Kirk Franklin is a gospel producer and choral director. That is his way of hyping the choir. I think the song was fantastic and the outro was amazing. A great Christmas song to listen to by a fire at home.

I disagree. Mariah is at a stage in her career where she can have fun and experiment and not worry about a 2-3 minute radio edit. This is her having fun with her art. Sorry for all those that missed that and expect an All I Want For Christmas part 2.

I agree. We all know that she cannot have another smash hit at this point of her career except of AIWFCIUY. The reasons are so many and just to mention a few: ageism, the way the music is consumed right now, stigma around her persona etc. But she doesn't have anything to prove and she can play and experiment as much as she wants. I am so glad she continues to give us new music and we need to appreciate that fact because so many artists stop to be creative at this age.

I honestly think this is just a cultural difference. Kirk Franklin is one of the most prolific gospel recording artists of the last 30 years. He's a songwriter, composer, and producer, so that's why he's hyping the choir. This kind of song structure is very typical for gospel artists.

I think to understand this song you have to know the artists featured in it to have a better context. I absolutely loved the song. I’ve been listening to Kirk Franklin since forever so I knew what I was getting with him. Mariah is always a beast. She is music! I will say this, enunciation is a definite problem with newer artists in this day and age like Khalid. They all mumble their words, which makes it really hard for me to listen to mainstream pop music these days. I know of him, but don’t know his music. Still a great voice and thought the song was phenomenal. It’s been on repeat 🔁

Great analysis :) Such an exciting time in Mariah’s career. I sometimes look at the scale and longevity of an artist like Aretha Franklin. She had many hits, accomplishments and accolades even in the later half of her career. I feel like Mariah is just now stepping into that stage of her life and I’m happy she is getting recognition. Still not enough in my opinion!

See this is the issue with people putting out songs that are like 2-2:30 minutes. They only do it for radio play and for streams...I'm happy that Mariah is having fun doing long songs, I know she has been making longer songs like this so I hope people don't feel the same way because it's "long"

I loved the song. Anyone who knows Mariah knows that it is absolutely like her to merge her music with an artist like Kirk Franklin. It's not r&b or rap actually lol, but has gospel elements in the second half. There is also a radio edit which you might prefer. I don't think she was trying to make another All I want for Christmas song. I felt like the style of this one is really for lambs and I love that. She doesn't need another #1. Also I think Mariah's diction is amazing even here, Khalid was the one who was harder to understand. But some of Mariah's songs are intentionally done in this style. Her Butterfly album is the perfect example of this.

For all the comments about male vocalists she could have chosen - she’s already collaborated with all of them. Mariah is about trying new things with new people and always has been since day 1. Khalid has his own vibe and style and has stayed true to that, whilst melding really smoothly with MC. No complaints in that choice. Plus his PJs are to die for 😂 Loved the gospel too - not for her just to “show off” … if you read her book and know how strong the Lambs have been pushing for more gospel, you’ll see why she’s added this element too. The whistles take the chorus to the next level! Without all the bells & whistles though (literally), the melody and arrangement alone are beautiful. Loved it
@musicworldnow365

Mariah knows how to evolve, sadly I can't say the same about some of the lambs. The song is such a beautiful call back to My All. I agree, Khalid has his own style, and I really enjoyed his voice. And for those that are so focused on "diction", they should check out his other duet with Alicia Keys called "So Done", he sings the same way but you can actually hear the words he is singing.

It’s a gospel outro section the main version ends earlier. Kirk is gospel. Otherwise the song is a normal length really. As a body of work what she’s done bringing the musicians together and incredible singers, building that song from scratch is phenomenal, what a great talent and ability to bring that idea together and turn into what was literally a seed from Mariah’s brain . Khalid with his signature sound and Kirks gospel and Mariah’s song writing of the lyrics and melody. Genius.

I disagree. This is the best christmas song this year! Most (not ALL)Non black peeps cant understand/relate to R&B/SOUL/GOSPEL. Like we (NOT ALL)cant quite relate to Country/Rock/Techo./Aternative..

I completely understand this style of music. I was so mad with what she was saying about Khalid and how it 'dragged' on. Georgina doesn't have a clue about anything. She just sits behind a camera and criticises (but not in a good way). In every single one of her videos she has something negative or bitchy to say.

I think ‘non black peeps can’t understand’ is a tad exaggerated 😭 but I agree that some people are far less cultured in this genre specifically than others. I agree with you thooo !

Country? Lmao pretty sure y'all were trynna claim country back when Beyonce sang with the chicks but anyways. Alot of black artists were in rock, either singing or part of the band.

I've been waiting for EVER for these two great composer's to do a song and they DID THAT! This is one of the best songs I have ever heard. It wasn't long, it wasn't long enough. You lost interest because you perhaps thought it was going to be something else, saw it wasn't and then wanted it to be over with. you missed the vibe, oh well, I didn't! Thanks

When I first listened to this song, I didn't really dig it. But slowly the song grows on me and now I find myself putting this song on KZbin repeat 3-4 times a day LOL. I like the fact that Mariah released a Christmas song with a very different feel than AIWFCIY. This is not your typical festive and joyous Christmas song like the latter. This is more like a warm and cozy song to enjoy by the fire while you're sipping hot cocoa with your boo LOL. This song DEFINITELY brings a warm and comfy feeling on me.

It’s Christmasy to me in a mellow hot chocolate kind of way. I can see how she would have been expected to put out a more festive song. But I love this one too 🙏🏾

Diction are you kidding me I never criticize the way you speak but it’s very hard to understand you sometimes so please when you critique please don’t speak upon someone’s diction because yours isn’t perfect. I enjoyed it , it was gospel at the end not yo yo yo smh this woman.

The fact that the song had two music styles (from something almost latino to something more gospel) in it was great so that Mariah, especially, could show different vocal ranges and applying them on those styles while keeping some of her original signatures. Kirk's speech is his signature in all songs he plays. That was a good addition to the song because it helped break the normalcy (so do speak) that the first part of the song was becoming into and maybe that was why some people could feel the song was getting too long.

The Honest Vocal Coach didn't quite like this song. It reminds me of her late Madonna performances. I agree. The part with Khalid drags. And Khalid mumbles as usual. I have gotten into the song though.
