"Tonight I'm gonna dance, for all that we've been through, but I don't want to dance, if I'm not dancing with you." Is one of my favorite bridges, and I highly recommend putting on some noise cancelling headphones and dancing around your house to that part. It just feels good.

Red is considered her last country album. It was a pop-country crossover because she wanted to soft-launch into pop at the time. Then came 1989 when she went full blown pop. Red had a few tracks on country-radio, and then this re-release sent the vault track "I bet you think about me" to country-radio as well. Her song Betty from Folklore was also on country-radio.

The Last Time is a duet with Gary Lightbody (the singer from Snow Patrol), he's from Northern Ireland, you can hear the accent or as you mentioned "different pronunciation"
@bookbum199 ай бұрын
I was so waiting for you to catch the symbolism in how she does the harmony in "The Last Time." I love how at the end he sings alone for a bit. It's like he's going out on a limb, being vulnerable and asking her for the last time if they can be together. And she leaves him hanging for a bit. Then she joins in with the harmony. It's like when he's singing he's asking her, her not joining is her thinking and considering, then her joining in with the harmony is her saying "yes." Then at the end when they are singing "this is the last time I'm asking you this" it is hopeful, happy and joyful!

Holy Ground is the last of the Joe Jonas trilogy, as far as the official releases. It goes "Forever & Always" (Fearless), "Last Kiss" (Speak Now), and "Holy Ground" (Red). It documents her emotional progression after a difficult breakup from anger, to loss, to acceptance.
@rosecoloredgirl58559 ай бұрын
She is such a clever lyricist like in everything has changed in Ed's verse he says "All my walls stood tall painted blue, but I'll take them down and open up the door for you" And in chorus Taylor says "All I know is you held the door, you'll be mine and I'll be yours" 🥹🥹
@JenniferDonahue7029 ай бұрын
I never do not get chills when she sings "You call me up again just to break me like a promise," with the same note until the first syllable of "promise," only to follow with the kidney shot of "so casually cruel in the name of being honest..." which if you've experienced it sucks the wind right out of you....every time.

re: Starlight. She was dating Conor Kennedy and saw a picture of his grandparents (Bobby and Ethel) as teens, taken at a club. She asked permission to write a song about it, and Ethel gave it. The Kennedy's are a political power; and since Bobby's father Joseph was tabbed to be the first ever director of the SEC after the crash of 1929 (he knew every cheating trick used on Wall Street) they are still a very rich, rich family, albeit shaken by tragedies in the 1960's. Conor has since vanished into obscurity; he went back to college after the relationship, and Taylor sold the house she bought in Hyannis and traded up for "Holiday House," the house she has in Rhode Island. ( cf. Great American Dynasty) Odd fact: the Kennedy and Shriver families are related; Arnold Schwarzenegger married one-time newscaster Maria Shriver, and so was a Kennedy cousin (and the Republican governor of California). Must've been interesting at holiday dinners. . . .😮

23:21 you mentioned the male (Gary Lightbody) finishing the song high while Taylor finishes low. This is exactly opposite of how they start their respective parts. I’ve seen theories that Taylor did this to show that they were headed in two separate directions as the relationship is ending. Quite reminiscent of Exile, with a deep male voice starting off the song and having a central theme about a relationship coming to an end as both parties are aware of it but can’t stop it.

Has anyone ever noticed the up down tone of Taylor's "I knew you were trouble when you walked in" mimics the up down sound of a British siren? Maybe I'm thick and just hearing it for the first time. However, if this is a Haylor song, then that sound of a siren warning her in her tonal high-low is very clever. It isn't the exact tone or note of the British siren, but Taylor would mimic that.

my take on "the last time" and its highs and lows being sung by the male and female voice respectively is that it seems more like he's pleading, it's his "last time asking" because he really wants it to work out, while she's accepted the ending and has grown tired of taking him back again and again, so she wants this to be the conclusion and her "last time asking" is because she needs to put a period on this whole thing, whether it's for the best (taking him back and never leaving each other's side) or for the worse (breaking up once and for all)

in terms of the romance songs, a lot of them are about Jake Gyllenhaal. Holy Ground is about Joe Jonas. Begin Again and everything has changed are abut a guy named Conor Kennedy. Finally, Treacherous, I knew you were trouble, come back be here, message in a bottle, and the very first night are about Harry Styles
