From classical to growl in seconds?!?? That's when the REAL WONDER WOMAN SINGS!!!

Two things that rarely work for me are daytime/daylight sets and festival sound mixes. The drums are way to high in the mix but he is a good drummer. Having said that i could watch Floor painting a wall all day long and still enjoy myself.

Yeahe, I think not a lot of band setup compare to what Nightwish has recorded live with Floor, you just don't get that quality anywhere else, so in comparision everything else sort of sound heh on the sonic aspect ^.^

Not many good recordings of this live. Most requests for this are so they can see that Floor is doing the growls.

I think it's hard for any metal band to really put their best foot forward in that kind of situation. The sound and the atmosphere are all just kinda...wrong for the genre. Always impressed when a band can make it work anyway, and Revamp definitely does!

Festival recordings are renowned for being awful. Nightwish brought their own film crew for the Wacken 2013 show

Great to see your reaction to this one. I think I can offer an explanation for why Floor's growling sounds more like her singing voice than Tatiana's growling: Floor's growling is done (I believe) using false cord screaming technique, while Tatiana uses fry scream technique. Because of the difference in how the two are done, fry screaming tends to have a lot more white noise and overtones in it than false cord screaming does, and false cord screaming will tend to preserve some of the resonant qualities of a person's normal singing voice. If anyone is curious about it, another vocal coach on KZbin called MaryZ has a great video on false cord screaming vs fry screaming technique.

I'm not very familiar with growl/scream vocal techniques in general so that's really interesting for you to bring that up, gives me a bit of a ground to start from to research! Thanks a lot for sharing that! :D

@KataklysM She may have said so in an interview, but her screaming in Pisces simply does not sound at all like false cord screaming. It doesn't have the open resonant sound produced by the vocal cords remaining open, and she does not have to take breaths as often as you would expect with false cord screaming. Conversely, her screaming on that song clearly has the white noise and overtones of fry screaming. I prefer to believe the evidence of my ears.

Hi Elvann, welcome back! Thanks for the reaction! Some how her ReVamp music was more related to what she used to do with After Forever.. And what you mentioned is what I love from her, she is not only a great singer, she portray and transmit emotions and make you feel the song more, have a great day and Merry Christmas!

Hello Elvann, once again you have made a very nice reaction and interesting analysis! I've waited for.this song and have been very curious too, because I also havn't heard it before...Very stunning indeed how Floor can unexpectidly switch from her rock voice to operatic style to growl and back within the shortest time! But of course it's Floor, what more to say...

Nice reaction. The moment where she goes from fully operatic to deep growls and then back to normal is stunning. It's like taking two 180 degree turns in a row. The sound isn't great but it's the only recording where you can hear her growling so clearly and get a clear view on it as well.

This album was being written and recorded when she got the call from Nightwish and they delayed the release until Floor had finished her commitments. Floor actually did bits of the album in her spare time whilst in the Nightwish.

I think the difference in performance style has to do with the song writer. With Nightwish, she's acting out someone else's song, with ReVamp she wrote/co-wrote her own songs. This is more Floor than what Tuomas writes.

Revamp 👀 #Jeuh i love to see Floor use her versatility(??) to the fullest... After Forever was for me the 1st band that I saw her in. Revamp I haven't seen a lot of, but It is always good! To go from classical to growling and back to her "normal" voice, is beyond me 🥰 how well she does that without any flaw(??). Thnx for this Elvann 👍 Good to see that your back at Reacting 😘 and the interruptions doesn't matter to me, extra info or your view/take on it, is 1 of the reasons one makes a reaction video. I'm just guessing here...😁 As always...Have fun...👊

Early ReVamp was my intro to Floor. Additionally I was always a bit surprised no one knew she could growl (Nightwish fans mostly) until I realized they probably never listened to ReVamp.
@treintje10015 жыл бұрын
No, most Nightwish fans probably don't know much about her past. She didn't growl in After Forever, the guitarist did. I'm not sure why she started to do it in Revamp, but i think it may have been because she had no one else who could do it. Or maybe she just wanted to experiment. Fun fact: one of the fans has mentioned asking her at the time: I didn't know you could growl? Floor's answer: Neither did I ;-).
@imcherylynn5 жыл бұрын
@treintje1001 I do know about After Forever and the vocal dynamic there, so it makes perfect sense that she wouldn’t have done it while they were still a group. As for why she started to in ReVamp, I don’t even know the answer, but I don’t really think it matters cause I’m happy she did it. I do also recall reading that story somewhere, can’t remember where I read it or who said it.

