This is so cool, I've been blowing people's minds by showing them all this performance by Nick for a decade now and hearing an expert break thinks down feels like getting a peek behind the curtain. Also I'm always blown away by the knowledge and intelligence Tara displays in these breakdowns. So many coaches give opinions, Tara is teaching advanced stuff here.

@@Tarasimonstudios yeah he really is incredible, as is panic at the disco, especially in earlier albums! A pleasure to watch you react, i know its a little far out, but have you reacted or heard a band called in fear and faith? i think you would enjoy his billy jean cover, also the band "architects" anything by them!
I concur. He has definitely improved over time. He did a GREAT job on a Les Miserables medley.

How did you get so smart Tara?! I'm always so impressed with what you notice, how you analyze and break it down, critique in the most respectful manner, impart valuable advice to your audience and always jump in the opportunity to say something positive (especially after you have to say something critical) you are an amazing person, anyone would be lucky to have you add their voice teacher (and friend!)

I went looking for a vocal coach review of this video, but did not expect to find someone as completely masterful at explaining what was going on in the video… fantastic review, this is a pretty great go at the song especially that it was solo… I agree completely with your assessment of the performance, and I appreciate that you still kept in mind how difficult it must have been to go back and forth through those registers… very well explained, thank you!!

I'm so glad you reacted to Nick! This is definitely one of his older videos, so I'd like to hear your opinion on how much he's improved in both registers since this video. I recommend listening to/watching his cover of Sia's Chandelier or maybe his one man Disney medley. The former is a good comparison of his register switches & self-harmonies while the latter is more for presentation and singing at individual registers. I would love to hear your input on either of those. Great video! :)

Wow, her insights were really cool/valuable, and her explanations were incredibly clear even to someone like me whose musical knowledge involves singing along to radio while driving. I love how she even demonstrated examples of comparisons she was making vocally. Her chest/head voice comparison, as well as the flat/correct note on "any" in "anywhere" (male voice) were easy to hear when she sang them herself. Some terms like 'head voice' vs. 'chest voice' would be lost on noobs like me without her vocal examples.

Honestly I'm new to singing, mostly because i have bad stage fright so i always practiced in secret. Until about a month ago i sung in front of 3 friends "proud of your boy" from broadway Aladdin. My friends said i was amazing, but they commented that because i was so nervous that i couldn't completely hit the high notes just right. So i keep practicing whenever i can. Now i wanna sing for my mom's birthday in November 2019. But i gotta get my confidence up

Thank you for reacting to Nick! Your facial expressions were adorable! I believe the first thing he posted of himself singing was as Ariel from the Little Mermaid, so I suspect he sounds better as Jasmine here because he spent more time practicing singing like the princesses. He still does quite a bit in falsetto, though I do think he's gotten a bit better in his male voice since then.

Some more songs you should check out: One Sweet Day, all of his one mans series, all of his original works Better Days and Stairwells as well as Like a Boy. He actually sang the jingle Triple Dent Gum in Inside Out. He works for Pixar too! He does some stuff on the disney youtube channel as well. He's worked so hard over the years and is SO much better. He has done some work with Disney even which was absolutely fantastic! Also, I was quite surprised that she didn't mention his horrible habit of adding a shortened "and" in front of new phrases. It was his singing version of saying "umm", I think. It became a nasty habit and one I am so glad he finally shed! But that alone shows that he's been very conscious of his own techniques in order to improve as an artist. I have great respect for him!
