Thanks for another VoicePlay reaction to their latest Christmas tune. There is a reason that this reminded you of Louis Armstrong. This is the third time that Layne has arranged this Louis Armstrong cover for VoicePlay over the years. Apparently, they performed this live in their pre-pandemic touring days. One of the previous arrangements is on one of their Christmas CDs. Always good to see J. back with the guys. He does a great Louis Armstrong tribute. J. left VoicePlay for singing for the Navy in 2021 and still has more years of military service remaining. No one knows if he will rejoin VoicePlay when his time is up or reenlist and continue to return when on military leave. Layne was originally their baritone before Scott Porter left them to pursue an acting career and Layne became the beatboxer so not surprising that he can sing. Layne had a new toy to use for this one...they used a robotic arm with multiple cameras. Eli had to connect his computer with the lighting cues to the robotic arm’s computer to sync everything up. Geoff's solo Christmas release, "Carol of the Bells," also dropped Dec. 6th and is awe inspiring; it topped one million KZbin views yesterday. Glad to hear that you will be reacting to it. Judging from his album art, the Geoffquakes did some damage! LOL

I'm sure everyone has said it, but Geoff's new one, "Carol of the Bells," might be his best ever. Do it! Doesn't matter if Christmas is over. Just do it. 😂

VoicePlay was contacted by the Warframe franchise after they did Sleeping In the Cold Below to reimagine Party Of Your Lifetime for the Warframe 1999 upgrade. It’s amazing and everyone, featuring Omar, was amazing but Layne was the GOAT on this one. So. Freaking. Cool!!!

J None used to be a member of Voiceplay, but during the pandemic he was having trouble bringing in enough money to support his family. So he joined the Navy music corps. He's been featured on a ton of their videos since - it's great that he's been available. I hope that after his military time has ended he'll rejoin Voiceplay.

I didn't know that was why he joined the Navy. Good to know.

Apparently, the great scene where Wallace and Davis perform Sisters while the girls sneak out of town wasn't in the original script. Bing and Danny were messing around backstage and it was so funny the director had to write it into the movie. Their laughter in that scene was real because they were cracking each other up so much. I love this movie. I did grow up with it and despite watching it every Christmas for much of my life it is still my all-time favorite Christmas movie. Your reaction was very entertaining and reminded me of all the reasons I love it.

Layne had a beautiful singing voice. His line from the original song should have been Who’s there, who is it are ya stoppin for a visit? … he changed it a bit 😂

Watching the reactions to this song on various channels, I am surprised, as a Japanese, that Americans are rather unaware of Louis Armstrong. He's the king of jazz though. Incidentally, there is a Louis Armstrong Society in Japan that is still active

I had never heard this one either and it's so cute! Figures it'd be a Louis Armstrong tune! I was sure it was ol' Satchmo by the time J pulled out that scat! It was awesome, and that's a damn good Satchmo impression!!! They were awesome as usual! The bts for this one was fun, showed how they managed the uber quick switches and fun camera angles. Fun Fun Fun!

👍👍 thumbs up to getting their names right 😉! Belated merry Christmas. Yes J was paying homage to Louis Armstrong who did this song originally in 1953. Trust VP to go get a classic, dust it off and introducing it to a new audience... why do something contemporary 😉⚘️🕊

They used a robotic arm camera for this so the camera moved and they looked where the camera. They did this song several years ago on their album called Peppermint Winter and it’s a different vibe. Maybe because I first heard it from Harry Connick Jr, but I’ve always thought this sounded like a New Orleans sound song and this really gives me that same feeling. Did you notice that during the “running and running, he’s coming to get you” section all the guys are reaching for J just like they were all after him in Thriller. Coincidence?🤔 -- They had a lot of fun with this one. I really enjoyed the Satchmo improv that J did at the end. It’s a nice tribute to the original artist. I first heard this song from Harry Connick Jr (and shortly thereafter by the Brian Setzer Orchestra). Maybe because I first heard it from Harry Connick Jr, but I’ve always thought this sounded like a New Orleans sound song and this really gives me that same feeling. They used a robotic arm (I think with multiple cameras) that was also on a track so they just watched where the camera was and are always looking at us as they sing. Between the lyrics and the way they arranged it, it is a tad creepy. After all, it is a little strange that we are anxiously awaiting for this oddly dressed man to break into our homes one night per year. I think it’s funny that during the “running and running, he’s coming to get you” section all the guys are reaching for J just like they were all after him in Thriller.

If you heard a voice like that on Aristocats, it was based on Louis Armstrong. Disney and other animation companies frequently based characters on famous notables. It was a short cut or an homage, depending on how you look at it.

Ya’ll might want to check their Short of The Pink Panther song sometime.

The ‘Nawlins’ jazz feel is so appropriate for a Louis Armstrong cover. Also the reason it sounded to you like Fat Albert as I’m darn sure that character’s voice was based on Louis too. You might recognize it more by his nickname of Satchmo. J did an especially good impersonation during the scat, even giving us Satchmo’s teeth baring grin he got while singing.

👍👍This classic mid-century Christmas song hasn't been overdone to death, which is both good (we all get sick of yet another arrangement of "White Christmas") but also a shame that it isn't played more, in large part due to America's history with segregated radio stations. Into the 1960s, many radio stations refused to play Black musicians... Elvis had to prove to some stations that he was White just to get his records aired. So jazz Christmas songs didn't have the vast air play as White traditional musicians. That racism taints our music to this day, even Christmas songs. Louie Armstrong was a once-in-a-lifetime musician who could play trumpet like a heavenly seraph and scat like a drunk demon. RIP. Fun fact: the Aristocats song "Everybody Wants to be a Cat" was sung by the great Scatman Crothers, who also did the voice of the Autobot named Jazz in the original Transformers cartoon. To answer you, although my household didn't do Christmas (JWs, we were boring) my husband's family is making up for it. They have both Christmas and Hanukkah (Chranukkah) so it's a WHOLE FREAKING SEASON. This year, the first day of Hanukkah landed on the 25th. His parents let everyone open ONE present on Christmas Eve and one Christmas morning before breakfast. The rest get opened after everyone arrives. Traditionally, ever since he was a teen, my husband was the "Santa Claus" passing out the gifts one by one, which meant he opened his presents last. These days, he LOOKS like a Jewish Santa, so it's even better.
