I thought it was so interesting when at the end of Miss Americana Taylor reassured herself for the VMA performance by saying "No one in the audience actively hates me." I think the crowd she's singing to has a HUGE impact on how the performance will go and that's why her best performances are with fans and her worst are with award shows

As a new 2021 swiftie, when I listened to her discography in order. I noticed a huge change from 1989 to Rep. Her vocals deepened and were so much smoother for Rep. She may not be the best vocalist but you can tell she has gotten a lot better.
@anasarracena2 жыл бұрын
I'm a 2019 swiftie and I noticed it too!!! Her 1989 vocals sound a bit annoying to me, but her rep vocals are fire. "Don't blame me" is a great example
@prophetessoftroy Жыл бұрын
I'm gonna feel super old here being an '08 Swiftie lol but I tend to agree. Her vocals evolved a ton from her teens into adulthood, but I think she gave herself permission between 1989 and rep to really embrace her lower register and the darker colors in her range rather than trying to stay bright and poppy. I think she's a solid vocalist--she doesn't have the belt or the range of Adele of Christina, or the dynamics of Ariana, but she has a lot of character when she sings and she always brings everything to the table. If nothing else, I think she deserves a ton of respect for that.

Great video. I would like to add the following. Taylors songs are hard to sing beautifully. What I mean by this is that your voice doesn't get an opportunity to 'shine' when you sing them, like in songs by for example Adele. Adele has a beautiful voice but her songs also provide opportunity for her voice to shine at its brightest. The high notes are exactly comfortable for her, there is a lot of room to breathe etc. This is also why (I think) a lot of people cover songs by Adele, not songs by Taylor. Because they are about the lyrics, the story, maybe even the nice melody, but they are not meant to make her voice shine. Also about the breath control: hers might seem bad, but most of her songs give you so little time to breathe. Try to sing love story or wildest dreams for example, it's much harder to keep your breath control in comparison to songs from other artists. I think this really says something about Taylor and the things she finds important in the songs she writes.
@sherlockrosary Жыл бұрын
Uhhhh you can say that again. I had a little too much wine before my karaoke turn on “Trouble;” GIRL. That tempo ran right out from underneath me, I tanked at least the first stanza right in front of all my professional music colleagues. 😅 Woof. I'm not a swifty, just a casual listener. I've always thought about taylor in terms of her lyricism rather than her vocals, but recently she gave concerts here in Argentina and it was a huge thing on twitter. So I checked many videos and I was pleasantly surprised with her vocals and stage presence, like she looks super comfortable and mature now. And I'm talking about fan recordings, so there's no post-production in her vocals.

Starting really with Folklore, Taylor has written more for herself as a vocalist and therefore the vocals are within a range that suits her voice, rather than trying to fit her vocals with the vocal demands of pop radio a la Red, 1989, or even some Lover moments (she won't hit every note in Cruel Summer, for example, but not that anyone cares). Tell your friend she is fuckin pretty and has amazing lips and hair.

It's so funny for me to see this video because well... When I first found about Taylor and started listining to her music (fearless era) I really loved that she doesn't sound perfect. That she is no Beyonce. That her lyrics can bring her where great vocals brings others (or maybe even further). It made her more approachable, more like me - regular person without god-like talent. ^^' And nowadays I really think she improved immensly, especially her lower register in folklore and evermore era impressed me. But oh well, I also made a progress as a human being, so she still is on the same page with us - her fans :)

Hey Zach: Speaking of Taylor’s best vocals, I just found her acoustic performance with piano of Out Of The Woods at the Grammy Museum 2015. Our Queen sounded just outstanding IMHO! I assume you’ve heard it here on youtube? Opinion? And Wildest Dreams with guitar at that same concert sounds equally good. Or should we assume that these vocals were tweaked before being released, as with other live shows, as Cherie educated us about. Was Taylor just very pretty?😮

Taylor sounds like an angel when she sings during softer acoustic seesions such as the long pond. Question for Cherie: what exactly do those earpieces do for singers? Are there different kinds, with different functions? I know that Taylor has said that she has heard from her band manager through one when she had technical troubles, but also aren’t there things in there to help musicians hear themselves in a way that they stay on pitch?
@weareslayn2 жыл бұрын
hey ingrid! they’re called in-ear monitors, and they are basically earphones. you can choose what you want more in your earpiece - for example your voice to be louder, or the guitars or your music director’s voice. yes they’re meant to help for large stages so they can hear the music director’s instructions/ count in or themselves more clearly, but sometimes it’s just uncomfortable and takes getting used to, especially if the engineer screwed the levels up which happens sometimes!
