Domingo and Dimash are on the judging panel. They sang a duet because they wanted to. They were NOT being judged. The contestants were child and teen virtuosos from several countries in Eastern Europe.

Dimash would never try to out sing his duet partner. No matter who it is, let alone one of the greats. Placido was one of his idols growing up. This was filmed for the Virtuosos talent show in Hungary. Both Placido and Dimash were judges on that panel, but they also decided to sing a duet together. Respect is engrained within Dimash. Placido was also the one to suggest a song together and he said, he no longer can hit those high notes. So he would sing the baritone part.

Thank you. They were both judges in the Virtuoso show. Placido turned 83yrs soon after this and Dimash will be 30 in May. The song is about 2 lifelong friends who fall in love with the same woman. They decide that their friendship is too important and they leave the woman and vow to be friends until death.

Placido Domingo, born Jan. 21, 1941 and Dimash, born May 24, 1994 singing this classic duet on December 10, 2023. So there's 53 years between them, let that sink in for a moment. This was a dream come true for Dimash. He shared that, at the age of 5, he had a VHC of a concert of Maestro Domingo and dreamed from that time to meet and work with him. I am sure that Dimash appreciated the opportunity to be a judge at the Virtuoso program that supports young classical artists at the invitation of Maestro Domingo. Many bel canto teachers have verified that Dimash brings a cross interpretation between rigid classical singing (which must follow norms and exactly as the author of the piece wrote, from the notes and durations, the portamentos, the expressiveness... Everything) and much more popular flexibility. For purists, let's remember that Dimash had the dream of singing with Plácido Domingos since he was a child and it was the Maestro himself, Don Domingos, who suggested the duet (he knew that even with classical training, Dimash would sing as a cross between classical and pop )! Dimash only had one day to remember the work and make the recording, as this moment is part of the competition (like a talent show) for children with musical talent: The “Virtuosos”! Dimash, as well as Placido Domingos, were part of the Jury, accompanied by Erika Miklósa (opera singer), Adrás Keller (violinist, conductor and musical director of the Budapest Concert), Hauser (cellist), Plácido Domingos Jr. (singer and composer), Pablo Sanz Villegas (classical guitarist), Gabriela Rachid (cultural director) and Harvey Goldsmith (music promoter)! The show was in Budapest (Hungary) from January 16th to 26th this year, 2024!

While I totally agree that Dimash usually mixes vocal styles in one song. Of course the reason is because he seldom sings any Operatic or Classical pieces. However in this performance in which he performed with Maestro Placido Domingo, he sang it in a strictly Operatic style which perfectly matched Placido and the text of the piece.

@@HappybdD_mash5-24 I am an opera scholar… I know what I’m talking about. They should have done one of the duets from the golden age of musical theatre. Simply singing the notes as written by composer (and he is not doing that either, he does not pay attention to some of the dynamic markings in the score) isn’t enough to consider it a good performance. Domingo isn’t that great in this either but then again his voice has been gone for a long time. Long before he started to sing baritone. You can use your logic of ‘xyz singer did this for decades so they must be right on all accounts’ but it does not make it right. There’s been hundreds of singers who fit that criteria and even better ones and that didn’t make them more right in that case either (referencing Montsy Caballé…).

Esta presentación de estos grandes genios, se dió a raíz de su participación como jurados en el programa Virtuosos, competencia para encontrar a los mejores en el campo clásico, ya sea tocando un instrumento, o bien en canto. Esto fue en el mes de diciembre de 2023. Dimash fue invitado para ser jurado, junto al maestro Plácido Domingo, su hijo Plácido junior, el famoso chelista Hauser y otros. Cuando Plácido conoce a Dimash, se pone muy feliz pues ya ha escuchado de él, y le pide a Dimash que hagan un dueto, y bueno, se da está épica presentación de El pescado de perlas de Biaset. Y como dicen, Dimash es un joven sumamente talentoso, un virtuoso del canto y de Ka mú6, pero además es todo un profesional, sumamente respetuoso y acá él se adapta al maestro, a su canto. Jamás pensar en opacarlo o tratar de hacer cosas habilidosas y alcanzar niveles fuera de serie con su voz, cuando tampoco lo requiere la pieza musical. Para Dimash fue un sueño de niño que se vio cumplido, como él mismo lo dijo. Y para nosotros sus Dears, y creo que para todos en general, fue exquisito escuchar a este magnífico dueto. Just to clarify... Dimash has stated that he practices 3-4 hrs/day not 8. He's disciplined and dedicated to his trade and when he's in Kazakh, he trains with his teacher and when he's away he always finds a teacher and at a minimum, trains alone.

Yikes. I’d hate to hear a person’s voice if they sang 8 hours a day. But they say he swims to develop breath control and I wouldn’t be surprised if he does other things that are NOT singing but do develop the “muscles” he needs for singing, if that makes sense. Totally agree-I love Dimash singing in this style and also in his lower register. So much of his music is built around his high range because it’s so unusual to hear a man hit those notes, and not only hit them but sound better than most women hitting them. But his voice is just so silky and warm and beautiful right here. It’s nice to hear. Great reaction!

