Bohemian Rhapsody is so beautifully mature and original, but I could give you 20 or 30 more Angelina songs that will also stun you. And what’s most amazing about Angelina is that her amazing arrangements always pay tribute to the original, but you get 100% Angelina. And she covers six or seven genres as beautifully as you heard in today’s jazzy-bluesy style. Simply put, she is easily the best singer I’ve ever heard-and I’ve been a music fan since the 1950’s. Yes, watch her at 7 years old in her public debut on Norway’s Got Talent channeling Billie Holiday. Or listen to her recent cover of Adele’s Easy on Me or last month’s My Funny Valentine. This is what happens when a prodigy becomes a genius. Having done the arrangement, she then perfectly performs the song for an audience of millions. So, the obvious question is this: Why would she take on arguably the most iconic song in rock history? I think for Angelina, the answer was rather simple. Angelina created a truly different song based on the original. As you noted, this song had a totally different vibe. A bit like a movie that's based on a book - except in Angelina's case, the movie is just as good in its own way. BTW, that was such a fresh and insightful reaction and thank you for sharing.

The magical thing about Angelina is the fact that we have been privileged to watch her development from a raw 6 year old talented singer into what she is today. And the anticipation of what she will become in ten more years. Each segment of her development is special in its own way from the Norways Got Talent performances into her 9-11 year old period where she performed so much and traveled to so many places. It is so remarkable to watch the 10 year old Angelina command a stage presence with so much going on around her. Some of my very favorite videos though are the ones during the summer when she was 12 and lived in LA. Her manager hired a young man named Ivan Mendez to meet with her once a week and record music. They would all eat together and Angelina and Ivan would go off and talk about what she wanted to sing. He would listen to the song and figure out how to play it on his guitar. They would run through it a couple of times then set up the camera and record. In almost all of the performances she is reading the lyrics as she sings. These recordings are just so real. Both of them occasionally slip up a little in a song but they just keep going. Ivan is especially fun to watch because he is truly amazed by Angies singing and the emotions she puts into it. He cannot hide his emotions and it shows on his face. I will include a link to one of my favorites they do, but all of them are worth watching. From Iowa, USA; OK, WOW ❗🤗🌹 1. An important thing to remember about AJ is that she refused to sign for a record deal through AGT and they relented and invited her to sing anyway. 2. AJ is currently signed with Republic Records. 3. AJ began singing at 18 months. Her grandmother was a jazz/blues fan and played that genre of music for AJ. She fell in love with it very early on and has even arranged most if not all that she sings from age 8. What an incredible talent. 4. Currently in 2022 she is in her mid-teenage years, stands 6 foot tall and still performs barefoot. The backstory of her encounter with the homeless girl she met while she traveled with her family through Iran at age 6 includes the weather damaged bare feet of the child she gave her own shoes to. 5. The reason she performs barefoot is to bring awareness to her public of the children worldwide who can't afford shoes of their own. Yes, that was a really good reaction, you picked out all the significant factors that made this performance magical. Angelina, at just 13, is a seasoned performer who sets her own style. Influences, yes, quite a few. In the early days mainly Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Bassey. Later Frank Sinatra, Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Elvis, Adel and others. She has a way of picking up styles and techniques, then arranging things to give a unique style of her own. Her musicality, phrasing and vibrato bring something new. Today Angelina is 16 years old, and after the hiatus of the global pandemic, is about to pick up the pace. Oh yes, the bare feet and the colourful outfit - all part of her history. Apart from being a musical prodigy, at the age of 9 she published her book, based on a real event when she was 6 years old (from her diary). Her grandma painted the illustrations for the book, that is the fabric that made her outfit. The story is about why she performs on stage bare foot. A vocal coach recently commented that she has an amazing talent, but beyond that there is a pertinent magic about her. The short story is that she met a homeless orphan about her age, when she was six. After a lengthy conversation with the girl, Angelina took the shoes she was wearing and gave them to the girl. The girl said she would pray for Angelina every day and that Angelina must never forget her. Angelina does all of her public performances barefoot as a reminder of that girl and the fact that there are people who need help. The longer version of the story is in the book that she wrote and was published when she was nine, making her Norway's youngest published author. Angelina started singing at one and a half years old and was doing professional level performances by the time she was six. You haven't heard anything yet. She is the best. I listen to Angelina all the time and never tire of her. There are many stories about her that even make her more interesting. A few examples are: english is her 3rd language, she plays muliple musical instruments, she has input and final say on all arrangments, she is the youngest published author in Norway's history, the outfit she is wearing was sewn by her and her grandma (the pattern by her grandma , a famous Iranian artist), she can sing in many different vocal timbre to match the music style of the song. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 7/8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. Yes, jazz is her first love and she can impart those influences effectively in many areas. Angelina says she is never nervous singing as it is like breathing for her. Listen to more of her often exposed vocals and you'll agree. She isn't one to show off but adds what the song calls for. If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. And as always for anyone new to Angelina, here is a little bio so that you can learn a little more about her background and her kind and caring soul....... *Angelina Jordan* - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 16 - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos. - *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help. Angelina grew up singing; there's video on the Internet showing her singing back a line from, I believe, Whitney Houston at age 1.5. Her childhood musical heroes were Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Screamin' Jay Hawkins. While traveling through the Middle East with her grandmother, Angelina met a shoeless poor girl. They talked about their dreams, and Angelina took the shoes off her feet to give to the girl and vowed to always perform barefoot until all the children of the world have shoes. When she performed Bohemian Rhapsody on her Christmas Show on the 23rd of 21 it was unbelievable, the power, the control, the perfect pitch. The reaction on the face of Shelly Berg, the 3-time Grammy winner piano player, was priceless and it was evident he was astonished by her talent. Mr. Berg stated afterward that in all his years he had never encountered a talent like AJ.

