While the buzz on Geoff's low notes there are probably synthetic, I think that record-scratch droopy noise they make going down is all Layne. It's one of the weird sound effects he specializes in. EVERY a capella group that records uses post production. They use microphones too. But I have heard them do many of those effects on video'd live events. I have heard beatboxers get close to that subwoofer noise simply by going a low, possibly sub harmonic note, cupping their mic up close to their mouth.

I believe it was filned at Layne's Patatycake Productions place. It's featuring J.None because he left to join the navy recently but is currently home on leave. Yes it's elly, short for Eliezer. As Geoff is short for Geofreey. Have you seen Geoff's Monster Mash? That's a lot of fun. But a capella just means without instrumental accompaniment, and no instruments are involved, just some post production tweaking of their voices. So yes it is a capella. Their song Warriors, is an exeption as they bring in violins.

The directors had all the plans for how Luis was supposed to be and when Michael starting doing the lines and how he was moving when doing them they just decided to make Louis act like Michael. It's still a capella; Geoff's low notes are his (the "turntable" notes), but the engineer simply applied an overdrive effect to his vocal track. It's the same as adding reverb or digital delay, or compression. It uses the dry track and filters it.

Hmm, it's still acapella since no instruments are used. Production doesn't remove the acapella element. It doesn't change what they are doing, it enhances it. They also use microphones and speakers and subwoofers when they sing live. It's still acapella. All artists that release music use post production, even the live recorded stuff are part produced before release. According to Tim Foust from Home Free is part of the fun to be able to tweak it for production, while live gives three live experience. Just like every other artist. The difference is that these acapella groups sound equally amazing live a they do in production. Thanks for the reaction! 🥰🙏

Geoff’s low rumbles are very possible. A covered sub-harmonic, or lip buzzed bass, growl, there are a couple ways to achieve that and just bring the tone out thru “the mask” as many basses call it. I think someone else said pronating “Doom” I agree it’s likely layered maybe with Geoff doing a second track of a different technique for the same note to widen it sonically.

Eli is so very happily married, and from what I know, he's never taken his wedding ring off for a video in (now) 7 years. But he's not wearing it here - it's a small thing, and I doubt anyone would've mentioned "Hey, he's not married so why is Eli wearing a ring?" but I appreicate their attention to detail when it comes to costuming.

I've been listening to a Capella singing and watching your critiques of them for a while now and a question popped into my brain and now I cant let it go. It is this; When you review your singers have you ever suspected any of them for using autotune to clean up their sound? I would appreciate your views on this and the use of autotune in general. Thanks
@maeco73 жыл бұрын
Obviously I'm not Maggie (and her insight would be great), but I think it's more than fair to say that every single singer/group putting out professional videos (a capella groups included) uses some sort of tuning in post-production. Listeners expect a perfect sound, and so it's necessary. Anyone who says they don't use it is lying. That doesn't mean those singers can't sing beautifully live, but listeners will hear even the slightest imperfection where something is slightly out of tune/sync and so the tuning is necessary. As long as the original singing is actually decent, which it should be from professionals, then that tuning is really just small tweaks. I don't personally have any issue with it - I think if you want a "pure" sound without any tuning, then you need to listen to live performances (although beware even there, because with technology these days a lot of bigger groups can have their vocals tuned live. Ariana Grande, for instance, has some notorious fails where her live autotuning has been painfully obvious).
@janetdw3 жыл бұрын
@@maeco7 But I believe that post production editing is not the same as autotune. Yes, all recordings are edited and fine tuned - an interview with Layne (with Elizabeth Zharoff, I think) showed the number of tracks he was working on with Moana. (Lots!) But that is not the same as putting it on automatic. If nobody did post production, mixers would be out of work.

@@maggiereneemusic I've been listening to you (and a few others) to try and gain some insight into the mechanics of voice. I learn something most times. I find it interesting how a vocalist manipulates voice and an a Capella group can, as a group, do just what a lone vocalist can do but with harmony, and can blend the different notes, individual ranges and so on into a pleasing whole. Also your insights send me to google to research this.

@@maggiereneemusic I do, thank you. At some point their video turned into a still picture because of copyright reasons, had not seen that happening earlier. But P is sooo sweet, i personally favour Voiceplay, Bass Gang and Home Free more because of their humour and character playing
