And while his voice did change as he aged, it never really degraded (the way Rob Halford's or Geoff Tate's did, for example). Whatever Ronnie was doing, it worked for him, and it didn't damage his voice.

I saw Ronnie with Vivian in 1984 in Honolulu when I was stationed there in the Army. Dokken were the opening act. Awesome show. The last time was the Heaven and Hell show in Grand Prairie Texas. Machine Head and Megadeth were also on the bill. Rex Brown from Pantera, Dime's girl Rita Haney, and Vinnie Paul's drum tech Kat were in the lobby . Epic Metal night for me. Hard Rock and Metal rule.

It cracks me up to hear someone questioning how healthy Dio's technique was. The man's singing career lasted over 50 years (1957-2008) and he was as powerful near his death as the many times I saw him live in his last 20 years. He commanded and technique obeyed.

Very samey (music) and for whatever reason have been very quiet through the years, and it’s a shame because he might’ve gotten more attention that he deserves elsewhere (not knocking Manowar, but they haven’t really been giving him really enough chance to show off) I think a side project or a solo band might’ve made him stand out a bit more.

I love Ronnie James Dio. One of the best metal vocalists of all times. I've pickup up my first DIO album in the middle of the 90s without knowing him or his band. I know, as a Sabbath fan, shame on me. I've put it on and I was blown away. I've listened to nothing else for the next few weeks and little else for the next few months. I literally took this CD with me to show it to my friends and have them play it for me while I was there. RJD was a complete master. Damn great range, complete control, he sang everything with his whole being. And his theatrics - so fun to watch him. If you like rock you can't dislike Dio, it's just not possible. He was tiny but one of the greatest.

Love this video. Dio... I loved how he put everything out there on the stage. No matter hwo many shows he did he would give everyone 115% and sing with such passion and emotion. Dickinson, Dio and Halford are the trinity of vocalists, I feel, Dio is the best of them all. Live Evil is a double live album from Black Sabbath... 1982 I believe, and it is just a clinic all the way through

Completely agree with you on the trinity. I would add Tim "Ripper" Owens as a runner-up tho. Anyone can play anybody's song(s) live, but if they put it on a dvd/blu ray; they will have to pay royalties to the musician or band that they covered. Unless they wrote the song from a their former band, then they won't have to pay royalties. Ozzy sang Sabbath songs. So many musicians cover others songs. It's a tribute.
