and had his studio there. Duke and Steve were also producers and worked with Butch for a very long time. I believe they had been friends from early on in their careers. The three guys wanted to form a band that they did more than produce with. One night, while looking for a singer, Steve heard Shirley on a video for her old band Anglefish on MTV. They approached her without knowing much about her other than how they liked her voice. Her other band was following apart and so they all meet up, and they eventually asked her to come record with them. Interestingly enough, the first day they met was the day Kurt Cobain died. Butch of course produced Nirvana’s Nevermind album. Really it’s one of those crazy stories that someone worked out in the end. They just released their seventh album this year!
