Hi Lauren, (this was on 25 Sept 2021 - next show is 2 Oct 2021) (Elvis Presley cover) This was the first of 9 shows. Each contestant(9) gets to sing 1 song of 9 different 'genres/styles'. In this first show Diana had to do a song from the Grammy Awards, next show someone else will have to do the Grammy. The tenth person in the middle of the top row is a different guest each show. The FULL video link below has 11 segments, the first is an intro to the show, the 9 that follow are all of the contestants performing, the second last segment is Diana singing, and the last segment is the voting session. No contestant can vote for themselves. The scoring points are from 2 to 9 and each point can only be given once in every show. (NO Judges, voting done by contestants) The contestants are as follows: 7 from the "Mask" show and 1 from the "Superstar"(Alica Mon) show, also 1 from the "You Are Super"(Diana) show. Worldwide fame most likely because no other female human currently on the planet can do it. It's almost like she's using a falsetto but going in the bass direction. Much like you can tell when someone is using falsetto because their tone changes, you can tell when she's using that low effect by the change in tone.

I'm Russian and Native American. I went through a similar situation as Diana but I ran away at 12 and raised myself and became a Physicist in advanced Electronics. Being forced to grow up faster makes you more serious and gives you drive, which Diana Koo' Nova for pronunciation as Igor say's. She has been through alot her voice coach was a Shaymin that's tribal in Russia becausr she couldn't speak from her mother's abuses, her song at the river was a plea to her mother for forgiveness from what ever did to make her angry and acceptance for her and her boyfriend. She has learned how to compress her tongue back in her throat to relax her vocal cords for the tones she does and she's really good at it. All she needs now is to win AGT champions. Anyway it's callef yawning and I truly think she could win AGT champions.

I am so very surprised that you explained it about putting weight on the back of the tongue to go into the deeper register of the larynx not many reactions have explained that but I myself on a few things that I've sung just for my own entertainment sing like that because I have trouble with the higher notes because I crack a lot so I tried to keep in the lower registers but not even really that deep because if you start low you can always go higher and even use accents on the higher notes it's liven up the piece. I may sound like I know what I'm talking about but that's just the way I sing and I used to do it a lot with the radio and karaoke also with guitar hero as I couldn't play any of the instruments and am disabled so the only thing that I can do is sing. But you're absolutely right and she has mastered that and chest voice she has such an awesome resonance so breathy and very practiced she has a history of yodeling as well. Her normal speaking voice is much higher. But I urge you to go listen to Human, Dernier Danse, Rechenka

Поверь есть педагоги не знающие о многих техниках, когда сомтришь реакции на Диану от педагогов сразу понимаешь о смотярщем если сразу слышать Иодыль технику в голосе, тогда понимаешь, что человек что то понимает, но такие люди сразу говорят, что это реально тяжело тем более так глубоко и низко, единственное, что это британка угадала, что Диана либо Контральто или близка к нему, но ей всего 16ть еще, что будет дальше увидим надеюсь там еще шире диапазон станет после ломки

Ding, ding, ding....congratulations, Lauren! You're the first, out of 6 or 7 other vocal coaches, to identify how she's achieving her vocal timbre effect--"tongue clench", lowered soft palate for nasal outflow. She's basically doing a female Kermit the Frog, but musically, like Gaga and (more pronounced, in my opinion) Cher, before her. It'd be interesting to find out if either of those two women influenced her adopting the "swallowed" timbre. But, imagine--this teenager nailing a style/timbre choice, all on her own (I can't conceive of any Russian vocal coach teaching this!), that she must have known would drive Russian audiences nuts! Now, watch her performance of the Russian folk song "River" ("Rechenka"). This little gal has mastered the yodel to a head shaking mastery!

I thought she also has a bit of Shakira in her sound in addition to those you mentioned. Does she also use the same technique for effect? I'm pretty good with identifying sounds, but I don't have the technical knowledge to name it

@@Alex-gn6ii Yes, it's an effect and mimics Shakira, who also tends to tuck her tongue down into the back of her throat, to add the same "e-r-r-r-r" color to her voice--as I said above, it's called the "tongue clench". You can do it, too--pull your tongue down into your throat, then try to talk or sing up through your nose. You'll probably notice you sound a little like Kermit the Frog. The voice actor who does that puppet's vocals uses the same tongue swallowing technique and tries to release the sounds up through the nose. Hope this helps you understand what this talented youngster is doing. (I bet the first time her Russian vocal coach heard her sing a tongue-clenched phrase, she fell off her piano bench!)

Lowest she sings here is F3, so Diana stays in the alto range. Not contralto. Also apparently they call her technique a "Yawn"? Check out her Yodel one. That one shows her "normal" voice the most.
