This is their most traditionally beautiful Christmas song. They did a great version of O Little Town of Bethlehem (Geoff doing two parts) and a fantastic, completely non-traditional arrangement of The First Noel. Tony was still in the group for that one. I know your time is limited, but please, this year or next, The First Noel.

It has to be said, we do miss the old lineup. But time moves on and the current lineup is great too. Eli used to be known as the master of riffs and runs, (as in Tennessee Whisky) but he doesn't do it so much lately. Earl does go incredibly high, (what Geoff refers to as Earl's World, where he, Geoff never goes) but his lower voice is just beautiful too.

I will also highly recommend that you react to their version of ‘The First Noel’. It’s completely non-traditional and right up your alley! And you’ll get more of sweet-voice, riffing Eli. Before Earl left, Eli didn’t have to do as much high tenor work and didn’t really lean into his rock voice, but he has always been the king of riffs!

Thank you Peter for another reaction to Voice Play. Did you get a chance to check out Voice Plays performances in Atlantic City with the band Chicago ? Layne was totally awesome as always. In one particular song they did Cesar does some super high note singing ( he can sing higher than Eli ). Voice Play are so underrated when it comes to them singing live. They are awesome.

Just FYI - this would not be on VoicePlay's actual youTube Channel. Check HuldraDraco's for it. I would not attempt a reaction to it, as I'm pretty sure Chicago wouldn't want it passed around a lot yet. They have a stream coming up of it in mid-Dec (I think the 16th?) and if so, that would be better than the audience cell phones version.

I am SO STOKED that you have a PTX week coming up!! I rewatch your PTX reactions every few months and it will be great to have some more to add to the rotation. You should listen to their most recent version of O Holy Night, it is sublime. There is no video so probably not ideal for an official reaction, but WOW is it good: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKLVn52Fa5mhrJI

I wasn't raised with Christmas songs, so the first time I ever heard this song was in the movie "Home Alone." I immediately loved it, and years later I ended up writing many arrangements of it for brass ensemble. This version blow away anything I penned. Loved how they played around with the chords.

One comment that I've made about Geoff, especially since I've learned how to do subharmonics, is that it's often not his low notes that stop me from being able to sing his parts, it's the fact that he can get absurdly high for a bass as well.

This is my favourite religious slanted Christmas song. Am I religious slanted? I mean I don’t feel it’s a Christian song but I feel it is a terrific song that can be sung at any time. This has heightened my appreciation for it, and it has now become my favourite of all time. Thank you Peter for reviewing this song I had not heard this group before. And Rachel is simply amazing. Vocal play is amazing. Thank you for introducing me to the group.❤❤ This is my first time commenting on your page Peter I’ve been watching you for a couple of months now. I expect my sister can probably hit those high notes in her modal register (her voice is naturally quite high-pitched), but she only sings in group settings when everyone is singing, or in amateur choirs. She doesn't have a good voice for holding down an entire part on her own. It just doesn't sound good. (Whereas, my voice sounds pretty good, but I have just about one octave of range, maybe an octave and a half on a good day; and it's awkwardly positioned: when other people pick the key, I nearly always end up running into either the top or the bottom of my range.)

I always thought that “O Holy Night” was a bit of a meh Christmas song. But I love this version a lot. The only other version I really like is Cary Brothers version which is also on the deeper side (not in comparison to GC of course) maybe it’s because it’s a slightly grittier/rockier version. Great R&A! *Also I have no idea what the technique is but I love Layne (I’m assuming)’s breathy inputs.

VP of today is much more enjoyable than before. In this video the high voices are so sharp and sounds so unpleasant. The present VP harmonies and blend wonderfully with for instance Omar Cardona, J.None or Deejay Young. Earl was a competent singer but stiched out like a needle, often the same with the girls. (Why do they so often yell??)

I think it's visible that it is 6 years ago. I've only been a VoicePlay fan for a year. I found them after finding Castellucci, who I'm a big fan of. For me he is the most pleasant singer who has ever lived on this earth. So I listened to the songs backwards from newest to oldest. The development of VP and him is so great (I mean the newer VP oc). And I'm sorry to say, but I had to stop listening to the older songs when Earl was in the group. I think he is a very nice person and I heard him singing lower notes, it sounded so good. But I can't stand those squashed, pressed high notes that he had to do so often on VP. It hurts me physically, I get a headache. And his faces tells the same. I generally don't like high tones in everyday life either. I really tried because I wanted to hear everything with Castellucci singing along, but I'm slow to do that. I pray they never add a Tenor 1! The Castellucci songs, I love every single one! There is not one single sound that does not heal my soul or bring joy. Why does it sound so good when a bass singer sings higher notes and not a tenor? Can you tell, Peter? Tomi P., for example, sings such high notes that I usually hate. But I really like them from him. So for people like me, the concept of an all-bass singer group like BassGang is great! By the way, Google translates “VP” as vice presidency 😅👑 That wouldn't be bad...
