Jessie Mueller was perfect for the role and provided the gold standard in performing (acting and singing) this song and as Jenna. Morissette and Shoshana really made it their own with such emotional impact and beautiful storytelling. Special props to Morissette to actually be compared amongst extraordinary broadway stars. Awesome reaction, Rachel!

Mad respect for Sarah for writing this musical. Jessie, of course, well, she’s very fabulous. I do like her version in rehearsals more somehow though but this is the Tony’s so context is important. Morisette’s vocals is stunning, as usual. I love Shoshana too, she cuts deep. No ranking for me. They’re all wonderful. I’m just so proud Morisette can share this stage with the best of the them.

That's how I feel too! For Morissette to be included here with all these Broadways heavyweights is no small feat considering this reactor is also a vocal coach and I think she is practically an expert on musicals. But let's face it. Filipino singers are now gracing international concert halls and theaters around the world, e.g., Lea Salonga, Rachelle Ann Go, Eva Noblezada, Carla Laforteza, Leila Florentino et al. Morissette surely can match vocally and in acting with these names I mentioned.

Wow, I wasn’t breathing when Morissette was holding those big notes and long phrases! LOL. Amazing Morissette! It’s not easy to sing musical theatre because it’s like there’s a rule that you cannot just casually sing it - you’d have to give justice to it for it to have a life (if not, it’ll sound limp no matter how beautiful the voice is). She used to be mine is one of my fave musical theatre songs, and Jessie’s performance is an absolute gem (she makes my insides hurt in a good way) in this song. Morissette, i feel has really progressed musically and artistically also. I’m a huge fan of Mori for years, and I’d have to say that this was exquisitely delivered! Amazing job Mori! 💖

Ms. Sandler, I truly respect you as someone who knows talent. I am a huge fan of Morissette Amon as are you, I'm sure. I don't always jump at listening to covers of songs (by her) that I'm not very familiar with...but I eventually do listen and I am always, ALWAYS glad I did and do. One of her latest covers is Someone Like You (this is NOT an Adele cover but a song from Jekyll & Hyde) and I am VIRTUALLY BEGGING you to do a reaction to this!! I'd never heard it until a couple of days ago and, since, I look on YT constantly to see if there are more reactions to this song than the 3 or 4 that I've already watched. I always wonder if reactors will be as blown away as I. I've now watched this cover at least 30 times and each and every time I'm still getting "goose bumps"!! So, here goes....please please please please give this beautiful song sung by beautiful Morissette a listen??? I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, in advance!!

Morissette shook me and I can’t take my eyes off of her. They’re all good and interpreted the song well. But, I’m more connected to Morissette. The pregnant woman is a pro, and it’s the show itself. Morissette is younger but she delivered it with her killing belts, giving justice to the song at a very young age. Good comparison and you are so truthful as a reactor. Good job! I think you definitely have to do a part 2 of this at some point. That channel Shoshannas came from has so many more! Kat Mcphee, Alison Luft, Jordin Sparks. There are literally no two versions of this song that I've ever come across that are alike. Sara Barielles song writing tho is off the charts. Before I knew anything at all about "Waitress" I knew this song. Sara says it's in fans hands now ,because it has it's own life. There are even male artists out there making you believe! (and it's a song about a Woman in an abusive relationship who is pregnant let that sink in). There's some crossover here. Morissette did a talk though of her performances in this set, she said she was very inspired by Shoshannas version. You can see it here! This show closed on Broadway in January. I wonder, considering recent, events if it will be revived sooner than later! Question Jessie Mueller in her delivery, keeps a Southern Accent throughout, as it's set in the South . This was clearly an artistic choice. How difficult is it to maintain an accent like that not natural to you while singing?
@rachelsandlermusic

Singing in an accent is definitely a part of musical theatre training! She does it beautifully.

