I was such a major Amy fan as a teen, I had her albums, her DVD, I watched every interview I could find, consumed every live performance on KZbin, I adored her. I can still remember my mother waking me up one summer day to tell me she had passed. We never got to see the growth in her craft, the development of her lyricism. To this day, I can't enjoy her music because her whole life was cut so brutally short. She was an icon and sorely missed.

Seems to be a common issue with many artists. seemingly on the surface you have a beautiful young woman with an amazing voice. How is it possible that she couldn't feel loved. Unfortunately when someone can't find the love they need, want or lack then this can cause self-hate, low self-esteem & may lead to making the wrong decisions for ones life! Within all humans there is an empty space inside us, it's where our soul lies, we try to fill that empty place up with 'over working', 'drugs &/or alcohol abuse', compulsive lying, comfort eating, gambling, living & telling lies & being uinvolved in a multitude of other risky behaviour etc! That space I'm referring to is called our "God Space"! Recognzsing what that is can help one to start an enriching personal relationship with their creator, one that can grow more as we learn more about ourselves!!

The performance she gave at the Ireland church, as Andy mentions at around 3:00, is probably the one featured in a documentary called The Day She Came to Dingle. That concert actually took place in 2006, way before her passing (in 2011). This Tony Bennett duet, though, was recorded exactly 3 months before she passed. Such a great video and analysis, thank you for that!

Amy did that intimate gig in the church about 5 years before her passing. What a great one it is though. Stripped and raw. And we will never again hear someone sing the line "What kind of fuckery is this?" in a church. Only Amy. She was finally getting back onto the right track. She was healthier than she had been in a very long time, put on some weight, was totally in the moment and alert, and just one final night of relapse taken too far was it for her. She is such an important figure in my life and I have been a fan for around 15 years. I miss her dearly. The things she could have continued to do. Her voice was truly developing into something else. Seasoned.

She was in heaven here. Singing with her fathers idol. She always sang a song with such intensity and emotion and never the same. She really is the Billie Holiday of my generation. Her vocal artistry is really unmatched. Please do Etta James. She was another great vocal artist that even though her drug addiction never sang a bad song, unlike Amy whose voice was literally damaged by drug abuse. Tears 😢
