Ballad songs here in the Philippines, especially in the 90s and early 2000s, tend to be rambly because they usually tell a story through their songs. Like this one, it's more like a love letter that was sang. In the Philippines, a great singer should also be a great storyteller, not just pure vocalist. If I remember correctly, even Regine said it before.
@jabbo0004Ай бұрын
@@bluehorizon5640 Exactly. And I think its also because Tagalog is diffrent from english and chinese so telling the story thru singing is also different, and its actually base on how we actually tell a story in Tagalog, and the reason why it is rambly, if that makes any sense. And in this song, Regine focused not only on her vocals, she is also a great storyteller.
@bluehorizon5640Ай бұрын
@jabbo0004 Yes I think so too. Words/sentences in Tagalog tend to be longer than in English too. That's why when Tagalog is translated in English it usually gets shorter. And probably why 90s and early 2000s ballad songs are also "rambly" because they use more formal or deep Tagalog words (which is usually longer) unlike these days it's shortened.

Hi! Perhaps the reason why this song is not updated so to speak is because it was popularized by another singer Nonoy Zuñiga in the eighties and was written by a respected national composer Ryan Cayabyab is why Regine somehow has to be faithful to the original version with her signature vocal acrobatics. I also feel that this long song is best appreciated if you know the lyrics of how someone so in love feels this way that day and night these lovers find the need to be together always. This is my go to karaoke song! It’s fun to play with the melody. Not sure if Regine has a video of “How could you leave” but that original song is her take on how Mariah would attack a song with do much belting! 😊

This is a ballad from the 80s that’s why it feels dated. The composer is Ryan Cayabyab, a Filipino national artist. I get what you mean about the melody, bec that’s how Sir Ryan writes his songs. Filipino music, especially love songs, reflects a deeply rooted cultural appreciation for emotion and storytelling. While some may criticize it as sounding "dated," it's important to understand the historical and cultural context. Filipinos' love for slow ballads has kept the music of the 60s through the 90s alive, with these songs often taking center stage in karaoke sessions over modern tracks with repetitive melodies. This preference shows a deep appreciation for the timeless melodies and heartfelt lyrics of that era. Filipino love songs are also heavily influenced by the tradition of “harana” and “kundiman” or serenades, which are emotional, poetic expressions of love. These songs build up slowly, focusing on lyrical depth and melodic progression rather than repetition. While this style may sound unusual or even dull to Western listeners, to Filipino ears, it is soothing and profoundly expressive. This connection to tradition and emotion sets Filipino music apart, making it a unique reflection of the culture's values and history.

I think it sounds dated because it is indeed an old song. If I'm not mistaken, the original version was recorded in the 70s and Regine's version, that exact version on the video, was released in 2003 or 2004.
@poltes5Ай бұрын
This song was originally in the male voice sung by Filipino balladeer Nonoy Zuniga. This is a typical format for many Filipino ballads, especially this one which has a good melodic tone and romantic lyrics. In the current era when there are no serenades anymore, everything too fast paced, and oftentimes senseless lyrics, being able to re-visit this older Pilipino songs is a good reminder what good music was truly like. That is why it truly helps, especially when you react to Filipino ballads, try to find the english translation then you will understand better why it is being sung as such. Also Filipino word conjugations tend to be quite long words so it is often needed to carry on a longer melodic flow. MS. RVA has been a inspiration to many of the current vocalists especially those who do belting performances. MS. RVA's staying power in the music industry is quite a feat of its own. She is very suportive of new/other artists as well, gladly doing duets or group performances.

Araw-Gabi 1986. It's an old song Nonoy Zuniga's song "Araw Gabi," written by Ryan Cayabyab, was released in 1986 and is one of his most iconic ballads. Its heartfelt lyrics and melody made it a classic in Filipino music. The song showcases Zuniga's powerful vocal range and emotional depth, contributing to its enduring popularity. Regine Velasquez performed her rendition of "Araw Gabi" in 2004, and it was featured on her album Covers, Vol. 1. Her version brought a fresh take to the Ryan Cayabyab classic with her signature vocal prowess and heartfelt delivery.
