Favianna Rodriguez and crew join the fearless riders of the Undocubus as they arrive in Charlotte, NC -- while the media spotlight shines on the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Artist Julio Salgado explains why the Undocubus activists are there to protest. Later, as the city sleeps, Favianna and a team of artists hit the streets on a clandestine postering mission. As the Undocubus riders plan a direct action protest, artist César Maxit explains the butterfly art he has created to help them express their messages. Favianna, Rosario Dawson and a large crowd join Undocubus riders as they stage their dramatic sit-in street blockade designed to send a message to the President before he accepts his nomination for a 2nd term.

Because for every End this is an infinite number of Means, and while championing an End is noble, unless you advocate a specific Mean to accomplish that End, you're really just whistling into the wind.

This is great. So great. So glad seeing VoA take this art movement on, i know of most of these artists and love them. Im looking at a poster from the Undocunation event and an original Melanie Cervantes screen print right now. Love love love. Migration is natural. Tear down the walls. Decolonize everything. Sidenote: I always wondered how Rosario Dawson ended up holding that banner.

i think it goes beyond "humane immigration policy" they touched on very beautiful concepts like: migration is natural, borders are lies and imposed, love, art, liberation, family, a better world, justice, human/civil rights, music, healing, solidarity, struggle, organizing etc and etc... i am sad that this seems vague some people, there is a world outside capitalism.

I agree to an extent. Alot of those jobs were what high school and college aged students did. When I was younger, everybody mowed their own lawns (or payed neighborhood kids for it). Then the neighborhoods started contracting "landscaping companies" and people stopped mowing their lawns all together (reduction of lawn mower/lawn supply sales, etc). People may think they're too good for factory jobs, but ALOT of people don't (factory jobs are still liked by many Americans today).

I'm interested in the dialog being presented here but I'm having a hard time understanding the message other than a vague demand for "humane immigration policy". What concrete changes are these activists advocating other than the removal of laws they see as being influenced by racial hate?

Im glad this video is calling the immigration issue what it is, racist! This whole country was founded on illegal immigration yet for some reason there are certain ethnic groups being singled out and they dont get a pardon. My husband is from New Zealand and he was undocumented the whole time we were dating. No one ever gave him flack for his undocumented status because we was white. In fact he was in amazing demand because he is such a hard worker (like many other illegal immigrants).

By the way, Immigrants take jobs that most people tend to think "they're too good for" such as agricultural jobs, factories, construction, and landscaping.

Their demonstration is THE means by which they're advocating change. However, perhaps they should be drafting up a bill, however, to present to their local officials or federal officials. Most of these people, nonetheless, spend the majority if not all of their time struggling just to get by... We need an alternative to government, though, to be in any way progressive. Government fails on all levels too often.

It's so disappointing that public outrage is, for the most part, contingent to accomplishing anything in any way progressive in politics nowadays.

i think there are lots of different trends/strategies/means to push for immigration reform and they range from evangelicals, indigenous nations, unions etc. this campaign seem to be targeting Obama to hold him accountable for his reform promise it seems they are using direct action, peaceful civil disobedience, music ala MLK/civil rights movement, but they are also trying to bring attention to all the unjust laws by giving voice to those most affected, theres lots of liesandhate around this issu

When I said I was having a hard time grasping their message, I was referring to their underlining political message. I get their ethical position (no more racially-influenced laws, stop breaking up families thru deportation, etc), but it's their means of seeing those ethical reforms realized that's hazy to me. In other words, what are they advocating the government do to help them realize their ideal process of immigration?

But isn't the real problem why they are immigrating in the first place. How are any of the issues that they are running from going to be solved by fleeing. Those issues will remain for those who come after them. How about instead of fighting the regulations in this country they stay and fight the regulations in their own country. Migration might be natural but we live in the time of boarders and ownership this is not hundreds of years ago. We r not butterflies and change can't come from running.

I LOVE this video and fully support migration. It's natural and a human right. Immigration laws should not be targeting certain groups, but we all know how our policing system is racist and always has been. Keep up the fight! Peace and Love.

That's a lie. It can be fixed with a lot of hard work and a few lives but it can be fixed. You ever heard of the saying " You can do anything if you put your mind to it". I like how that applies to everything else except situations that could get you killed.
