She's also imitating Louis Armstrong with her articulations. The music also sounds like that New Orleans Brass Band sound, featuring a trumpet solo, which Quincy Jones suggests is a Louis Armstrong musical reference.

Nobody has been able to capture the instrumentations produced by Quincy Jones or how Mabel King delivered! The elements of gospel, jazz (her improv bebop scating was chef’s kiss) and soul infused into this selection have been unmatched. I’ve seen the Wiz play versions and nobody has come CLOSE to Ms. King.

I saw this movie at the Paris Theatre Hay St Mall Perth, West Australia in 1979, somehow before the MGM 1938 classic or Baum's books, I was born in 1963. What can I say, Dianna Ross, Michael Jackson, host of Wonderful American Black performers all strung together by the inconcurable Quincy Jones. I immediately went & bought the double record album book that I still have to this day. Back then, I loved the music, performances & sets, OZ NYC, especially The Brookly Bridge with yellow brick road on the front of the LP. Now, in my older life I listen to the lyrics, brilliantly written observation of 1970s Black America. Has life being improved for Black American people since 1979?
