Yep. Gary according to the Philippino's is Mr Pure Energy. And one can see why. To me he is Katrina Velarde's (along with a host of others) mentor. A good few years back, Gary took Katrina along with another powerhouse Pinay girl Jonah Viray on his US tour as back up singers. He and a still very young Katrina did this song on stage together, where they both did scatting together. It was totally amazing. Incredible to say the least

Just to add a little info, Gary Valenciano as you may notice has a Latin name, he has Filipino descent, and was raised in Puerto Rico before settling for good in the Philippines. That is why it is so easy for him to perform Spanish and English songs combined.

This performance is so fun to watch! Not only vocal mastery, but also humor. Few can cover Al Jarreau's "Spain," but to do those vocals for 7 minutes and still have the mental bandwidth to add humor takes the skill, experience, and energy that Gary V. has in spades! Have you heard Al Jarreau's "Take Five" yet? Storytelling at its finest, with his own sense of humor and vocal mastery. The performance from 1976 is mind-blowing and on KZbin. Well worth a reaction. Thank you for analysing Gary V singing this insanely difficult song. I'm a trumpet player and have never mastered this Chick Corea chart. Your appreciation of the artistry and sheer stamina needed for this performance is a joy to watch. I feel both exhausted and privileged after listening. Did you recognise introductory music? As in the instrumental version it is the theme from Concierto de Aranjuez guitar concerto by Joaquín Rodrigo. Such a beautiful piece of music.

He is known as “Mr Pure Energy” for a reason. His vocal agility is one of the things that Katrina Velarde, whom he took as his prodigy, has adapted to her style of singing. He is regarded also as a living legend artist in the Philippines that younger Filipino artists look up to. If you want to see another vocal agility, then check KZ Tandingan and Jaya perform “Feeling Good”. I guarantee you will feel really good watching that performance.

Truly gifted with music. He dances well, he is a composer, lyricist, and arranger, he plays piano, percussion, and of course a great singer. That's why we call him Mr. Pure Energy here in the Philippines. He had heart surgery way back. I dunno if it's a bypass operation. Not sure. His kids are also gifted with music. His eldest son Paolo is a musical director. Gab is a dancer, actor, musician, host, percussionist, drummer, choreographer, director, and commercial model. I loved Al jarreau the first time I heard him on metal cassette tape high fidelity omg lol…my buddy in the late 70’s was into so many genres like me y had shared this song …chick Correa was not heard of but discovered his keyboard jazz mastery in 2000 stout that era…y bought his high end DTS encoded cd(not a reg priced…$25 excluding tax)that you can only on DTScapable AVR y I got 5.1 Denon y Large Bose floor standing 600 plus series kind satellite etc y infinity surround 2 pairs y a dedicated subwoofer …imagine that theater like vibes playing this Spain epic piec by Chick y Al y Gary(analog but I use iPhone pro Bluetooth earphones (3D )y or BoseQuiet Comfort III( now dated lol)