Good to see you again! 😋 Does the weather - temperature, humidity, wind - have an adverse effect when performing outside?
@ElvannReacts5 жыл бұрын
Yeaheee it does! I once played outside as it was raining, not the greatest experience for anybody, but especially for stage musicians, even if we were technically covered, the floor would receive droplets and become slippery, and we still fear for out equipements. Humidity makes it also harde to perform in general. ^^
@ChrisPage685 жыл бұрын
@@ElvannReacts I guessed it would be humidity. But she'd happily sing in the face of a hurricane. 🤣
@Immortall14085 жыл бұрын
That transition was a good idea. Floor would probably not sound as herself that much, if they had time for a bit of post-processing of her harsh vocals. Delay and reverb can help to a certain extent. :-)
@johnsoma64855 жыл бұрын
Tatiana seems to punch in an effect channel for her growling sections, the same as a guitarist will punch effects in and out for solos. I am all for it. The engineers for Nightwish seem to leave Floor's growls dry, and don't even bump her gain on the growl sections. I always found that frustrating at Nightwish live shows.

Welcome back. If you think that Nightwish is very dramatic, you need to react to Iron Maiden's Rime of the Ancient Mariner, flight 666 or Rio 2001 for some singing in character. Or Shaman Fairy Tale live. Or Blind Guardian Valhalla live. Or Manowar Battle Hymn (band reunion video at lucivaldo oliveira). At least, pardon me if I'm wrong, got the idea you're very unfamiliar with power metal, wich is a shame as it is symphonic metal's older brother.
@ElvannReacts5 жыл бұрын
I know them, but I still think Nightwish's writing is very dramatic ;) Doesn't mean other bands can't be also dramatic, it's just one way to describe Nightwish
@luisnunes20105 жыл бұрын
@@ElvannReacts Still say your reaction video(s) would be a lot of fun, Elvann. :-) Two sidenotes: if you loved Floor's Romanticide, you'll love Fairy Tale; and no vocal coach reacted to Eric Adams so far, wich is a damn shame. First reactions to Manowar can be hilarious, but one can't have everything... ;-)

Yes Revamp is different than Nightwish. It is heavier. This really is not a very good video. She did a song for Revamp with Devin Townsend as a guest. The song is called Nuersthania. The lyric video is the best. Of course there will not be a live one with Devin. Even though that would be cool. :-) You are making complete sense. Great breakdown................

I've been a heavy/power/speed metal fan since the early eighties. I liked Floor, I liked Nightwish, and the combination of the two (and Troy) instantaneous made it by far my fav band since 2012. But this just sounds just mediocre to me. Nothing special and foremost just boring. The way I see it, is that Floor needed this phase to evolve to become the Valkyrie she is now in the greatest band of the world.
@brunokingz5 жыл бұрын
Well, you don't need to be special all the time.. you just need to have fun, and Floor had it, so for me, never will be boring :D
@treintje10015 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's mediocre. It's not epic either, but it is solid. Floor indeed learned some new vocal techniques in Revamp so yes, it definitely helped her to grow. But in all reality Floor has always been eager to learn. She has done so ever since she started with After Forever. And I think she is still learning and she will keep on learning. Even the last album Endless forms Most Beautiful posed some challenges for her where she mentioned that she had to learn to sing in a softer style.
@bikeaholic63865 жыл бұрын
This does sound mediocre, but it's not the band's fault, it's the sound straight from the mix desk that is so flat sounding. There is a full Revamp set filmed from the audience on youtube that sounds so much better than this, you can hear the fullness of the music and vocals a lot better and is a much better sounding performance. I would have loved to have seen this band live but I am a few years late to the party, but I love both their albums and they are both on my heavy rotation playlists
