1:49 I knew about this but haven't really paid attention to it. My mental model was "the river has to collect material from a long distance and then concentrate it at the right place", when there in fact only has to be a lot of concentration regardless of length! Explains why I saw someone finding gold on a creek that's literally 500 m long. Thanks Chris!

There is a Paris in Arkansas? I had heard of Paris, Texas, but not Arkansas? Naturally, we all know of, and many people have visited Paris, France, The City of Light, and home to the Eiffel Tower! I visited Paris with my family when I was four, and apparently, I would ride on the front of my brother's pusher while doing my best imitation of a Paris Gendarme police car racing around with the siren blaring. 😊 I must have been pretty convincing as the Parisians would clear the footpath for us to go through.😂😂😂😂 I could also speak enough French to order the days baguette for lunch from the bakery. I lost the ability to speak French when in primary school. I also visited the Beaches of Normandy for the 25th Anniversary of D-Day. We left Paris by jet and landed in LA just as Neill Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were landing on the Moon. 1969 was quite a year! Mark from Melbourne Australia

This is an honest question: Couldn't you use your bucket sieve and leave the 2/3 or more weight of empty rocks there where you're digging - then carry the equiv of several shovels-full in one half-filled 5 gal bucket? Is it really quicker to carry all the big rocks each shovel load? Is it a TIME thing?

You should make a hybrid version of the wood and plastic pan. Cut a couple rings in the bottom of the wood pan and maybe one or two half way up. Should still work the same but maybe keep the stuff thats more likely to escape from aggessive panning in the bottom.

A $100k for a permit? 😮 Most public claims in the U.S. are around $5,000 for a 20 acres (A little over 8 hectares), if you're buying it from a private owner. If the claim fee isn't paid every year, the claim is considered "abandoned" and can be claimed for around $300, plus $180/year to hold the claim.
