Having played all 3 games myself I definitely agree that The Beasts of Burden was a bit of a disappointing after The Forsaken Maiden. Not only was the story shorter, but it was also just as easy if not easier than the first game. I got a rank 3 Wasp card very early on and used it all the way to the end because it was so busted. I would be surprised if this was the last game since there is so much of this world left to explore and The Forsaken Maiden showed they can really step up their game if they wanted to. Even if we go by cosmetic dlcs there is still Drakengard 1 and 3 as potential costume options and it wouldn't be a Yoko Taro series without the Watchers showing up at some point.

I also got some powerful cards early, so yeah. Pretty easy combat this time around hahah. You may have a point when it comes to the DLC packs. I know at this point, the “NieR” stuff is covered, but hopefully they will go into Drakengard. Only time will tell.

I could see that for sure. Forsaken Maiden is my favorite by a mile, but I think Beasts of Burden has the best characters and story.

@@digitalhauntology I honestly liked forsaken maiden but the main character was too plain in contrast with the other main characters

Yeah, I can agree with you there. I think I just liked all of the supporting cast quite a bit. And I thought the end game content was particularly strong in FM.

Intrigued to watch this - it was your review of the second one that encouraged me to get it, after having found the first one merely OK (and a bit of a disappointment given Taro's previous games)

That’s really cool to hear. I hope I didn’t steer you wrong. What was your opinion on the second?

I only played the first one but felt disappointed, it seemed to me like taro wasn’t very involved with writing it, and like it was just a dumbed down version of the story of nier gestalt. I’m glad this series is probably over, so that yoko taro can work on something else.

I’m eagerly awaiting whatever he does next. I really did like the second VOC quite a bit though.

I really don’t see how the first one is comparable to NieR: Gestalt, aside from maybe one twist.

1. combat too easy 2. bland story 3. bland characters 4. having a chance to get a chest selection to have a chance of getting a monster card TO HAVE A CHANCE of getting high-stars of that monster card SUCKS Amazing how this series manage to get worse and worse every time 1 > 2 > 3 1 is the most unpolished but with the most soul on every aspect.

I hear you. I think 2 worked the most for me, and 1 was definitely charming. But this third one, and the card system… what a bummer way to end this current trilogy.
