I knew you were going to love this!! They out do themselves every time! I cannot stop watching this, it is amazing!! That first B0 Geoff hits lasts for 15 seconds!! Then Eli has become the Asgardian god of rock, Layne is a beatboxing god, Cesar has become a Berserker, and J None has shown us the rap indeed belongs in acapella! Great reaction!

Fun fact about this one....J. None was an active member of the group, joined the US Naval Choir, and this was filmed while he was on leave. So when he is doing his solo shots he is away with the Navy and when he is with the group he has come home or as some interpret it as joining the group in Valhalla. The rap portion pays homage to his military service if you look at the words as he is doing that portion "end it with blood at the head of my ops, always protect to be free never fall, fight for the glory the conquer the creed"...also the studio where this was filmed, the AC broke...in Florida....in the summer....the sweat you see on them is real

I was pretty sure that you’d like this heavy hitting Viking war cry. I’m not a big fan of rap but it fits so well and the lyrics are amazing. I had to put on the closed captioning and I couldn’t read it fast enough. 😯I don’t know how they do it! In My Mother Told Me the backgrounds were different because they were coming from different lands. In this one everybody’s together except J who missed the boat😂. I love that they have J looking across the water like he is ready to return home. Among their tattoos (same templates but enhanced) are runes spelling out VoicePlay. Eli did the amazing backgrounds using Unreal Engine (used in games and film for background). It was filmed, not green screen, but at a studio with immense (Full wall!) LED screens. The original done by Miracle of Sound is well worth a listen. After all it inspired them to make a cover of it!

I love that you're one of the only reactors I've seen that picked up on the rap verse being a reference to Vikings 'flyting". most don't pick up on that the first watch around. XD

One of the differences is that the last one was done a few years ago so there have been a few changes in a few things; between group members and voice range expansions.❤😊 Personally I think all of it has just made things better, plus their creativity never stops!

This is Layne's arrangement but Eli outdid himself with this. Video - Creative Design, Direction, Unreal Engine, Virtual Production, and Editing. Costuming and Props are also Eli, Penguin Point Productions, and Pattycake Productions. They did this in heavy costumes and the air conditioning had gone out. Very Hot work and dedication to their craft.

I watched you twice. This reaction was awesome. I knew you would love it. It is like they got together in the back of a bar or somewhere and said, "We can start off with a chant, move it up to a type of hard ballad, then Elli can let loose his inner rock god, and what the heck, let's throw in some rap! We have everything else in there, why not? Hey, Geoff, the people want subharmonics? Let's give it to them! BOO-YA!"🪨😆 And yes, Cesar was better than ever and Layne never disappoints.

It was hot. And I mean that literally. The AC has broken down in the studio they were using and they were sweltering in those costumes. Make up to the rescue between takes. The runes on Cesar's face say VoicePlay. They don't miss a trick.

Yay! I knew you’d love this! Well, hey, the last one wasn’t what you’d expect either-who but Layne Stein would think to throw some dubstep into an ancient Viking song! So now we have dubstep/techno/rap/whatever he felt like tossing in-kind of a musical hunter’s stew! What’s fun is the original composer, @MiracleOfSound a/k/a Gavin Dunne, who is quite a legend in the field of gaming music, dropped a comment-he liked it! Something people don’t realize is that Viking was a profession rather than an ethnic group. Not all Scandinavians were Vikings and not all Vikings were Scandinavians. The Vikings were actually primarily traders, though they also certainly raided any place they saw things worth taking, so they were also necessarily warriors-they traveled all over the world, and people joined in with them, some voluntarily, some as captives who earned their freedom and assimilated into the society they found themselves in. True Viking music was probably a hunter’s stew as well, of music they heard along the way, music brought in by their new comrades. This is, in its own modernistic way, kind of true to life. Loved your reaction! I’m really curious now what you’ll think of @MiracleofSound and Peyton Parrish’s version.

The production on this video is better because they had more money. It's still amazing what they did when their budget was smaller. Check out Geoff's cover of The Headless Horseman. He did it in his father's (or father-in-law's) house. He grabbed some stuff just laying around and made a really fun video.

This wasn't a continuation from My Mother Told Me. That song was from the game, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. This one is from Assassin's Creed Valhalla

It IS a continuation from Voiceplay's MMTM. You can tell because the makeup on Eli, Layne, J and Geoff is the same, so they're meant to be the same characters. The actual words from My Mother Told Me are a translation of an Icelandic poem. It was not used in Skyrim, but was used in both the TV show "Vikings" AND Assassins Creed: Valhalla. Valhalla Calling, on the other hand, was written specifically for the game.

My mother told me is the steady song to row the longboat to. Valhalla calling me is the build up to battle. Going to make a band suggestion that fits several of your bands, Van Canto does Acapella metal with the exception of using a drum kit. They have a lot of covers, including Primo Victoria bt Sabaton with Joakim joining for vocals.

Every video they do is better some how than the one before. Eli used UNREAL Engine to get the backgrounds together and JNone was on another site, I believe, but they brought him in like they did for Alexa on Enemy by Imagine Dragons.

It does make me a little sad to hear people say a modern production is more Viking than an actual ancient Viking poem. Hollywood has ruined my culture. 🤣🤣 I'm mostly kidding. Seriously though, this is a fabulous arrangement. I've had it on repeat since it came out. Something you owe to yourself, though, is to hear the original arrangement from Miracle of Sound feat. Peyton Parrish. It'll have you looking for a monastery to raid.
