A word of advice for all 20 something just entering the workforce after college: always have an out. You should continue job hunting periodically through your career so you can have in mind the kinds of skills employers are looking for and, if possible, trying to get them in your present career. But, if your job is so awful that it's adversely impacting your mental health, you should be looking for an exit as often as you can manage. Life is too short to put up with abuse and just because someone is paying you to work for them doesn't mean they can treat you like shit. Stand up for yourself because absolutely nobody else will.

Absolutely! Happiness and mental health should always come FIRST. I’m 24, been stuck in Food Service for a year and a half. BUT I’m leaving in a week thankfully! The feeling of leaving that place and knowing I’ll never have to do it again, I can’t even describe how amazing it’ll feel. Someone once told me that they think everyone should do Food Service once in their life. I disagree. Not every person. I can understand it seeming fun for high schoolers, but for some like me and others who are done with college, uh NO. It is a nightmare. Food Service is not what you want to be doing after college. If anything, it should be the last option. Unless, you’re someone that really has a passion for Hospitality, then great!

Let me ask you a real quick question here: how much time would you say you spend each week dealing with these phone calls to absentees?
@alvexok5523
@alvexok5523 Жыл бұрын
I think that ordinarily, it would have alot to do with how much of an asset the employee is to the manager. If he believes that alot of good work would be accomplished if the employee was there, then him not being there getting all that good work done would cause the manager to spend a fairly good deal of time leaving him numerous messages trying to get him in. But if the employee's amount of attributes to the workload is tiny, then I could not see him leaving 16 messages sweating that much over his absence. But in this case with Peter, Lumburg doesn't really consider him such as asset to the company, he disagreed with the Bobs over Peter being management material, so in this case, Lumburg just likes to unnecessarily get on people's cases over matters that don't call for it. Just like how Lumburg got so much on Milton's case about moving his desk so many times, there's just no need for that, Lumburg just really likes pestering employees.

It's more that he was inconvenienced that he didn't have him around to participate in the crunch. And he himself had nothing better to do but constantly call him. The only reason Peter had to come in at all is because they just fired a lot of people they really shouldn't have fired and now have to overwork the remaining employees This is kind of a running theme in the movie - Lumberg is a terrible boss who expects everyone below him work harder while doing very little himself. Peter says it himself - he has eight different bosses, all of whom talk to him about the same things. Lumberg is just one. This is why after hearing his complaints, the Bobs begin putting Lumberg on the firing line instead. It's a problem with many workspaces - you end up with a bloated middle management and a team of workers who work their asses off but have no hope for advancement because all the slots above them are already filled. So someone comes in, fires all the least-motivated workers, then fires all the redundant middle managers, and looks like a genius in the process. Then in a few years things more people get hired, new people get promoted, and the stagnation sets in once again. Peter managed to correctly identify the problem and that's why the Bobs wanted to promote him. Which seemed nice until he realized his friends were getting fired too and that he was just ingraining himself deeper into a system that was already crushing his soul.

@@nocturnalrecluse1216 Ususally bosses never contact spouses or anyone of that matter to see where their employee is. But yes, She was sleeping with Bill's brother if i recall, so obviously Bill could just contact her like nothing

Peter had told his girlfriend earlier in the week that he had to go into work for the upcoming weekend as per Lumburgh. She possibly could have first called his work that day to talk to him for some reason, the staff at Peters work told her he wasn’t there, or she could have dialed his phone number extension directly to no avail, then called his home phone since cell phones weren’t mainstream back then.

love how his girlfriend called him at home at 3pm and then was shocked he picked up like if you knew he was supposed to be at work why'd you call him at home

Because she had tried to call him at work and either he did not answer or his coworkers told her that he was not there.

What if Peter Gibbons unplugged the telephone and answering the machine while he is sleeping in long, and missed a weekend of work?
@louisbouchard6869
@louisbouchard6869 5 ай бұрын
He did miss a weekend of work. In fact, he went in Monday only to get a phone number and that was when he had his meeting with the Bobs that he chose to attend, giving them the low down on how the company really operated because he did not care at that point and figured he would be laid off anyways (especially after telling them he does only 15 minutes of actual work).

She probably called his workplace to yell at him there for what happened after the hypnotist died and either he did not answer or his coworkers told her that he was not at work.

He can't. The only way is for the hypnotist to snap his fingers and the hypnotist is dead. That is why after the fire, he took a simple construction laborers job rather than look for another tech job.

For some women (especially Karen's), that is all it takes. Some men are like that. My former step-father was one of those types of people.
