I love that Shawn has found himself in the folk-rock/country-folk genre that I adored as a teenager in the late 60's and early 70's. The music video is a visual delight, too. It perfectly complements the raw, heartfelt emotion of the song. Right from the opening frame, you are drawn into a story about Shawn's emotional vulnerabilities. The musical chirping of crickets at the end of the video simultaneously invokes a sense of calm and optimism.

his whole album is incredible and is more of this.. basically, all like this. there's some absolute gems - it's a lot of vulnerability and story-telling about the last couple of years. he's put himself through it and seems like he's come through the other side a lot better for it. there's some other great songs off the album - "the mountain," "heavy" and his cover of "hallelujah" are some of my faves. love your reactions as always tristan.

Admittingly I stepped away from Shawn Mendes' music by around 2019, since this song has come out I've been begging for more. I love folk and folk/pop music a lot and feel Shawn's voice fits it very nicely.
