Holmes wasn't even that bad. There was an infield hit, a bloop single, another infield hit where Gleyber threw it away to advanced the runners. There was the sac fly and then the seeing eye hit that brought in the go-ahead run. He did walk two, which didn't help, but barely a well-hit ball and a ton of tough luck.

Tough loss but not overly concerning. If Holmes gets one of those outs, early the picture would be different. A pitcher has only so many pitches per outing. Bottom of the 9th vs. Munoz was pathetic. Volpe was overmatched, Soto clutch, Judge caught looking. If DJ plays 3rd, Oswaldo should platoon with Gleyber.

The bounce back tonight and tomorrow is important. If they win the next 2 games this will look like small potatoes. But makes you wonder, I would like to try DJ at second base not 3rd. But they’re on a role though. Go Yanks!

Despite his 0.00 ERA Holmes has been giving up frozen ropes most of the season. They were just finding gloves, and when they didn't there were no walks on base to build a serious rally around. Last night was the awful Holmes - both walks and hits.

As a Mariners fan our best win of the season is likely another teams worst loss of the season. We accomplished our goal of not getting swept in 4 games in the Bronx so another win in this series would just be gravy

i’m not in the gleyber defending business but he has been hitting better. hoping he can get up to 270+ in the next month. think the lackadaisical base running and occasional boneheaded plays are just what you get with him. he sort of seems like the kid who ate paste in school. just with insane talent

Absolutely understand the Yanks will not win every game.My problem with last night is Weaver should have stayed in.He threw what,6 pitches in the eigth,so why not leave him for the ninth.This is on Boone.Maybe we need to sub in late innings for Torres for defence.

No you don't understand, the same mistakes that they make in the regular season will happen in the playoffs, trading Torres to Miami for the second baseman that was just traded to San Diego would have made a big difference, the error on Torres throw is what created Holmes frustration and loss of control, Torres is a menace on the bases, in the field and the pressure has him in a contract year unable to focus.

Love all the “fans” that want players traded, or DFA’d, or benched after they make an error, go into a slump, blow a save, etc.. All you “experts” wanted Judge traded 3 weeks ago, now Holmes blows his first game and you buzzards are circling. Listen Holmes didn’t have his game on last night. But he has been really good and just unlucky. Again I hate to beat the bush but something has to be done about gleyber. I know we need to pick up our teammates but Torres we need to be picking him up all the time. Smh. It certainly didn’t help with last night and his wannabe Tony Fernandez or cano. Right now unfortunately we have no real good choice but shit Torres needs to just have his mental side on the better part. I’m just pissed.

In the playoffs the games are very tight. Teams are typically not leading by 4 runs in the 9th inning. Having a pitcher that is inconsistent in the strike zone, relies on the hitters to swing outside of the zone for wild swinging strikes is a bit concerning. Worse yet, you have a closer that pitches to ground ball contact with infield hits to Gleyber Torres throwing the ball anywhere but to the first baseman (like into the dugout) you are looking for trouble. If you ask me, it’s a quick exit in the playoffs with the combination of Clay Holmes as your closer and Gleyber Torres as your second base defense.

Please trade for the Cardinals closer & move Holmes to set up! Look at Matos, Classe, you have to throw heat as a closer! Not curveball not sinkers bec too often then not under pressure you either cant locate or you throw too many pitches w no clean innings. Wettleland had a track record as a closer b4 we traded for him. Holmes im doubling down he doesnt have the goods!