Just a couple of notes about the Barefoot Angel of Oslo in case nobody else mentions them. She is a jazz singer, her background is in jazz. Her Grandmother played it all the time (still does) and there is a surprising jazz scene in Oslo. This was recorded in Oct 2019, but broadcast in Jan 2020. Her birthday is in Jan, so she is now 16. She was already a pretty big deal in Scandinavia and northern Europe, that's why this show wanted her to be on it. The judges were expecting the "Queen of Jazz" and she knew that, so she crossed them up with this highly technical piece of singing. Look at the judges faces when she starts, they're surprised (and Heidi's in love) In the audience, the stunning blonde with the little girl is Angelina's mom and little sister Juliette, with grandmother and uncle Mike alongside. When little Angie was 3 the family lived for close to a year in LA. At that age children soak up languages like a sponge, so that's why her English is so good (and Norwegian and Persian from her Iranian grandmother and her father is Swedish and her Grandfather was Japanese and she has sung in Japanese in Japan and stepped on a sticky glue mouse trap as she was headed barefoot to the stage in NY when she was ten and got stuck and, ... Due to the international nature of her family, Angelina went to an English speaking school while growing up in Norway. She now speaks Norwegian, English, Japanese, German, and Persian (Iranian). Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, was a child prodigy in poetry and art. Mery designed Angelina's ensemble. She illustrated Angelina's book (see Rusty's comments below) and both she and Angelina illustrated the Lyrics version of Angelina's first release under Republic Records (14 y/o), "Million Miles" after the passing of her grandfather. There's also an official music video and a black and white official studio performance on her channel. The family now lives in Los Angeles, CA.

When Angelina said she waited 10 years to sing for Simon, that was not hyperbole. She is a true prodigy who virtually came out of the womb singing. As early as age five she told her mother that she wanted to sing on that "Simon show." She has a clear understanding of how capable she is, and she never sings with less than complete confidence. In her audition there, she sang 'Gloomy Sunday,' where she virtually channeled the spirit of Billie Holiday. Check that one out. ... No accent? Yes she had spent some time in the United States. But, English is her third language, after Norwegian and Farsi. Her grandmother is Iranian and the grandmother's husband is Japanese. So, Angelina also speaks some Japanese. She did a performance of a tradition piece in Japan and wowed the audience with her virtually indigenous Japanese accent. Angelina is a genius. I would be surprised if her IQ was anything less than 140. ... Many people will tell you the shoes story and how an age 9 Angelina became the youngest book author in Norway. ... You point out her tone. I find her tone and interpretation really sets her apart as a singer. Of course her timing, intonation, and technique is also impeccable. Don't be in a hurry to place Angelina in a "box" based on any single performance. She has done Whitney covers and a raft of other singers. Very fine analysis of this performance. Isn't it remarkable when an original artist does a cover and the cover becomes a new original. This is the amazing alchemy Angelina's voice and presence has. The shoes have a far more interesting history Well worth looking up. Her grandmother is art protege .She has an international name. She is a tremendous influence in Angelina's life. She introduced her to jazz at a very early age. They often say genius skips a generation. All the earmarks tend to lead to the conclusion that we are dealing with a fully fledged original. She is a real artist with a finely tuned instrument, but her ability to emote authentically & her musicality is amazing where she can take a classic, old song & totally re-interpret it into a different song that is new & beautiful. This song is a prime example, but she has done the same thing with Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, or the Moma's & the Papas, California Dreamin' or the Animals House of the Rising Sun & on & on. She is so gifted with her ability to arrange songs, that if she couldn't sing a note herself, she would still be sought after by top-tier vocalists to help them with their arrangements.
