I'm guessing it'd have something to do with knowing how you body (more specifically mouth) makes sound. You know? Talk to yourself more. Learn how to control your voice more. Singing helps because the way you sound changes slightly.

I used to use the throat shaking thing to do the underwater scene from Pinocchio where they are searching for geppetto and it worked great but then one day I did it too much and my voice literally got stuck randomly doing it in spurts for like a half hour but it felt weird for about an hour or so and my brother could not stop laughing even though I was worried it wouldn't go away. True story. It works just don't do it too much.