The show is called Virtuosos and is a classical music competition for children. Dimash and Placido are judges. When Placido andvDimash met Placido suggested a duet together, but he needed to sing baritone parts now as his voice has changed. There is another video of a group song with one child contestant and other panel members. It’s not as good as the duet between Placido and Dimash. What it does have is Dimash with Placido son, and his voice is virtually the same as is dad, so it’s good to gauge what a duet between Placido Snr and Dimash would have been like when he was still able to sing tenor.

Decemberben rendezték meg Budapestem immár 9. alkalommal a Virtuózok komoly zenei vetélkedőt, ahol nagyon tehetséges gyerekek versenyeznek. Minden évben adnak a zsűri tagjai egy-egy közös produkciót a gyerekeknek, és a nézőknek. Ebben az évben Dimasht is meghívták a zsűribe. A Maestro ötlete volt, hogy szeretne egy duettet énekelni Dimash-al. ezért felvették ezt a darabot. Mindössze 1 nap volt a megtanulására, és az előadásra is valamikor hajnalban került sor, mert egyszerrre vették fel a két döntőt. Jövőre rendezik a 10. éves jubileumi versenyt. Dimasht ismét meghívták, valamint meghívták a zsűribe Jose Carrerast is, aki el is vállalta azt. Csodálatosak voltak a versenyző gyerekek, igazi géniuszok.

Placido Domingo is Spanish, he was born and his family moved to Mexico when he was 8, that’s where he finished growing up. Dimash was classically trained from the age of 5. He has a masters degree in music, he is not just a singer but a talented musician. Dimash does not over sing any one whether it’s a seasoned singer like Placido or a child he’s singing with. Dimash practices 3 hours when he can. Dimash still has a vocal coach and says if Pavarotti can have a coach at 70, so can he! Placido was introduced to Dimash’s singing by his 18 year old grandson. He was just as happy to meet Dimash as Dimash was to meet him. Placido was the one who suggested the duet and Dimash said that singing with Placido would fulfill a dream of his. It turned out beautifully. By the way, Dimash does not hit those high notes in every song he sings, there are exceptions! I think he does more of it because his fans seem to love it so. 😊

Oba pěvci byli v porotě v soutěži mladých hudebních talentů Virtuosov V4 v Budapešti. Placido požádal Dimashe o duet, protože jej zná od svého 18 letého vnuka. One of the spectators was Hauser, who is a renowned cellist. He played Ave Maria on cello as Dimash sang. It was beautiful. Another opera duet Dimash did was with Sundet Baigozhin “Tu Vas Me Detruire”. Dimash was younger and drowned out Sundet a bit but it's amazing. If you haven't heard Olympico (I'll have to check your videos) that's Dimash having a duet with himself. If you've seen it you know what I mean.

I grew up listening to Jussi Björling singing this duet. Just wow.... My father was an opera singer. He said that some operasingers said it is difficult for them to sing softly. According to him they were not good singers then.

Que reacción tan mediocre, lo que me quedo claro fue ( y que no le había prestado atención anteriormente) , es que dicen gustarle Dimash, pero muestran lo contrario. Dimash no vive en la estratósfera, vive aquí en la tierra, educándose y capacitando sus habilidades, no solo vocales, sino también estudiando y descubriendo nuevas técnicas y capacidades, y todo lo que implica para hacer bien lo que ama hacer, ; tampoco vive practicando 8 horas diarias, ubíquense y hagan su tarea, Carlos me desespera, me parece que el es mucho tilin-tilin y nada de paletas. He anulado mi suscripción y lamento haber perdido mi tiempo con "Vocal Coaches" como ustedes dos, que no sienten respeto por el artista ni por sus subcriptores !

Not bizar and certainly not a departure for Dimash either. He was classically trained after all. He respects Placido Domingo to no end, and this was a dream come true for him. They only had one day before to get this song down, because Placido asked Dimash to sing an opera song with him. Was it perfect, no, was it moving and beautiful on multiple levels, YES!!!

If someone really sings opera professionally, no improvisation is allowed. That's why Dimash turned down an offer to be an opera singer many years ago. Dimash himself said in the past he is singing per day 3-4 h just as an exercise.

Están ante uno de los mejores tenores de la historia (es español!) como Plácido Domingo quien tiene 83 años, junto a nuestro imbatible Dimash, que está por cumplir 30 años. Hey, guys, your video was WAYYYYY off. Just saying. It just didn't match the singing, itself. 8 hours a day? People do tend to make up stuff, don't they? Dimash actually studies UP TO 3 hours per day. He does practice, just not 8 hours, which is impossible. Dimash is always the thoughtful gentleman, who never outshines anyone on purpose. It's almost like when he sang with Ida and Lara...he could have easily gone over them, but he perfectly complemented them and let them have their own shine, too. Thanks for your reaction. We just ADORE Dimash.

As an opera fan... this was pretty bad... wobbly and without a proper cover on the top. Domingo despite improper form and voice not being there at all anymore still sounded far more fitting. Should've chosen a pop duet, not ruining a Bizet piece.
