I really really wonder what the text says in the middle. Were they fleeing the other side of that island because they had so little food, or were they about to be arrested? Did they get shot because they wanted to cross the line that diverted the two, or because they wanted to go to the empire? Why do they call it a journey, to lighten things up a bit?

I'm guessing they're journeying to the other side of the island, a soldier hots at them and the girl dies, the journey that the boy planned is a plan to start a new life on a new land.. however the country was at war that time..
