So Oli Sykes ruptured his right vocal fold in early 2019, and possibly had some undiagnosed vocal damage prior to that (shortly after the suicide seasons album). He uses fry screams which if you're dehydrated or anything can cause alot of friction and lead to damage very easily. I'm the low screamer for a band called Lost in the Mutiny (my biggest vocal parts are in the song "no regrets") however I use false chords. I cannot speak to Oli's capabilities but I know he has pushed his limits in the past, which when screaming can be very bad.
@masterleon402 жыл бұрын
False cord and fry are not useful terms anymore.
@MoonBounce892 жыл бұрын
@@masterleon40 thats not true at all. What are you talking about? Vocal fry is 100% a technique. False cord is something commonly used in death metal.
@masterleon402 жыл бұрын
@@MoonBounce89 vocal fry is a register. The thing about the fry/fc duality is that there are so many ways to do a scream, that you can perform a fc sound using fry driven distortion, and the same is true the other way around.

oli did actually bust his vocal cords a few years ago, his music was so much rougher bk then, and since then he's had vocal lessons and he sounds amazing. you should react to a few of their songs from the that's the spirit us Album, or amo. Sempiternal or survival horror shuns, it would be super funny to see your reaction to their really early stuff too, so much more raw and risky..or the song with Sigrid he did called" bad life". his voice is so versatile. you being all Goofy laughing at your bad habits how, without giving a shit how goofy it was made me smile. it so that shit alot. but please react to more BMTH. Oli's an interesting one - he had to take a break because he ruptured a vocal chord in 2019, and I'm not sure if it was coincidental or deliberate that their music subsequently had less screams in it as it used to be wall to wall screaming, so I do hope his new technique is a lot healthier (if it was technique that did it)
@pacificdrumma2 жыл бұрын
You would have a blast with Ice Nine Kills. Almost everyone in the band sings/screams, so their layering is insane. Lead singer Spencer Charnas has incredible range, control, and power. They are as theatrical as they are brutal. For your introduction to the band, I’d suggest three songs: “Tess-Timony”, a theatrical ballad; “Welcome to Horrorwood”, a general display of what the band sounds like; and “Thank God It’s Friday” which goes pretty hard. I think you’d have a lot of material to cover and would enjoy the band as a casual listener too.

You asked for comments. I've been hearing Ed Sheeran's pop songs in the car for 10 years. His voice has changed from high and sweet to more standard range. I think Bad Habits and Shivers are the right showcase for him, sort of back to high and poppy. The one thing I would say to Ed is that any time he throttles back and goes back to soft and high, he's in his wheelhouse and sounds beautiful. He's very expressive in that place.
