I agree. We all know that she cannot have another smash hit at this point of her career except of AIWFCIUY. The reasons are so many and just to mention a few: ageism, the way the music is consumed right now, stigma around her persona etc. But she doesn't have anything to prove and she can play and experiment as much as she wants. I am so glad she continues to give us new music and we need to appreciate that fact because so many artists stop to be creative at this age.

I honestly think this is just a cultural difference. Kirk Franklin is one of the most prolific gospel recording artists of the last 30 years. He's a songwriter, composer, and producer, so that's why he's hyping the choir. This kind of song structure is very typical for gospel artists.

I loved the song. Anyone who knows Mariah knows that it is absolutely like her to merge her music with an artist like Kirk Franklin. It's not r&b or rap actually lol, but has gospel elements in the second half. There is also a radio edit which you might prefer. I don't think she was trying to make another All I want for Christmas song. I felt like the style of this one is really for lambs and I love that. She doesn't need another #1. Also I think Mariah's diction is amazing even here, Khalid was the one who was harder to understand. But some of Mariah's songs are intentionally done in this style. Her Butterfly album is the perfect example of this.

For all the comments about male vocalists she could have chosen - she’s already collaborated with all of them. Mariah is about trying new things with new people and always has been since day 1. Khalid has his own vibe and style and has stayed true to that, whilst melding really smoothly with MC. No complaints in that choice. Plus his PJs are to die for 😂 Loved the gospel too - not for her just to “show off” … if you read her book and know how strong the Lambs have been pushing for more gospel, you’ll see why she’s added this element too. The whistles take the chorus to the next level! Without all the bells & whistles though (literally), the melody and arrangement alone are beautiful. Loved it

Mariah knows how to evolve, sadly I can't say the same about some of the lambs. The song is such a beautiful call back to My All. I agree, Khalid has his own style, and I really enjoyed his voice. The fact that the song had two music styles (from something almost latino to something more gospel) in it was great so that Mariah, especially, could show different vocal ranges and applying them on those styles while keeping some of her original signatures. Kirk's speech is his signature in all songs he plays. That was a good addition to the song because it helped break the normalcy (so do speak) that the first part of the song was becoming into and maybe that was why some people could feel the song was getting too long.

I think there's a cultural difference here. This song is a pure mixture of r&b and gospel that's drenched with soul. Not everyone can feel this type of song. Which is ok!!

The Honest Vocal Coach didn't quite like this song. It reminds me of her late Madonna performances. I agree. The part with Khalid drags. And Khalid mumbles as usual. I have gotten into the song though.

Love your reactions! ❤️ You are very honest with your videos. And yeah, I thought it was "Fa la la fa la la" but hearing it in loop I just realized it was "Fall in love". 🤣

It's definitely not the traditional Christmas song, but that's what I love about it. She's already got 3 albums of Christmas music. I wish there were more Christmas music in this vibe.

The single has been radio edited but the video gave me a bring it to church moment of which they switch it up and have fun which is normal for gospel.

I think this is definitely a more radio friendly rnb Christmas song. It’s classic in a different way!

I think some demographics dont understand the urban music or community and say things dismissive due to ignorance..maybe this type of music just isn't in the wheelhouse of the honest vocal coach but that doesn't mean it isn't art or good.