Actually, using the Tony’s performance is unfair to Sara and Jessie, just coz ShoBean and Morissette has the entire performance. If this is just about the performance (and not like the one in the Tony’s where Jessie has to be in character), OP could’ve used, say, the one Broadwaycom uploaded in their channel. She was still in character, but it was a rehearsal. With Sara, she literally has a number of SUTBM performances, like the one JustJared uploaded from 5 years ago, or the one from In conversation, or the one from Graham Norton. Any of those were all amazing. But if there’s a part 2, Jeremy Jordan’s version should definitely be included. Now THAT’S a cover. kzbin.info/www/bejne/enWnonyufNBspsk

I love Shoshana Bean bc she makes a song hers without losing the essence of the character she is portraying. Even when she performs off Broadway, she tells the story of an un-named character through vocals and bodily performance. Sometimes performers lose the story to the voice. Sara grew up in my neck of the woods, so I wasn't surprised when I saw a cd display at a local drugstore in the curio and decoration portion. I kind of off-handedly said to the lady at the register, "she any good" ? It just happened that the lady was Sara's Mom, she said, " I'm a little biased, but yes, she's my daughter". I bought two one for me and the other for a friend that likes music too. I went to my car and as I was pulling out of the parking lot I started the cd. The first song was 'Gravity' I think, I heard one line and went around the block pulled back into the parking lot and went back into the store. Sara's Mom was still by the register and looked surprised to see me again so soon. I walked up and said, " If she does not make it BIG and I mean BIG, there is something very wrong with the music industry. Because, she is not just good, she is a star, maybe even a super-star. I don't know how these things come to me but when they do I have to do what 'tha' thing' tells me to do. I've not been wrong when I get a signal like this. I needed to tell you so that you knew." I left and have never even seen her again as her store is not somewhere I go often. That was in 2007-8 I think. I think I have been proven correct. She is an amazing talent and I'm glad I was right.

All I can say is that if you don't get that same "vibe" from Morissette Amon then you are not "that" good at getting that "signal". She's already better than Sara.

@@gregd6706 apparently you haven't read anything I've written about Morissette. She is with out reservation the best female vocalist on the planet. Only Dimash keeps me from her being the best regardless of gender. All I was doing was giving a personal anecdote about my connection to Sara and her success, plus Morissette may have sung it better than everyone else, but Sara wrote it. That's all.

@@davidcochran6291 Hey man whoa whoa whoa.......I think that you have taken my comment the wrong way my friend! No I have not read your previous comments about Morissette at all. I truly was not meaning to criticize your opinion in ANY way. I guess I was just surprised that you didn't mention getting that vibe from Mori at all in your comment. My Bad! Also I was not trying in any way to disrespect Sara! She is CLEARLY amazing! I can see how I came off the "wrong way" but I certainly did not intend to! Be well and be safe!

@@gregd6706 I also have been misunderstood because I wasn't even close to upset with you I knew as I read your remark that I had, once again, wandered off topic. As a life-long ADHD plagued guy I sometimes, no all the time am distracted by the next "shiny" thing that passes through my brain. I drove everybody crazy. So I am not or ever was upset with you. It is sometimes hard to convey tone of voice with just text as your medium. So no harm here. Thanks for getting back though maybe I'll do better the next time.

I'm a fan of mussic and Mori who did a great cover anew at home. And I love as well the intensity of Jessie and the expressiveness of sara. Each have their admirable and unique voice textures and conveying their stories...

Soshana's delivery got me so emotional. Interpretation and delivery wise she's my favorite in all these performances. I love all the choices she made to portray the feelings in her interpretation. But ofc they are all amazing.

I’m Filipino but for me i’ll give this to SHOSHANA BEAN all the way. She sang the song perfectly. And the emotion she put in, I almost choke, I felt very emotional. The commitment she put was spectacular. Mori is a superstar and her vocal qualities are limitless. But this song is too broadway for her. She still sounded pop. And this is still, a broadway song. So yeah. Only my opinion. :)

I would agree, they were close, but while Morissette might be the better technical singer, I believe Shoshana's performance on this song was better.

Morrisette is wonderful here. What a talent. I would bet money that she's watched/listened to Shoshanna Bean's version many times - recorded a year before hers. Pretty much sang it phrase for phrase - too close to be coincidence. It's a compliment to the artistry of Shoshanna Bean that she would choose to do so, and not really surprising, as young artists (even amazing ones) often assimilate some parts of a more mature artist they admire before they really and truly originate. I'd bet Morisette's a Shoshanna fan. (And I'd bet vice-versa, too.) Nobody better to assimilate than Shoshanna, and as Morrisette grows, how much more otherworldly an artist she will be.
